Description e Chad Weaver Aviation Scholarship Program will reimburse up to $450.00 to Virginia residents for private pilot flight training. e scholarship will reimburse the cost of a private pilot ground school and/or private pilot flight training at a Virginia flight school. No other expenses will be reimbursed. e program is open to students who began flight training and/or began attending a ground school on or aſter June 1, 2019. Students must have a current FAA medical. A maximum of 100 scholarships will be awarded, and only one scholarship will be awarded per student. Background e Chad Weaver Aviation Scholarship Program is dedicated to a friend and colleague of all those who call airports home. Born in Virginia, Chad was a lifelong lover of aviation who earned his pilot’s license while working as an engineer for an industrial factory in Oklahoma. Chad moved back to Virginia and, aſter a year working for the Virginia Department of Transportation, became a member of the Airport Services Division of the Virginia Department of Aviation. Over the course of his life, Chad owned several aircraſt, but was best known for his small yellow Acro Sport II that was hangered at New Kent County Airport (W96). Chad was also an avid restorer of vintage American cars, an aviation photographer and an alumnus of North Carolina State University (NCSU). To Apply: 1. Complete the application form and submit to the Virginia Department of Aviation. Only fully completed forms will be considered for selection. Mail to: Virginia Department of Aviation, Chad Weaver Aviation Scholarship Program, 5702 Gulfstream Road, Richmond, Virginia 23250-2422. 2. Be sure that your flight school fully completes its section of the form. 3. Upon selection for the program, you will receive a scholarship agreement. Please sign the agreement and return it to the Virginia Department of Aviation. Note: A list of Virginia flight schools may be found on the Virginia Department of Aviation website (www.doav. virginia.gov) In order to be reimbursed, students must submit: For ground school only – 1. a request for reimbursement (copy of approval agreement) 2. a copy of the certificate confirming the FAA Private Pilot written examination has been successfully completed between the time of acceptance into the program and the date of the reimbursement request 3. A receipt for the cost of the ground school. Reimbursement requests must be received by the Virginia Department of Aviation no later than four (4) months from date of approval.
