Dear Friends,Welcome to 2019 at Chabad of the Tri Valley!

This year the Jewish world will mark the 25th yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of our dear Rebbe.

In this spirit, we have planned a year of programming and events motivated by his vision. The Rebbe emphasized Judaism’s insistence that this world and humanity are essentially G-dly and good, that light dispels darkness, that Judaism should bring people together - not keep them apart, that helping others brings out the best in us, and that performing acts of goodness and kindness will bring redemption for all of humanity.

Join us for a lecture, program, or class, or event. We look forward to welcoming you into our community and family.

Rabbi Raleigh and Fruma Resnick (and Malka, Yankele, Shimi, Mendel, Mushka, Riva, & Rachmiel)

Rabbi Josh and Chavie Zebberman

CRIME AND CONSEQUENCEA 6-week course from the Jewish Learning Institute

6 Tuesdays - Join whichever is more convenient!

Morning Class: 10 AM / Evening Class: 7:30 PM

Begins February 5

Do you care deeply about humanity, are enraged by injustice, are fascinated by difficult-to-solve real-life scenarios, and committed to seeing a justice for all? Then this course is just for you.

Explore 3000 years of Jewish wisdom about justice, criminal convictions, sentencing, crime prevention, and rehabilitation. Challenge your thinking and apply ancient Talmudic principles to real and complex, modern-day cases. Learn to discover and recover the humanity within criminals, question practices that seem unethical and unfair.

What is the goal of punishment? Is it to gain retribution for the victim, keep criminals off the streets and safeguard from future crime, set an example and instill the fear of law, or to rehabilitate the criminal and reintroduce him to society?

Is life-without-parole a justifiable penalty? Is it within our right to sentence a man to death? When would these be warranted? Is there a better way?

Register today for a somewhat devastating and infuriating but thoroughly astonishing experience!
