In this project you will create an accurate 3D model of the kidney, as well as a close up model of a nephron.

Instructions

o Read through the Unit 14 Lesson, Urinary System, paying particular attention the Kidney, Nephron, and Function of the Nephron notes.

o Build a model of the kidney and a close-up model of the nephron. Please make sure that your model includes all of the parts listed below:

o kidney model § cortex § medulla § renal pelvis § calyx § ureter § region where nephrons are found

o nephron model § blood vessel portion

• afferent arteriole • glomerulus • efferent arteriole • peritubular capillary network

§ tubule portion • glomerular (Bowman's) capsule • proximal convoluted tubule (PCT) • loop of Henle

o descending limb o ascending limb

• distal convoluted tubule • collecting duct

o Take photographs of the models and place them in a Word Document, PowerPoint Presentation or Presi Presentation.

o Label all of the above listed parts and provide a brief, point form explanation of their functions.
