Chapter 1 – Week 1Self Portrait on Illustrator

On Illustrator this week, our class started to look into animation for our overall subject at the end of this term. We were asked to take the notes we took in the class and make ourselves in animation form, in addition to explaining how we did it.

I started using the shape Rounded Rectangle Tool to get the shape of the face so I could get a side angle of the face. After, I picked a light beige colour.

After this I started to look into making a nose, eyes, and eyebrows. I first started with the eyes so I got the Ellipse Shape tool to get the right shape I wanted to use for both the eyes. Next I picked the white colour, which was slightly of-white so it was not over white for the background of the eye. After this I used the Ellipse Shape tool to make a green Iris of the eye and placed it in the middle of the eye. Next I did the same thing for the pupil of the eyes.

After that I highlighted all of the eye and used the ALT key on the keyboard and left clicked to drag a new copy of the eye. Next I moved them close but left a bit of room for the nose so I could get a side look of the face. After this I started to make the eyebrows. I did this by using the Ellipse Shape tool again. After this I used it again but put half of it over the other one to get the arch shape for the eyebrows. After this I went to the Pathfinder Tool and used the Minus Front tool to get rid of the shape I used to get the arch, but also the half of the other shape so it would make the arch shape I wanted for the eyebrows. After that was done and placed over the eye, I copied the eyebrow the same way I did the eyes to make two of them.

When that was done I went to the Rounded Rectangle Tool again and started to drag it out while using the up and down keys on my keyboard to make the edges go to a more rounded shape. After I did that and had the size of the nose I wanted I moved it to the right between the eyes and let it go on to the left eye a bit to get a side look on the face again.

When the nose was done and in place, I started to work on the ear. I did this by making a Rounded Rectangle and did the same thing I did to the nose. I rounded the edges and I added the ear to the

side of the face. I made a little Rounded Rectangle shape and made it a dark colour and put it on the ear. I did this to make it look more like an ear with the inner ear represented.

Next I started to make the mouth. I did this by using the Rounded Rectangle Tool again and putting a rectangle shape over half of it to get a smile. I used the Pathfinder Tool and used the Untie feature to make them in to one shape. After that, I made one more little rectangle using the Rounded Rectangle Tool and put some of the shape over the other one. Next I used the Pathfinder Tool and used the Minus Front Tool to get rid of the half of the shape I did not need.

Figure 4 - Self-taken screenshot

Next I started to make the hair for my self-portrait. I did this by using the Shapes Rounded Rectangle Shape and the Rectangle Shape tools. I started with the Rectangle shape to get a flat top of hair. Next I used the Rounded Rectangle for the side of the head and the hair on the side of the head. After that, I started to use the Direct Selection Tool and I highlighted the shapes I wanted to edit. I did this because I wanted to get more of a hair look to it.

Figure 5 - Self-taken screenshot

I used it to move the anchor points and moved them around until I was happy with how it looked. Next I made the neck with a Rounded Rectangle shape and then made the colour a bit darker compared to the rest of the skin. I did this to give it a bit more of a shadow for depth and a 3D effect.

Page 7: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

After that, I started to group the layers into three groups. One being Hair and Ear. Next being Face and the last one Neck and Body.

Self Portrait on After Effects

Today in class I learn how to make an animation by using After Effects. For this I started off by opening Adobe After Effects and went on to the navigation bar at the top and clicked on Composition setting. After I did this I went down and clicked on New Composition and started changing the settings. I changed the name of this new composition to my self Portrait 001. When that was done, I changed the Preset to Custom. I changed the width to 1280 px and I also changed the Height by 720 px.

I also changed the frame Rate to 30 per second. The last thing I did was changed the Durations to 0:00:10:00 and I kept the background black.

Figure 7 - Self-taken screenshot

After I had the new Composition done, I started to get my portrait form Adobe Illustrator and put it on to Adobe After Effects. I did this by clicking 2 times and it opened my folder on my computer. Next I went to my USB folder and found the bit of work I was looking for.

Figure 8 - Self-taken screenshot

When I found the work I was looking for, I clicked on the work and went to the import and went on the option Composition – Retain Layers, and then went on open.

Figure 9 - Self-taken screenshot

After I had my puppet open on After Effects, I went on to the side box called Project and draged the Puppet 001 Composition box to the box next to the timeline. When that was done, I clicked two times on the puppet layers and that opened a new project at the bottom. This enabled me to control the layers I had made.

After that was done, I started to Parent the layers to each other so when the lower leg is connected to the upper leg, I could move the upper leg, whereby the lower leg will move with it. I then connected the head to the body, the arms to the body and the legs to the body. I did it this way because the body has joints so if you move one part the others will follow, and I did this because I wanted the same effect.

Page 9: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

After I had the parts of my puppet set up with the right Parent, I started to move the anchor point for each part of the body and move the point to each joint of the leg or arm so it would move like it would for a human.

After everything was in place to started moving the puppet. I clicked on R on the keyboard to get the rotation tool to go on each layer. When that was set I went on one of the body parts and set a key frame every time I move a part.

History of Education

I started my research on education by going back in time then looking in to what people thought of what education could be in the future. I started looking at what schools and education were like back in the 1900s and how they were like before schools were established. With all the information I have gathered I made a timeline of the history of education.

Task Introduction.

My main subject for my animation is education. To research this I will do background research first. To do this I will use Piktochart to show a history of my subject from the background research I gather. I will do my background research by using reliable sources, so I know that the information is genuine.  Once I have completed my background research, I will use what I have learned to help me choose a research question. My research question needs to be not too specific but not too vague. I need to use Harvard referencing so I and others will know that my research is genuine.

Chapter 2 – Week 2

I created a mind map to help me come up with story ideas for my Animation.

YouTube and…?

YouTube.

Audience and reach

YouTube has been around since February 14th, 2005. It was started by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. To this day the platform is still growing in size and popularity. Currently, YouTube is the second most visited website in the world.

The first ever video that was posted on YouTube was on 23 April 2005. There are 300 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute. YouTube in 2017 has around 1,300,000,000 users online and also YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day. In an average month, 8 out of 10 18-49 year-olds watch YouTube the most. Almost 5 billion videos are watched on the platform per day.

The most popular category on YouTube for women is ‘Makeup and cosmetics’ at 89.31% and not that far behind is ‘Skin and Nail care’ at 85.29%. For men the two most popular categories are closer, in terms of percentage, compared to womens. The two most viewed are ‘Soccer’ at 94.62% and ‘Strategy Games’ at 94.42%.

Features (technical issues? Size? Publishing time?)

One of the main technical issues that YouTube had in 2017 was when one person would subscribe to a YouTuber, the YouTube subsciption count would go down by 100 subscribers. YouTuber Channels lost lots of subscribers by the thousands due to fuctionality problems. Another technical issue in 2017 was that some videos would not go in to the Subscription Box and then would turn up days later. The only way to fix this would be going on to the channel itself to find the video.

On YouTube viewers are allowed most videos all the time. However, there are times where a video could be taken down or demonetised. Demonetisation means that if the YouTuber is making money from YouTube and their video gets demonetised, they would not make money from the said video. Other issues can include copyright claims where a video is blocked in some places or everywhere. Some videos could be age restricted.

Pros and cons

The cons of using YouTube for uploading work or videos would be that it could be put under an age restriction or copyright, and that would mean people would not be able to see that video.

It can be argued that the pros outweigh the cons as YouTube is free to use and individuals are able to put up a video however long it is. YouTubers can tag the video with topics that it is about. This enables people who would not normally watch such videos to become interested in some of the content, which would encourage them to find and watch the video. Also viewers can give feedback on videos in the comment’s section.

Facebook

Audience and reach

Page 13: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

Facebook has over 1.15 billion daily active users. Facebook is the market leader for social networking sites. 75% of men use Facebook and 83% of women also use this site. The ages 18-29 use Facebook the most at 88% and 30-49 at 84%.

‘While Facebook might not have the same new and young feeling as Instagram or Snapchat, 79% of internet users still log into Facebook’ (York, 2017).

Features (technical issues? Size? Publish time?)Some of the features that Facebook has is that users can upload any size picture or video without worrying that it would be cropped. Users can make a Facebook page that advertises their business and individuals can share their artistic work, such as videos, photographs and poems. Users can upload anytime on Facebook but cannot schedule a specific time in the future as you can on YouTube.

Pros and consThe pros of using facebook are that individuals can put all their work onto one place and this site is useful as users can make a facebook page about a particular subject. Also on facebook it is easy to interact with people by using the comment section or via the inbox function.

The cons of using Facebook is that it would not be as easy as YouTube or Instagram for people to find specific pages. This can be overcome by tagging particular subjects, although many people do not look at the tag page.

Twitter

Audience and reach Twitter isn’t the most popular out of the social media platforms but for businesses its one of the best ways to get your businesses knew. Twitter has ‘25% of online women use Twitter and only 24% of online men use Twitter. The top ages for using twitter are 36% of 18–29 year olds use Twitter and 23% of 30–49 year olds use Twitter.

Features (technical issues? Size? Publish time?)Some of the features that twitter has out that you can only use certain amount of word characters, this could be a good and bad thing because if you didn’t want to go over bored with lots of words about your product and wanted to keep it short it be good to use twitter, as you can’t go over that many characters.

Pros and consThe pros of using twitter to get your work out there is that a lot of business use twitter. But also, that it would be easy to get your work out there with the tags and likes.

The cons of using twitter is that you can’t go over bored with saying what your product, as you have to keep to so many characters.

Instagram

Audience and reach

For Instagram they user audience is over 500 million people, with there being 90% of the user being under the age of 35 years old. Instagram started back in October 6, 2010. And ever since then has only got bigger.

With Instagram being one of the main ways to get out short video and picture. At some point in 2016, a six-month period Instagram grew its daily user count by 100 million users. Now in 2017 Instagram has more than 600 million active users daily on Instagram. The ages 18–29 year olds at 59% and 33% of 30–49 year olds use Instagram.

Features (technical issues? Size? Publish time?)For Instagram the publish time can be whenever you want, but unlike youtube you can’t set a time and let it upload itself at the set time you set it at. You can only upload photos and videos with texts under the said picture or video. And video can only be up to one minute. One of the many features that Instagram had that you can have ten pictures put on to one post, such as you have your first picture as your thumbnail then you use the side arrows to change to the next picture or video.

Pros and consThe pros of using Instagram are if you was just uploading pictures and not a long video is that you can tag your pictures with a # and it will go on to a hashtag wall, so people who are looking at the same hashtag as your work is tagged in will see it easy and it will get you more follows

The cons of using Instagram are that you can’t upload video longer than 1 minutes. So, if you wanted to upload a 5 minutes video the media platform wouldn’t let you unless you did a live show, but you couldn’t put your video on the live show. Another con would be if you had a picture at a certain size you would have to crop it to put that picture on the app so it wouldn’t be that good if you wanted the full picture.

Analysis of 2D Online Animation

The 2D animation I picked was Dark Dark Woods by The Animation Workshop. This animation is about a young girl called Maria, who is also a princess. Marie has had enough of her day to day life of being a princess. With all the lessons, responsibilities for being a young princess, and her duties all on top of each other, every hour of every day, she gets overwhelmed. Maria is swept away by the monster-filled dark woods on an adventure.

Animated Short Films. Net has done lots of different variety of animations, such as drama, horror, action and comedy. They have they own web site and own YouTube channel where they publish their content such as 2D animations, 3D or stop motion.

I picked this animation because it appealed to me because of the style of the animation such as the colour palette and the design of how they showed the animation. Also, the little details they put in the background such as the tree and the logo at the start of the animation.

The format of this animation is a narrative. This is because the animation follows a story line that is an adventure story line.

This story is structured in a A to Z story line way, where it starts with the young princess in her own room then she gets dragged by the helpers of the castle getting her ready for her crowning. After this she gets thrown in to all of her lessons and duties and she starts getting overwhelmed with it all until one night she goes on an adventure with the Dark Woods monsters. After having fun and starting to get tired she goes back in to her mum’s and dad’s room and falls asleep. In the morning her dad throws the helpers out of the room and has fun with his family. The story follows a chronological story line with no flashbacks.

I think the animators chose this approach to format and structure the animation the way they did because it makes the story stand out more and the watchers of the animation will not get too confused and will find it easy to follow along the story line.

The colours for this animation are not that bright, they are subtler at the start of the animation then around the end when she is in the woods with the monsters some parts are brighter such as the monster’s eyes. Also the colours do get brighter when the girl is having fun in the woods then when she is doing her lesson with the help at her home. The style of the animation is very much Fantasy, I think because the animation is targeted for a younger audience. The animators I think will coming up with the idea of this animation, they wanted to give kids in mind and bass it around that, as kids get bored easy and they come up with lots of things like monsters that why they gave a style that would be suitable for a younger audience.

Page 16: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

The audio that the animation has was sound effects, no talking but it has some vocal expressions such as humming, laughing and sighing. I think they did it this way where there is no talking because it shows that not everything needs to have talking and that you can communicate through actions. The sound effect went well with the animation because without the talking it helped the audience who is watching know what is going on. The music went well also as it went with the pace the animation was going and showed the mood the main character was feeling at the time. I think they made the sound this way is it gave more of a mystery effect but also still showed what is going on at the same time.

Chapter 3 – Week 3

Animation Story Synopsis

The year starts back in 1918, schools are very different to the 2018 and the 2118 schools. They didn’t have paper or laptops to work on. They worked on blackboards.

A 15-year-old girl was sitting next to her best friend it was one of the main rules not to talk in class but there weren’t any teachers around. They were only talking about what they were going to learn in the class, but the teacher heard her and sent her outside to have 3 whacks with the cane.

The years move on to 2018, schooling is much different back then in the 1918 time. Kids wouldn’t listen to the teachers. The teachers would get annoyed at students and they would send then outside and give an after-school detention.

But education has got better. They have laptops and paper they can work on now, and it isn’t all about written work anymore. Schools do more creative work such as art, music and cooking but it is under threat.

Then we go to the future, the year is 2118, there are no more teachers, only the one to make sure you came in to school. Otherwise it’s all robots and computers. Lessons only last 5 minutes each. And all you have to do is put on the computer mask and push a button on the screen. While robots run around checking everything is going okay.

Is this how you see the future being? No more creative work and no more socializing?

Homework Sound ExperimentFor this homework we had to take 3 audio clips of us saying the same thing but for each one we had to do it in 2 different place such as bathroom and outside and so on.For mine one I did bathroom, front room and outside. For mine I found that in the bathroom it had more of an Echo then the other 2 places I picked.

For the front room one the different with this one is that my voice doesn’t have an echo to it like the bathroom one because of all the Furniture in the room

On the last one that I did outside you can’t hear my voice that

well as the background noise was overpowering. The wind and rain made my voice sound quieter.

This week we started to look at how sound works in animation and how to use sound to make animation more alive.

The homework for this was to get sounds of off freesounds.com and SoundBible.com to find sound effects to go with a clip we were using to test on.

After watching the animation, the sounds I needed were, a banging noise on the floor, a grr sound, whooshing sound for the wind, whipping sound for the fast hand moves and a crackling sound for the fire at the end of the animation.

After I had all the sounds I needed, I took them in to Audacity. When everything was ready I got the banging sound I wanted for when the feet were hitting the floor in to Audacity. I did this by going to file, then import and after that I went to audio.

Figure 11 - Self-taken screenshot

Page 20: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

When the sound was in Audacity, I started with listening to the sound again, when that was done I cut half of the clip away as I didn’t need more than one bit of the sound.

When that was done, I highlighted the clip and went on to the tool bar and went on to Effects, then I went down to Equalization. I did this to make the sound sound more heavy to get the effect that the character was hitting his foot hard on the floor.

Figure 12 - Self-taken screenshot

After, I went on to File and went down to save the sound.

When that was done I listened one more time to the sound and knew it was fine to move in to Adobe Premiere Pro, where I would be putting the sound to the animation.

When I went on to Adobe Premiere Pro I went to the box next to the timeline and clicked two times to open my USB folder and got the sound I saved and opened it on to Premiere Pro. When it was done, I put the audio clip on to the preview box and listened if it was still okay. It was, so I dragged the sound on to the animation at the time I needed it to be. I made sure it was in the right place by using the left and right arrows on my key board to check which frame it needed to be.

Figure 13 - Self-taken screenshot

When I did this for all the sounds I needed and checked that everything was in the right place, I went on to File then on to Export. Next I changed the Format option to H.264. After that I changed the Preset to HD720p 25 as that was the preset that the video needed to be exported in because it is a good quality for video to be in that are going up on YouTube. After that, I made sure that the video was saved in to the right place, and I made sure it was exported and that the video worked.

Analyse: 12 principles of animation

For this task I had to pick an animation on a channel called Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell on YouTube and analyse the video with the ‘12 principles of animation’ and say what I can see about what principles are being used and what impact they have to the video.

The 12 Principles of Animation were founded by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas.

The animation I picked to analyse with the 12 principles of animations is The Rise of the Machines – Why Automation is Different this Time. I picked this one as it has all different shapes and has lots of different things to analyse.

The first one I looked in to was Squash and Stretch. Squash and Stretch for animations is for example when a ball hits the floor with animation you would leave it to hit the floor without it squashing in a bit to give off the bounce effect, unless it was something heavy. When watching the video, it was hard to analyse when this was being used but I did find one like when the bird at the start of the video closed its eye a bit, the eye stretches out a bit then when it opens, it went back to its ordinary shape.

After that, I looked at Anticipation. Anticipation is when there is a little action before the proper action, such as when you’re about to hit someone you pull your arm back. This is to give it more of a feel of energy to the movement and makes it look more realistic. Anticipation also helps communicate the action to the audience by preparing them for the next part. In the video I picked there are some examples of anticipation being used. One of them is when one of the robots moves their hand back before placing the object on to the table. One more example of this being used in the animations I picked is when the person in one of the parts of the video pulls his leg up on to the sofa and brings his leg to him.

Next one I looked in to was Staging. Staging is the presentation of any idea. This is to make it so that it is completely clear to the audience. Staging can apply to many things in animations such as timing, setting and acting. When using staging you always have to do one thing at a time and put it in an order that will not get too confusing to the audience. An example of this that I found in the animations I picked is when the aeroplane comes on to the screen and then the three-separate screens come on with the robots. This doesn’t

Page 22: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

confuse the audience as it is staged in the right way and your eyes go from one side of the screen to the other easily.

Next one of the 12 Principles of Animation I looked into was the Arc. The Arc is used in animations to make the object have a more realistic effect to it. Like when a person moves their head side to side, if you add an Arc to this movement it makes the head look more realistic to the audience. The example of Arc that I found on the animation I picked was when the four-separate screens come up and all the equipment comes up they all moving in an Arc shape.

After that, I looked in to Secondary Action. Secondary Action is gestures that help the main action by adding more dimension to the animation. For example, when the character is running, the main action would be the legs moving but the secondary action would be everything else moving such as the arms. This can also can apply to facial expressions. The example of a main movement in the animation was the character doing farming in the animations when hitting the floor with some farming equipment, the secondary action she was doing was moving her leg back when she hits the ground.

Next, I had a look at Slow In, Slow Out. For this principle in animation it is that every movement has a slow in and then a slow out. This is where the movement starts, it starts out slow and then goes to the speed you wanted it and then it goes slower for the end. This gives it more of a realistic feel.

The last principle I looked at was Timing in animations. Timing is one of the main principles used as if everything was out of time it wouldn’t look right, and it wouldn’t make sense to the audience. But also, the personality and nature of an animation is affected by the number of frames in each main action. Such as if you had lots of different frames in one move, it would make it move slower but if you had only a couple it would make it move faster.

(Nutshell, June 8, 2017)

Task two: Analyse 2D animations

For this task I have to find an online 2D animation of my choice and analyse the 12 Principles of Animation but also, explain how they demonstrate the principles in the video. The 2D animation I picked was ‘GRAVITY’ by Ailin Liu.

Within the first couple of seconds I noticed one of the 12 Principles of Animation. The one I saw was Slow In, Slow Out. When she stops moving her hand over the title and starts to bring it down towards her, she starts slow to move down and then speeds up, but also, she starts to slow down when she puts her hand out.

Page 23: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

Figure 16 - GRAVITY screenshot, YouTube

(Liu, July 15, 2014)

Not that much after I noticed another one of the 12 Principles of Animation in the video I picked. It was the Secondary Action. When she starts to fall on to the floor her legs move but also her arms move with her. But also, she falls in a Arc shape so that’s another one of the Principles.

Secondary Action is one of the main ones I noticed a lot in this animation. For her running with her legs but using her arms as the Secondary Action, and her using her hands to use magic and moving her leg out as the secondary action. This gives the animation an elegant feel.

Figure 18 - GRAVITY screenshot YouTube Video

Page 24: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

For Staging there was a lot of things going on in the end scene, where they are dancing all over the place put it is staged in such a good way that the audience can follow easily. There is also some Arc being used in this scene when they are dancing.

Figure 20 - GRAVITY screenshot YouTube Video

This full animation uses a lot of Secondary Action and Arc that make this animation have a very elegant style to it and theme, and this goes with the name of the animation very well.

This animation has helped me spot some of the different ways you can make an animation work well. Some of the Principles would go well in my own animations to give it more of a reality to it all, but to also make it easier to make the animation itself.

Some of Principles I could use are, Secondary Action for when the teacher is moving in to the class room, and also when the student is getting up from her chair by using her arm by holding on to the table getting up.

Also, I could use the Arc for movement of the characters, like when they are moving their arms, walking or drawing. Slow In, Slow Out could also be used in my animation, by using it when my characters are moving. (Liu, July 15, 2014)

YouTube Interactivity and Interactive Elements

YouTube has grown since it started on the 14 February 2005. Since then YouTube has got more interactivity, such as you can use your phone to get to a channel or a playlist if the YouTuber has put that at the end of the video. Or you can just scroll down and hit the subscribe button.

Some interactive elements that people use every day on YouTube are using the live button and dislike button, comments, subscribe button and the end cards.

With annotations for YouTube, Google had removed them because more people are using phones then laptops, and on phones you couldn’t assess the annotations features on mobiles. So, google took the End Cards feature, where YouTubers can put videos or Playlist or your channel picture, this will promote subscriptions to your channel. Annotation don’t work on phones, but end screen do that why it is better to use it as most peo0ple use phones now a days.

Figure 23 - Screenshot of my YouTube end cards

How to get this feature on to your video, is to first to go to the top right comer on any page on YouTube and go to you YouTube icon. Next go down to the Creator Studio option and click. After going to the Video Manager, when you’re on the list of your video pick the video you want to add a end screen to and go on edit that is under said video.

Figure 24 - Screenshot of my YouTube Picture

After you get on to that, go to the bar on top of the video screen and go on to End Screen & Annotations. When you on the end screen page this is where you can add the end screen features to your video. You can add theses to the last 20 seconds of your video but you can changed this by moving the time bar at the button of the screen after you put the features on though.

Page 27: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

Figure 25 - Screenshot of my YouTube end cards

You can add end cards to your video by going on to the blue Add element button. You can add up to Four things, but one must be a video or playlist. You can ass other channels to this End Screen but also your own. You can move the boxes around the screen once there on to anywhere in the blue outline on the preview screen. after you added everything you needed you press save.

I can use this for my work by adding threes at the end of all the video that I put up on my YouTube, so people can see my other videos but also know where to subscribe and who made the video.

Task two: Tagging videos

Tagging is one of the ways for people to find your videos you can use any tag you want. With tags if you use the tag Netflix and someone put that in the search bar at the top of YouTube and search it it will come up with the many other videos with the same tag. It makes it easily for people to discover your videos on YouTube.

They are four types of tags you can use for your videos, they are Specific Tags, is one word to describe the video, Compound tags multiple words that describe the video such as title of the video, Generic Tag which is general words that describe the video and the last tag Misspelled Keywords words that your audience might misspell when searching for the video.

Page 28: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

Figure 26 - My YouTube video tags

the difference with the four tags are that the Specific Tag, where you use only one word to describe the video, say the video is about a tv show you words put one of the tags as tv and for the Compound tag, multiple words that describe the video. You can use the tv show name but also the title of the video that your putting up on YouTube. Aldo the Generic Tag which is general words that also describe the video, say it was a horror video you would use the tag horror for this one. And for the last one the Misspelled tag, you would use tags that are misspend what people would miss spell wouldn’t notice.

The limitations on tagging content is 500 characters while using tagging, it is a lot, but they can run out fast, if you go over this it won’t let you upload the video to YouTube and it also won’t let you save the video.

For the dos and don’ts of using tags but clickbait your video with the tags or in the title, because it is misleading. Keep to key words on your video that have something to do with the video your uploading to YouTube. Make good tags and powerful ones to show what in your video as this can help with YouTube raking your video. Do tagging and end cards for all your video as this can help bring up views but also for YouTube to go back to your video and raking it again.

I will be using this for my video to get more views, I will be using all four of the tags in my video while staying under 500 characters. I know this will help people find my video and help my work get out there more.

Juggernaut Champions sound experiment

This week my class got set a task where we had to make sounds to an 2D animation called Juggernaut Champions with only using one bit of paper. To start this off we had to go in to our design groups and watch the 2D animation and pick out the sounds that we had to make. As there was only two of us in our group and only one person in another group she joins ours to pick out the sounds. The sounds that I picked out form the animations were, fire, lighting, and swords sound, jumping and failing to the ground. After we picked out the sounds we tested them out with just the paper for now and try lots of different ways to get the sound as close as we can to the sound we needed, like hitting the paper that we folded and hit the paper against our hands to get the impact sound of them failing to the floor.

Page 29: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

When we worked out the sounds we needed and how we were going to make them we started to set up for the next day. The next day all our group were in but 2 others still joined in our group so there was 6 of us. For recording part, we went to a little hallway no too far away from our class and did the sounds there, but we didn’t notice that we put the headphones in the output part of the recorder, so the sounds didn’t work when I looked when we got back to class. So, the next lesson we had we went back out to a different place as the one we used before had people around, so we couldn’t get the sounds there. So, we went to a quiet room in the liberty and did the sounds in there but first we checked that everything was set right this time and that everything was in the right place before starting. After all the sounds were recording, we went off on our own and started to put the sounds in to Audacity, so I could cut the sounds down or to make the sound louder than it is by moving the + and – next to the sound, so I could use the sounds in Adobe Premiere ProWhen all my sounds were ready to move in to Premiere Pro, I started to watch back the 2D animation okay, so I could pin point what sounds I needed for white part. When I did that I started to go frame by frame by using the key bored shortcuts left and right arrow to get find the parts I needed to put sound. I started by only watching one-character movement and not everything at once. After I use the keys arrow keys to move frame by frame and when I see the character failing or jumping I put the impact sound down. I did the inpact sound down for all the Three charachrers by using the same technique using the frams.

Figure 28 - Self-taken screenshot

After the impact sounds were where I wanted them, I started with look at the animation and picked out the next action, what was the swords movements. I did this the same way I did the action before by using the arrow keys on the key bored and watching it for the movement of the sword. When I found the sword moving I added the sound, but on some of the movements the sword move 2 times, so I over lay the sound half way on the first one to make it sound like the animation is showing it.

Figure 29 - Self-taken screenshot

After I went on to the Audio Mixer: Sequence 01 under the tool bar, so I could turn all the sounds down, so it wouldn’t over power the video and make it go weird while Exporting the video.

I did this for the rest of the sounds I needed to do like the ground sound, the lighting sound and the fire sound. When all of this was done I watched the animation back to check if everything sounded like it was in the right place before I went, on to File then on to Export. After, I changed the Format to H,264 and the Preset to 1080p 29.97. after I saved it in a place I knew and then I hit export.

THE FUTURE OF…

Concept Paper and Pre-Production Document

Introduction: The Future of Education is the title of my story. My synopsis for this story is:

‘The year starts back in 1918, schools are very different to the 2018 and the 2118 schools. They didn’t have paper or laptops to work on. They worked on blackboards.

A 15-year-old girl was sitting next to her best friend it was one of the main rules not to talk in class but there wasn’t any teachers around. They were only talking about what they were going to learn in the class, but the teacher heard her and sent her outside to have 3 whacks with the cane.

The years move on to 2018, schooling is much different back then in the 1918 time. Kids wouldn’t listen to the teachers. The teachers would get annoyed at students and they would send then outside and give an after school detention.

No more creative work and no more socializing?’

The theme of the story is about the future of education and how that education is in the past, nowadays and how it could be in the future. The themes include how educations could go bad again and how technology has grown and how it could replace humans.

The settings of my story is a school but it will be in three different eras.

Background: The inspiration for my story was partly about some experiences of my own from school past days and partly from 2 weeks ago when ‘The future of… ‘Title was given to our class for a competition. My design team had to pick a subject form a box out of a selection of options. The idea was for it to be like a client brief because we had to be creative in selected limits instead of having a free choice. My research was influenced by talking to my team about what they thought education was and how they thought it would be in years to come. But also the work I did for my history of education timeline, that part helped me get the start of my animation, as the research I got was based in the past. The research I found was from reliable sources, websites such as BBC, Teach thought and TES Reporter. Some other research I did was on YouTube. I found some videos on about how the film makers saw the future and how it could be very different to today’s education. And my own experiences also helped for the middle of the story because that part is about what today’s education is like.

Genre/Category: The genre of my project is 2D digital animation with an educational feel to it. Animations that have inspired my own story animation include, Dark Dark Woods by The Animation Workshop, Rayman Legends 2D character animations, and Animator vs. Animation IV (original) by Alan Becker. My animation project has also been influenced by

Page 32: chaniellepithersdigital.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAppendix 823. Trimester 2 Calendar23. Appendix 924. Loading your Portfolio24. Appendix 1026. How to create a Professional

using simple shapes and also using Adobe after Effects to learn and practise as well as Adobe Illustrator to make characters come to life.

Audience: The audience age for my animations will be an older age such as 25, this is because this is more education then I thought I would be making it and this could help people stop the things that could happened. It be more based on schools then people in business as it aim more at them as it is about educations. The age I’m going around will be 25-35.

Distribution: I will be distribute my animations on YouTube because it’s the most popular platform out there but also with the new updates that google has put on will help with making the video an bit more better. Such as using end cards at the end of my video, this will help by showing more of my work off but also to put my YouTube channel at the end as well. As well by using tags for the video for move people to find.

Concept: In this project I am designing a 30-45 seconds animation. The animation I am making will be a 2D animation. It will be designed for the platform YouTube, because it’s going on YouTube the settings for the animation will be set to the right format for YouTube to handle. The software that I will be using for this project will be, Adobe Illustrator for making the objects and characters that will be in the animation, Adobe After Effects to animate the animation, Audacity to edit the sounds that I will need for the animations and the last software I will be using is Adobe Premiere Pro to put the sounds on to the

animation. The look I’m trying to achieve for this animation is to make it all out of simple shapes such as circles, squares and rectangles, and I used a pathfinder tool to make it look more realistic. Also I want to manipulate the shapes and add colours and variations of the colours to give it a shadow but also to make them have a more real feel to them.

Sound: Sound in animations is one of the key parts as without it you sometimes wouldn’t know what is going on. I have looked in to sound a lot for this project and have looked in to what sounds I will need and how I will get them. Some of the ways I am going to use sound is voice over, Hard fx, recording, Foley and Sound Library. The feel of the sound I want to create is have a main voice like a voice over but to still have a background noise like people talking in a class. But I don’t want to overdo the sounds by adding music to them all.

Examples I have found useful of sound is an animation called Rayman Legends. We had to pick a part of the animation we liked and go on to a sound library to find sounds that we would think would fit in to the animation. One other example I did for sound was go to three different places in a house and say the same thing and listen to it back to see what the differences in them were, like one had an echo, another one had background noise such as wind, and the last one didn’t have an echo as there was furniture in the room.

I learnt about the importance for having the right settings on a mic when recording sound. For example the Zoom mic we used in the Foley task, we had low cut off, auto level off and used wav/mp3 set to 48/24. 96/24 was a better quality for some jobs but it was more then we needed for our Foley task. The peak level of sound should be in the range -12 to -6. -6 to 0 gives head room to avoid distortion. With recording it is best to take more than one take of each sound as then if you have one that went wrong you have a backup but also you can pick the best sounding one. ‘Ident’ of each take will help when you look at the sounds as you will know what each one is.

Also I have written about a Foley task and how our team did it, further up in this document.

Style Guide:

Figure 37 - Self taken screen shot of colour wheel

I picked these colour because I wanted colours that could be used in all three parts and I wanted them to have a dark side for the future part and a light part of the today’s part. I choice the colour role Monochromatic as I wanted the colours to be close but in diffident shades that could be used in all three parts.

Asset List

The assets that I will need for this animations project are:

Three class room backgrounds (Past, today and future.) Characters. (Three Girls, Three boy, one Teacher and one robot.) Three back ground Characters. Chairs, desks, blackboard. (past) Chairs, one big desk, IWB (Interactive White Board), paints (Art class.) (Today) Pods, Masks, Robot, Computer, Shelves. (Future.)

Technical specifications (identify technical specifications where relevant, such as, resolution, video/animation frames per second, export file type [you should know what file types your online video platform supports])

I already have written about some technical specifications such as file type, and other video and animations specifications that I will need to use for the project. I did this when I described how I used the software. But the frames per second that I will be using is 30 per second as this will make the animation more fluid and work better.

Key team members:

Chapter 6 – Week 6

Evaluation

For this Trimester, I started looking in to 2D Animation, so I could make my own 30-45 seconds animation on a picked subject. For the research part of pre-production, I looked in simper shapes on Adobe Illustrator and how to make new shapes by using the tool called The Pathfinder Tool. I also learn how to layer the shapes, so I can move the object well in adobe After Effects, such as putting everything shape that I use for he face in to one layer and put the upper arm and lower arm in to two separate layers, so I can move them separately.

Other things I did for the Pre-production part of this trimester prject was was look in to sounds, such as what sound it, how the same sound can sound diffenent in diffenent places such as bathroom, front room and outside. Also how you can make sounds out of of diffenent objects. I prastised using sounds for 2D animation by getting in to a group and watching a animation that already been made and finding out what sounds we needed but when making the sounds we could only use paper to make them. So we had to use Audacity to edited the sounds, and with the skills I got form this I could use for my own project.

Also I looked in to the subject that I was using for my 2D Animstion, white was The Future of Education. In our new design teams, we had to picked a sbject out of a box and discussed what we though of the subject and what we knew of it and how we could put thouse to a 2D animations. Afterthat we went on our own to make a timeline of what Educations was back in the past. I did my own timeline on Piktochart, and found my information form wedsite such as The BBC and TeachThought.

When I looked at how educations used to be in the old days, I started to think how educations will be in 100 years, and all I could think about is how everything arts and music would no longer be there and also how it be mosty robots around and I wanted to put that in to my video that I was going to make.

When I started to think of ideas, I made a map map of ideas I had and ideas I was sure if I would be using. I made the mind map on Piktochart same as my timeline. When I had some ideas now and had a better understanding of what I had planed for my animstion, I started to make a Script, with the script I put it in a format that is easy to read but also easy

to know what is a action and what is voiceover. Also the idea that I did make in the end was that the story would start in the past and how edcuation was back in the old day, then it would more to how education is today and how it has improved, then for the last part of the story would be how education may be in the future.

Next I started on the story bored, I did this by drawing out the sceens that I wanted to make and also but the voice over and the actions as well. Other things I did to help me with the production of the project I was making was, looking in to how I used Adobe After Effects. The key things I looked in to was how to Parent the layers, I needed to set the set layer part the other for this to work.also I needed the anchor point for each layer in the rigth place so if the object was a humam, the head layer anchor point needed to by at the bass of the neck, so it would move like a human neck would.

Also I leaned how to use Adobe Premiere Pro, I Learned to put sound in to the animation and put different parts of the animations together, so I wouldn’t get to confused while editing on Adobe After effects.

Also, I looked into what media platform would best to use for me to upload my video on to, I looked at 4 different platform Facebook, twitter, Instagram and YouTube. I looked in to all the platforms audience and reach, their Features and the Pros and cons of using each one. After looking in to each one I picked YouTube, this is because YouTube is the main place to watch video on the internet and is the best one for anyone to find new content if the youtuber using the right tags. When I picked YouTube I also looked in to tags on YouTube and the end cards and how they work and also how they can help with the views on your video. So, after looking in to all of it YouTube was the best pick for my video.

After all the pre-production, I went on to production. First thing I did was went on to Adobe Illustrator and started to make my asset that I needed, such as the classrooms, the Characters and the props. I start off with making the robot for the future part of the Animation.

I started off with a simple square for the head and neck, I put theses two things in to two different layers so in After Effects I could move the head and neck separately but also together if I Parent the layers with each other. After I started on the body of the robot. I did this with just simple square again as I wanted the robot just to be made of simple shapes. After I started to add more to the face and body such as eyes, mouth, upper and lower arms. For the eyes I wanted to make the robot look scarier, so I made Iron bars to but over his red eyes to give that effect. After I added little bits of detail to the body such as buttons. As I was making the shapes I added them to the right layer, so it would be easier to more on After Effect. I made the legs with the same shapes I used for the head and also arms. I also but the

upper right leg and lower right leg in different layers as this would make it easier to make a walking cycle when animating.

After the robot was made and ready, I started to make my second asset, the main character of the future part of my story. I started with the Rounded Rectangle Tool to get the shape of the face. After I started to add the detail of the face such as eyes, nose, eyebrows and mouth. I did the eyes by using the Ellipse shape tool to make the eyes, after I put the background of the eyes to white but a bit off of white. Next, I used the Ellipse Shape tool to make a green Iris of the eye and placed it in the middle of the eye. Next, I did the same thing for the pupil of the eyes. After that I highlighted all of the eye and used the ALT key on the keyboard and left clicked to drag a new copy of the eye. Then I started on the eyebrows I did this by using the Ellipse Shape tool again in a Brown colour to match the hair that I would be adding soon. I used the Ellipse once more but put half of it over the other one to get the arch shape for the eyebrows. Then I went to the Pathfinder Tool and used the Minus Front tool to get rid of the shape I used to get the arch, but also the half of the other shape so it would make the arch shape I wanted for the eyebrows. After I copied the eyebrow the same way I did the eyes to make two of them. I made the nose with the Rounded Rectangle tool and out the colour of the nose a little darker to the face. And for the mouth I just used a line to get a bored expression for the face. Everything that was on the face was out in to the same layer.

For the body I use shapes such as the Rounded Rectangle Tool and Ellipse tool to get the body the way I wanted. I layer the body and arms on different layers, same with the legs as well. I have upper and lower on both arms and legs, so I could move then better on After Effects. I made the legs and arms in the same ways I used the Rounded Rectangle tool.

For the skirt I did this by using the Rectangle tool and butting Three times and putting two at an angle, then I put the two to the side of the other Rectangle and by using the pathfinder tool to get rid of the side of the skirt to make it look more of one. For some of the of the other characters I did the same thing, but I changed the colours around and made different hair styles and mouth shapes.

For two other characters I needed to make them face backwards I did this by making the face once and then put the hair over the face and the body. I still made the eyes and the

rest of the face, but I put them under the face layer and the hair layer. After I added the neck and the body. I put the arms in front of the layer of the body, so you could only see some of the arms as they were facing the other way.

I use the same shapes I did with all the other characters, but I did it in a different way, so it made them look like they facing the other way as I wanted that as them characters are in the start of the animation and will be facing the Teacher.

When all the characters asset were made and ready to be moved over to After effects, I started to make the Four backgrounds I would need for the animations, The past classroom, todays classroom. Future hallway and the future classroom/ shelf.

I start with making the pass classroom background. I started off with use the Rounded Rectangle and made Two in different colours for the wall and the floor. Next, I started to make the blackboard I did this by using the Rounded Rectangle too. After I made the table with the same shape I did with the backboned but for this shape I use the white arrow on the tool bar and use the point of the shape to move it around so it keeps it more of a table shapes and did the same of the side of the legs of the tables as well but the colour of them to a darker colour to give a shadow to the table.

I did the same for the todays classroom but for that one I made one big tablet then 2 little ones. Also, for this class room I made bits of paper and art pots and but also paint brushes. I made the paint brushes by using the Ellipse shape tool and use the white arrow on the tool bar to make the one point of the brush more up to make a tear shape. After I use the ALT key on the key bored to make a copied of the shape, then use the Rounded Rectangle tool to put over half the tear shape. Then used the Pathfinder to get rid of the bottom half of the shape. I put that half over the other tear shape and changed the colour, so it looked like paint. I did the same of other paint brushes but in different sizes.

After all my asset were made and ready to be moved on to After Effects, I started to open a

new New Composition and started changing the settings. I changed the name of this new composition to Part One of Future of Educations. Next, I made sure that the Width was set to 1920 px and the Height to 1080 px, also I made sure my background were the same as this was the size that was good for YouTube. I also changed the frame Rate to 30 per second. The last thing I did was changed the Durations to 0:00:10:00 and I kept the background black.

Next, I went to the side box on the screen and brought in my asset I needed for the first part were and set to the went the import and went on the option Composition – Retain Layers.

Next I double click on the backgound layer to bring up the compostion folder so I could move the backgound without worried it would move everything with it. I did this for everything I needed for this part of the animation. When I went back to the main timeline, I made the teachers timeline further back so she would come into the scene later on then the main girls behind the decks.

Next I started to work on my first walking cycle, first I've got the teachers they're open so only I would be editing her and not the whole screen. Next I brought in the rules so I can see where I was

moving the legs. Then I started to Parent the layers to each other such as the lower arm to the upper right arm. Then I started to move the anchor point for each part of the body and move the point to each joint of the leg or arm. Then I set the Transform Position key on to the time line, so whenever I move the timeline on and more the leg that the position was set it would make a new key point. The walking cycle was the hardest bit of the animation for me because I couldn't get the legs to move the way I wanted them to so it would look more like walking in the end I had to just use the lower legs up and down to make it looks like walking as I couldn't get the upper legs to work the way I wanted them too.

I also had to different faces for the teacher character I moved the facing forward Face Time line further back so you wouldn't see that face until she stopped walking in the middle of the class, but I also shortened the side face, so it would disappear into the facing forward face, so it looked like she was moving her head.

For the other two characters was one walking cycle that I already knew how to do after finding a better way of getting them to walk. On the main time line, I settled the transform Position key and moved the character with the right and left keys on my keyboarded to the places I wanted them to walk to. As the walking cycle were done on there own timeline, when the movement was done the walking got put on the main timeline.

I did the same for the other three parts I needed as the only movement I had was walking and coming on to the screen at a certain point on the timeline.

After all the scene were done I went to the colleges sound recording room, so I can record my voice over but also my Foley sound that I needed for my animation. When I got to the sound room I first looked back over my script to check that I knew what I needed to say and what I didn't have to add it was actions on the script and not voice over. When the levels were checked to see if they were fine from my voice over that when I started to it took 5 takes to get everything I needed without stuttering. But when I got back to edit the sounds on audacity and I put all the task together and the sound slip was over a minute I had to cut some parts of the script out as it was over the 30-45 second limit that was went for this project.

After I started to record my Foley, the sounds I needed was walking for a person but also a rotbot. I use my own feet on wood with the micphones near my feet to get a good level of sound. But for the robot I was a metal objects on a tile surface to get a clunking noise.

For the other sounds I used Freesounds, com to get the other sounds such as, old openeing, sideing door, beeping noise, and pen on paper noise.

After I had everything for my animation, I put it alltogetter on Adobe Premiere Pro. Fisr thing I did was oout all of the scenes of the animation

toggetter. When that was done I watch though it and addeded the sound where it didn’t it to be. For the footspet I editing it so I use the left and right key on the keybored to go frame by frame to get the sound in the right place. After that was done I started to export the video. I went on to File then on to Export. Next, I changed the Format option to H.264. After that I saved it to a place I know I found it and then hit export,

After the video was done and watched thought, I went on to youtube and started to uplode the video. I set the tags on the video to the four rules of tagging which are Specific Tag, Compound tag, Generic Tag and Misspelled tags. Some of the tags I used was what the video was about so Educations and what the video was so 2D animation and I did a tag what was the title of the video.

my animation came out better than I thought it would my strengths would this project were definitely the illustrations of my characters. the Witnesses were definitely when it came to the walking cycle I couldn't understand how to work a walk-in cycle so I had to do a easy one instead of a complicated one.

I think my animation does appeal to my target audience which is 20 to 25 years old, as it dose get my point across and it isnt over the top with with information and it's simply ends with a question.

I think I could improve my work in the future is to take more time with the the animation and not worry if it doesn't come out the way you wanted to, as it could come out better then you thought. And to also plan a bit more ahead of how you could solve a problem that could occur when making animation such as a walking cycle.
