Photo Editor
• The Photo Editor leads the photo staff in taking and developing high-quality pictures.
• The most important job of the editor is to edit photos for quality control. – Both in the initial negatives and later in the print
and electronic copies.
Staff Photographer
• The Staff Photographer takes pictures, processes film, makes prints, and performs all functions necessary for taking and processing photos.
• Also He/She must gather necessary info for the photo captions.
Photo Assignment
• You need to understand basic photographic techniques to take good pics.
• When taking photos for a publication simply taking a photo is not good enough
• The photo must also work with the story it goes along with and fit within the goals of a specific publication.
Making Specific Assign.
• To avoid potential problems with a certain photo you have to make sure that the photographers have a clear and precise assignment.
• For example, telling a person to shoot pictures of the star forward on the basketball team on Saturday gives the person a clear and precise job to do.
Shooting Photos
• When you accept assignments you need to be committed and to take that job seriously.
• Advance Preparation– Arrive early– Make an appointment if taking a portrait– Take a lot of pics– Avoid poised shoots– Always come prepared
Captions
• The who, what, when, where, why and how.• Sometimes captions may be nothing more than
the persons name. • Writing the Caption– DON’T: Students participate in the apple-bobbing
contest during Harvest Fest– DO: Apple-Bobber Andrea Thompson, junior, chomps
on her prize during the annual Harvest Fest apple-bobbing contest. Senior Nina Fuentes won the event.
Selecting Best Photos
• Simply put, the editor picks the best photo that describes what the article was about.
