GENERAL INFORMATION

Please note: some of our activities are offered by our partners. Should you be interested, please contact them directly for registration.

1st Term: 18th September to 19th January 2018 Registration will be conducted online from your parent login area from Saturday 15th July 2017 at 2pm. Before that date, an email will be sent to you with access to parent portal, all registration details and procedure.

2nd Term: 29th January to 8th June 2018 Registration will be conducted online from your parent login area from Saturday 16th December 2017 at 10am Before that date, an email will be sent to you with access to parent portal, all registration details and procedure.

ECA Shuttle buses Specific ECA shuttle buses with a “bus mother” are serving designated stops, as described below, on Wednesdays and Fridays only. When registering online you select the shuttle your child will use for the whole semester. Parents must also inform the bus company that their children is using the ECA bus. Biannual fee Primary level activities are semester based. Once student enrolled and activity has started, activity fees must be paid in full irrespective of whether such activity is completed. (cf. Financial Terms) Registration during the semester is possible and will be calculated pro-rata – please contact the ECA department for information.

Cancellation Policy Activities may be cancelled due to weather conditions, pollution or closure of the school due to unforeseen circumstances. Refund will not be possible. Courses are automatically cancelled during Red/Black rain warnings, the hoisting of the No.8 Typhoon Signal or when course venues are closed due to inclement weather. Refunds will not be given for non-attendance of lessons for any reason. Once a course has started refunds will not be made. Finally, please note that activities may be cancelled due to lack of the required minimum of pupils.

Insurance In the event of an accident within the premises or during school activities, the school's insurer AXA can assist with the reimbursement of medical expenses. In order to claim, you must pick up an accident declaration form from the school nurse (within 10 days after the accident). This form must be filled, signed and returned to the medical room together with the original medical invoices. CHESS

The game of chess is one of the world’s most popular games. It is practiced by millions of people : family, friends, in public places, club, tournament, correspondence, against specialized machines on the Internet, amateur and professionnal levels. Here, rules and strategies are taught by our great strategist Elsie.

CHINESE PAINTING AND CALLIGRAPHY - NEW

Online Registration (CE1 to CM2 and Y6)

Chinese painting and calligraphy have a rich history as enduring arts. Artists paint with rapid, mentally constructed strokes transporting a 'mind image' to the paper. The lessons will provide the students with theory, exercise sets and develop both their painting skills and brushstrokes on Chinese calligraphy, intended to help them to develop their own unique way of creating paintings to express their imagination, intuition and observation. In these lessons, the students will create representational and abstract paintings that will open new creative paths to explore. The lessons will cover a variety of subjects: flowers, birds, animals, and insects with some Chinese characters.

INSTRUMENTAL DISCOVERY

Guitar - Violin - Recorder - Flute Online Registration (CP to CM2 and Y6)

The ECA Music 1 hour lesson after school, students take time to listen and share. Children are encouraged to express themselves without judgement. Conducted by professional after-school music teachers, each instrumental class consist of maximum 4 students and when it is possible by level. The experience of creating music is hands-on for the children, who develop at their own pace. Playing in groups, children will gain self-awareness through performing solo and duets together. We don’t offer any private one to one lessons. We remind you that this is a session of discovery of music. Most of our professors are English speakers If you have questions please contact our music teacher for the primary, Mr. Ronald Wan ([email protected]). Families can borrow a musical instrument for one semester (numbers are limited). Please contact Chai Wan Vie Scolaire for more details.

CHORUS offers an introduction to basic drama techniques. Through the exploration of body language, mime and improvisation exercises, students will improve their voice, rhythm and space management proficiencies. Furthermore, the participation in one or more shows will allow children to apply their new knowledge, improve their concentration, as well as express their creative imagination, all in a respectful and playful atmosphere.

MANDARIN

Online Registration (CP to CE1 Beginner/intermediate – CE2 begginner or CE1-CM2 Intermediate/advanced)

The learning of the 2 steps below will be adapted to the age and level of each group 1st step: students will practice pronunciation all the time, with a combination of speaking and listening. They will improve their mandarin daily-life expressions such as family, weather, food, transportation etc 2nd step: during this beginning of Chinese language learning, students focus on recognizing basic Chinese characters and start to discover the writing (strokes and radicals). In order to promote the diversity and beauty of Chinese Cultural, activities will be introduced: Chinese painting, calligraphy, paper-cutting, Chinese songs and poems.

ORIGAMI

Online Registration (CP to CM2 and Y6)

The Art of folding paper help develop many qualities in children. It encourages listening and follow-up of explanations, develops precision, respect for the method, and increases concentration. It is also ideal for initiation into elementary geometry. When origami is taught to a group, children help each other to follow and understand the explanations, and perform the folds in order to achieve a common goal. Origami uses intelligence, understanding forms, types of movements and space, and develops visual memory. Finally, it allows children to enjoy the joys of artistic creation, the satisfaction of work done, success and thus increases self-confidence. Origami is a comprehensive activity that helps children develop and thrive

PAINTING & CREATIVE ART

Online Registration (CM1 to CM2 and Y6)

The purpose of this art workshop is discovering painting. Diversified approaches will be used in order to understand different techniques (pencil and charcoal drawings, pastels, watercolour and coloured pencils ....). They will also practice “observation drawing” to understand basics and explore the works of painters within their reach (such as Keith Haring, Braque, Andy Warhol or Mondrian to name a few). Which they can use to inspire themselves and open the doors to creativity. This program will help their confidence as they go on and convince them that they can do it on their own

SUPERVISED HOMEWORK SESSIONS (French stream ONLY) new formula

Supervised homework sessions are aimed at students who wish to work at the school, supervised and accompanied in their homework by a French teacher. Scholarship holders may send a request to the Board

SPORTS EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

BASKETBALL

Online registration (CM1 to CM2 and Y6)

Children learn a lot about details of plays and occupying space on the court. They will develop strategies, learn how to play in different positions. They will also improve their dribbling skills, learning to cross-over, bounce the ball.... At around 9 years children should get a good understanding of the game, have learnt how to play in a team as well as honing their tactics and plays. After completing this session, children will be in good position to join their school basketball team.

FENCING - NEW

Online Registration (CE2 to CM2 & Y6)

Fencing will be offered as an extra curriculum activity at the start of the 2017 - 18 school year. Participants will be able to initiate themselves to the art of fencing sword.

This sport develops first and foremost concentration, channeling of energy, and mental resolution. On the physical side, dexterity, coordination and balance will paramount.

We have the chance to have Thomas Charrette, specialised in Sabre, who is leading the course. He was member of the French fencing senior team between 2000 and 2006 and has obtained the highest education qualifications from the French Fencing Federation: Brevet d’Etat, Diplôme d’Etat et Diplôme d’Etat Spécialise (State Certificate, State Diploma and Specialised State Diploma).

FOOTBALL

Very popular sport in Hong Kong, football is a good team sport: competitive spirit, self-assertion within a collective environment. Football requires a perfect collective mind-set, respect for positions and an important communication between the teammates. A better team in place and welded is more likely to succeed, even against a stronger opponent. Playing football develops the ability to work as a team towards a common goal which will be very beneficial later on in life.

HANDBALL

Handball is not a very popular sport in Asia, but it is however played in Hong Kong. Our aim is not only competing and this activity is open to everyone - beginner and advanced levels. Indeed, handball is designed around the concepts of skill development, teamwork, physical fitness, competition play and fun

KUNG FU

Kung Fu aims for developing and revitalizing the whole body. It allows to:

Strengthen fitness

Master effective self-defence techniques If you want, you child will have the opportunity, with extra cost, to participate in belt exams. Belt Ranking: Chinese Kung Fu recognizes advancement in students through a coloured belt ranking system as a visible sign of individual progress. The instructor will advise when he feels a student is ready to take the exam for the next rank. The idea is for students to learn new techniques and also challenge themselves at each belt level. NETBALL Y6

Online registration Please note: registration is for the full year This year our girls will be taught by 2 experienced

coaches who not only make training fun but will impart good Netball skills to your daughter. For the first half of the year there will be a few short games with the island school teams The girls will learn about being a team player, increase their body strength and fitness level, and in turn grow their confidence. This year, we aim to help the girls Improve their skills as a defender, Attacker and Shooter during our training sessions. The course fee include one FIS netball dress.
