Challenge the Status Quo

I have always had a keen interest in shar-ing and spreading what I know and have had the opportunity to learn, especially with the youth, and hence this column serves that purpose for me. An article, when knowing what you really want to communicate, would not take time, but when I know there is a deadline to be met, I just take a step back and go into self introspection. Time management or haveI become so busy that I am not prioritis-ing my monthly columns? This is when I go back and tell myself about one of the rst and most important lessons in work culture:

Determine which promises you can’t a ord to break. In a chaotic world, promises matter. But once a reputation for honesty is tainted, there’s no going back. I am just over-whelmed and excited about the oppor-tunities that exist in Nepal. I was always told that one great idea can make all the di erence and capital follows you. It’s the attitude and change within that you need to re-look, re-align and re-focus.In this issue, I really want to share some of the sectors in Nepal which I feel have a great opportunity for the youth to capi-talise on, maybe they will align with your thoughts, maybe they will not, but I know that at least we will have started a thought chain here:- Representation of various MNCs in any sector. Be it IT or Infrastructure there are companies out there looking for able and competent people to represent them and show them an opportunity that can be capitalised.- R&D- RIP & DUPLICATE- What has worked in India, specially North India has to work in Nepal. Get the ideas/ products and market and sell in Nepal.- Mobile Apps focused and catered to Ne-pal. Online digitalisation. Music for exam-ple.- eGovernance and mCommerce. First

movers’ advantage.- Ayurveda herbal products.Brand positioning and export based.- Franchise of Indian brands/ re-tail including clothing and restau-rants.- Special Economic Zones- any Sector. Lobby/ conceptualise and market. You are in a at world. We all live in a boundary-less world. The world is your market.- Education- K-12 to getting Uni-versity rpresentations.- Low budget hotels/accommo-dations.- Marketing tools using digital media on most current business-es.- Microhydels and other innova-tive energy solutions. Instead of selling solar panels, sell energy. You will see that when you have a solid revenue and business model the nanc-ing will become easier.- Get out of Kathmandu. Travel around Nepal. You will see opportunities in areas you can’t imagine.- Follow your heart. If you are good at mu-sic and are passionate about it. Don’t give up. Re-invent your passion and see if you can smartly generate revenue.

DON’T DO ANYTHING FOR FREE IF YOU ARE GOOD AT SOMETHING.

I am sure there would be opportunities in Agriculture/ Tourism/ Areas and sectors which can be capitalised between Chin a and India, but the above is purely my own thoughts and belief.Always remember: Whether you want to be an entrepreneur or work professionally or go out of Nepal to get more skills, give back and do something for the society. Not for recognition, but for inner satisfac-tion and contentment. Whether you want to work somewhere and learn or become a leader you need to delegate and put the right person in the right place. Or if you are planning to go abroad - get the neces-sary skills and come back to your country and “glocalise” the area of expertise.

My Personal Top 3

Foods – The logic being that with the money (remittance) coming inwards to Nepal, standards of living at large will expand. Home grown brands and foods will gain a competitive edge. Using Nepal as a plat-form for innovative products can lead to expanding this to the global cart.Communication – The logic being that the degree of separation and our life be-ing dictated by technology and mobile phones is only going to grow and make it easier. Make us technology dependent, not necessarily able.Infrastructure – The logic being that when we have nothing, we have everything to build.

In this process remember:- Protect your strongest assetsEvery upstart needs capital.- Cultivate middle management A CEO can’t be everywhere. In a world without videoconferencing - and where note-carrying ravens are a slow (though bizarrely reliable) precursor to email - it’s tough to keep an eye on your invest-ments. The solution is in delegation.- Be wary of external hires The best executives are promoted from within. They understand their institution and its personalities. Most Importantly: HAVE FUN! Don’t take life too seriously!

plement systematic and scienti c sports and games programmes in the Pre and Primary levels in our schools.CG|Education has pioneered to bring Edusports in Nepal. The specialty of EduSports is that it part-ners with schools on other sport related areas such as optimizing the school sports infrastructure, executing after-school sports programmes, advanced coaching & talent spotting for school sports teams, and creating an active school sports com-munity resulting in a high quality, 360 de-gree sporting experience for the children.

Q. How are students bene tted?EduSports has a unique methodology to teach sports and other physical education activities which has a systematic and sci-enti c approach. o Use of structured physical and sports activities as a pedagogical tool for devel-oping mental skills, behavioural skills, and physical conditioning in the children.o The program covers fundamental motor skills, modi ed sports and formal sports for di erent age groupso The programme also includes detailed skill/health assessments with every child receiving a report card giving an update on the skill/ tness levels.

Q. What are your future plans?

CG|Education has drafted a long-term vi-sion and strategy in education sector. The major objective is to provide internation-al standard education at an a ordable price at doorstep. We have decided to op-erate in three major spaces immediately: School Education, Higher Education and Professional/Vocational training. Give a Thought... 10 Questions...

Laughter...

Brain Teasers...

Di erence is how you look at it

At times you look at a half closed window and feel the window is half closed. While thinking like that it is also worth enough to think how much pessimistic approach your thought is carrying. Why not think the window is half opened. A sign of op-timism is well projected while thinking along the second approach. So often we hear somebody saying ‘i trust him only so much percent’. What is meant by trusting in percentage? It also means mistrust by remaining per-centage. You trust someone or you don’t. Again it is based in your thought pro-cess. Calling a half closed window ‘half opened’ will give you an identity of a man with positive attitudes. Bearing positive attitudes is all the way better in all time. In any subject or in any matter there is bound to be certain positivity. What is di cult is to separate that element from all other negative odds. It is only a matter of habits to try to dig into any subject to identify the positive part of it. Let us culti-vate that habit so that we will not say ‘the window is half closed’.
