Selected works from design studios at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and my Senior Capstone ProjectTRANSCRIPT

This is a collection of some of my work in landscape architecture completed during my time at Cal Poly with a few post-education pieces of artwork. My upbringing into backpacking and outdoor sports combined with a musical talent has helped foster in me a passion to connect landscapes with their past and leave users reason to stop and pause amongst their surroundings. I strive to bring unique ideas to the table and view every day as something to bring a new discovery. Thanks for viewing my portfolio, enjoy!

A once thriving dairy farm lying in Squire Canyon, just south of San Luis Obispo and east of Avila Beach, is now a vineyard on a multi-family residential property. The clients envisioned a revival of the aging barn as a rustic jazz concert and reception venue using inspiration from its historic roots. In addition, the design called for two private gardens attached to the homes on the property.

The organic form and plant material are inspired by the context of milk, wine, and the nearby ocean. Blossoms of white and burgundy shades that whisp softly in the valley winds continue the theme into the planting design. The hand-renderings done in pencil and watercolor are implemented to personalize with the clients and highlight concept in design.

The new wetland matrix for New York is a resilient measure against the increase in hurricane storm surges due to climate change, which also carries the threat of rising sea level. The creation of wetland bars in the Upper Bay is a model that demonstrates the three branches of resiliency - adaptation, protection, and retreat, for the mitigation of damages caused by storm surge flooding and improves the city’s “bounce-back” abilities after the natural disaster passes.

The permanent constructed wetlands along the edge of Lower Manhattan provide stormwater outfall filtration, and acts to retreat the the urban edge from the free-flowing water of the bay. The removable floating wetlands, grown oustide the parmenent wetlands, are harvested after maturation and anchored into the shallow waters of the bay. The accumulation of anchored floating wetlands, stayed by recycled pier poles and intermixed among wetland plants growing in soil, act as a sponge during high tides and provide habitat for estuarine wildlife.

Leakage of crude oil from abandoned subterranean pipelines of the historic Chevron Terminal Station prompted this bioremediation design. GIS was used to research attributes of the Toro Creek Watershed draining into the Pacific between Morro Bay and Cayucas, and to establish a zoning management plan for ecological enhancement.

The design focuses on the Terminal Station property, a miniscule portion of the watershed with a large environmental impact, and incorporates the placement of three wind turbine fields on site to help power the cleansing process as a holistic structure (see Figure H).

EXPERIENCE
Orange County Parks - Design DivisionJUL 2013 - NOV 2013, Irvine, CAIntern— Marketed standard restroom products to the offi ce, developed a restroom design standards manual, assessed project progress on construction sites, revised GIS inventory for improved offi ce GIS systems, authored a plant identifi cation manual, compiled inventory of current park amenities, compiled color swatches for repainting park buildings, organized construction record drawings, led business meetings.
FreelanceJULY 2013 - CurrentDesigner— Rendered hand graphics for landscape design.— Established a monthly performance nightclub at a premier niche bar of Los Angeles. I redesigned interior and exterior club environment, produced set designs, creative graphics for fl yers, assisted promotional advertising, and edited music for stage productions. — Assisted in building a mascot for the Superbowl 2014.
CMG Landscape Architecture, KenKay Associates, GGNRAJUL 2012, San FranciscoShadow— Coordinated three days of interaction with each offi ce’s principals and associates, participated in offi ce meetings, and observed design processes. I was paired with Imani Hamilton, Jason Victor, and Brian Aviles from each of the three fi rms.
DLM ArchitectureJUN 2011 - AUG 2011, San FranciscoStudent — Researched child development in urban environments under the direction of Cal Poly’s Dean Thomas Jones and DLM’s Wallace Gordon, designed a new school to replace the Willie Brown, Jr. Academy Dream School in the Bayview District, collaborated with San Francisco Unifi ed School District chairmen, local architecture fi rms, low-income neighborhoods, and housing aid organizations.
Evernote HackathonFEB 2013, San Luis Obispo, CADesigner— Designed a new mobile app that links academia with social media to form stronger ties between university students and campus library resources during a 24-hour competition.
