Research Proposal The more important it is to have a well-planned and adequately
documented proposal.
Two primary documents are :
1. The request for proposal(RFP)
2. The research proposal
Request for proposal (RFP) :
The RFP is the formal document issued by a corporate
research department, a decision maker, or some other sponsorto solicit services from research suppliers.
Define and understand fully the problem being addressed.
In formal RFP processes, internal experts define the problem.
They may be brand managers, new product specialists etc.

Critical components of the RFP include project
management, pricing, and contract administration.
These section allow the potential research supplier to
understand and meet the expectations of the sponsoring
management team.
RFP differ somewhat from firm to firm, the general
components are :1. Proposal administration information
It establishes the dates of the RFP process when the RFP
released , when the RFP team is available for questions, the
date the proposal is expected etc.
2. Summary statement of the problem
It often takes the form of a letter introducing the organization
that issued the RFP and explaining its needs.

3. Technical section Technical information section It begins by describing the
problem(s) to be addressed and the technical details of
each requirement.
It loosely describes the services to be performed and
the equipment, software, and documentation required.
This section should be neither too specific nor too
general to allow the suppliers reasonable flexibility
and creativity in research designing
Example : Chiller Plant

The management section also lists the requirement for
implementation schedules, training and reporting
schedules, quality control, and other documentation.
If specific supplier qualifications are needed, they

A research proposal must present the researchers plan,
services, and credentials in the best possible way to
encourage the proposals selection over competitors.
A proposal is also known as a work plan.
The proposal tell us what , why, how, where, and to whom
the research will be done.
It must also shown the benefit of doing the research.
The research proposal is essentially a road map, showing
clearly the location from which a journey begins, the
destination to be reached, and the method of getting there.

Developing the Research Plan
Determining the information needed, developing a plan forgathering it efficiently and presenting the management of the
organization.
The plan outlines sources of secondary data and spells out the
specific research approaches, contact methods, sampling plan and
instruments that the researcher will use to gather primary data.
First of all research objectives must be translated into specific
information needs. To meet the management information need,
the researcher can gather secondary data and primary data or
both.

Implementing the Research Plan
The researcher next puts the research plan into action.
This involves collecting, processing and analyzing the information.
Interpreting and Reporting the Findings
After collecting, processing and analyzing the information
collected, the researcher must now interpret the findings, draw
conclusions and the report to the management.
