CFS TENSION ROD SYSTEM PROTAHPROTAH is an innovative system of rods and accessories for use in steel construction.
PROTAH rods are mostly used as a bearing element. The system can be used for the construction of elegant bridges and pedestrian bridges, for different types of roof structures, observation towers, sports stadiums and similar buildings.
They are often used in the interior, mostly in buildings such as airports, showrooms, shopping centres and various representational spaces where high aesthetic and architectural impact are required.
PROTAH system is popular for its simplicity, modern design, impressive appearance and also for easy installation.
System PROTAH allows rectification without using tension locks.
Standard Tension Rod System PROTAH
The system offers 14 diameters of rods from 12 to 100 mm. The standard system consists of a rod, two forks, two nuts, two pins and four circlips.

TENSION ROD BARS FORKS
The fork is used to connect the rod to a plate using a pin and for rectification of the rod’s length. The fork is cast from steel CSN 422712 (DIN: GS-20Mn5). The right-hand, resp. left-hand thread is mechanically machined. Forks with a left-hand thread are marked by imprinted letter “L” on the forehead.
Tension Rod is produced from steel round bars S355NL and S460NL. There is left-hand metric thread on the one side and right-hand thread on other side.
There are milled flats on the rod for a spanner to allow rectifying of the system. Threads up to 30mm diameter are cut. Threads from 36mm diameter are rolled to obtain better fatigue resistance.

LOCKING NUTS COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM PROTAH
PINS
Locking nut ensures that the rod and the fork (resp. rod and coupler) are in the desired position while protecting the thread of the rod. Locking nuts are machined from steel 42CrMo4+QT (ČSN EN 10 083). Locking nuts as well as the forks are produced with right or left-hand thread. Locking nuts with left-hand thread are marked by imprinted letter “L” on the forehead.
The system PROTAH, in addition to the standard features also, offers additional features for better flexibility of the system.
Coupler without Lug
A coupler allows standard system lengths to be extended as well as the range of rectification of the rod. Couplers are machined from steel 42CrMo4+QT (ČSN EN 10 083). The coupler is made with right-hand thread from one side and left-hand thread from other side. Side with left-hand thread is marked by imprinted letter “L” on the forehead. Each coupler has two locking nuts to secure the rod and the coupler in the desired position.
The pins connect the fork to the plate, and are machined from steel 42CrMo4+QT (ČSN EN 10 083). The circlips are used to ensure the pin is in the fork.

LOAD CAPACITY OF THE TENSION ROD SYSTEM
ANCHOR DISC FOR CROSS BRACING
DESIGN OF THE TENSION ROD
The anchor disc allows crossing of the rods and can be an interesting aesthetic element.
In standard sizes the anchor discs are manufactured from steel S355 or S460. The number of holes and the angle between the connected rods is given by the customer’s requirements. Bespoke discs can be produced if required.
The design loads have been calculated according to the standard EN 1993-1-1 and verified using static and dynamic load tests. The whole system is calculated so that the weakest point of the system is particular in the rod, which then determines the load capacity of a whole system.
Load bearing capacity according to ČSN EN 1993-1-1
Calculation of the cross section area: A=πd2/4
Calculation of the weakened cross section area : As=(ds+dk)2.π/16
Load capacity of the rod: NR,d1 =A.fy/γM0; γM0=1,00
Load capacity of the weakened rod cross section : NR,d2 =0,9.As. fu/γMb; γMb=1,2

CONNECTING PLATES - DIMENSIONS
The dimensions specified in the table below must be complied with. Plates are not included in the scope of delivery. Material for the connecting plates: steel S355.
Forks must be correctly aligned and positioned in the same plane to ensure that the tension system is not subject to bending
To ensure the rod can be installed, one fork end of the rod must be able to swing into place. The maximum deviation of the opposing connecting plates from the vertical is 0.5°.
