The hospital tours are intended to give dancersand other members of our organization a closerlook into the childrens hospital, giving them thechance to interact with one another, some of thepediatric residents, and members of the ExecutiveBoard, said Hospital Chair Shakeia Burgin.

There will be ve tours in total this semester, eachled by pediatric residents who take participants tothe helicopter pad, the three main oors of N.C.Childrens Hospital, the PICU, the NICU, and thepediatric emergency department. Dancers can signup for upcoming hospital tours with this form.

First-year student Carly Hammerle participated inthe rst hospital tour. Her favorite part of the tourwas seeing campus from the helipad.

I also enjoyed seeing how colorful and bright theoors in the childrens hospital are, said Hammerle. Now that I know the facilities and some of the day-to-day operations over at UNC Childrens, I knowhow our fundraising and dancing will benet somany amazing children.

Ada Lopaczynski, also a rst-year student,

Members of the Executive Board and dancers on theN.C. Childrens Hospital helipad at sunset on Wednes-day, Jan. 21 during the rst of ve dancer hospitaltours this semester.

attended the rst tour as well.I liked being able to talk to the doctors and

residents working at the hospital because were onthe same team, both sides are doing what they canFTK, Lopaczynski said. Its even more reassuring toknow youre helping them do their job in addition tothe overall goal of helping the kids.

Fundraising incentives have always been aninnovative way to encourage and reward dancers for

their hard work leading up to the annual Marathon. This year, incentives will be even better than in

previous years, including Carolina Mudcats Box Seatsand Beats Headphones.

Event Donations Chair Sonya Kowalczyk saidincentives provide dancers with a reminder tocontinue fundraising. The Executive Board wanted theincentive program to be more exciting and engagingthan in past years.

This year, our incentive campaign has a moreorganized format and we are making more incentivepushes throughout the semester, said Kowalczyk.

Through the campaign, dancers can raise enoughmoney to be entered into a rae during certain weeksbefore the Marathon. All of the incentive items weredonated by sponsors.

Four Carolina Mudcats Box Seats were raed o

on Jan. 23 to any dancer who had raised at least $100On Friday, a pair of Beats Headphones will be raed

o to any dancer who has raised at least $150. Each$50 extra raised will give dancers another entry in therae.

In February, a date night package for ValentinesDay, a basketball signed by the 2013 - 2014 UNC mensbasketball team and two tickets to the Duke-UNCmens game will be raed o for dancers who haveraised at least $150.

Kowalczyk said the incentives will continue throughthe Marathon as well, with a rae includng a variety ofgift certicates, an iPad mini, and other exciting items

Experience items, such as a shower, dancing on the

stage during the rave, and special time with Kid Co-Captains will be given to dancers who fundraise abovecertain amounts, added Kowalczyk. The top tenfundraisers will also all receive delicious meals fromlocal restaurants.

Helen is a 14-month-old child who came to the hospital with a foreign body that needed to beremoved from her stomach. The foreign body turned out to be an earplug. She continued to havedigestive problems and unexpectedly needed to have an extended admission to evaluate those issues.Helens single-parent mother stayed with her. Shed had a new job for one week and had earned oneday of sick leave. After already missing six days of work, she was concerned about the missed incomeas well as job security. Assistance with the cost of food in the hospital alleviated some of the stressassociated with her daughters hospitalization.

With the 2015 UNC DanceMarathon fast-approaching, Carolina

For The Kids is busily recruitingmotivators and volunteers.According to Morale & Recruitment

Chair Jean-Luc Rivera, about 100motivators and volunteers havesigned up to help with the Marathon.

I would like to see an increase, which is why Im leaving registrationfor motivators and volunteers openfor a bit longer - maybe about amonth or so, Rivera said.

Motivators and volunteers playan integral part in the success of the

marathon. Motivators sign up towork six-hour shifts and help providemorale to the dancers, somethingRivera says is really helpful whenMorale and Recruitment membersare getting tired.

Volunteers lend a hand to theOperations Committee wheneverand wherever its needed.

These shorter shifts are appealingto those who are intimidated by

the commitment of standing for24 hours, and also oer a dierentperspective of the nal event.

Sophomore Anna Morison saidshe chose to volunteer this yearbecause she wanted to experiencethe other half of Dance Marathonthe more behind the scenes stu.

Senior Francesca Braaten decidedto be a motivator because she enjoysseeing everyones hard work cometogether at the end.

    No matter your involvement

in Carolina For The Kids, being amotivator is a manageable timeand nancial commitment that recommend to anyone who wasntup for being a dancer, she said.
