critical elements required for all International
and Global Business executives, managers, and
employees.
Mr Ralf’s session was on Resume Writing
and Interview Techniques; he started saying

to go through your resume so it’s more
important to give the best in it. He also detailed
on Types of Interviews, Evaluation of
candidates, Interview preparation, interview
attire and overall interview process.
The workshop gave a good idea about all
the above mentioned factors for our students
and they had enjoyed the sessions and felt that
the workshop was informative and useful.

IEEE Executive Day at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology
The IEEE Student Branch of BannariAmman Institute of Technology came out withan idea of giving exposure to the students onExecutive Development and EntrepreneurialSkills. It initiated to celebrate one full day forentrepreneurial development through expertlecture, workshop, technical games and projectson the topic. Thus the programme wassnowballed into ‘IEEE Executive Day’ and wasconducted on Saturday, 19th Feb 2011.
Dr. G. Gurusamy Sr.MIEEE and theStudent Branch Counselor in his presidentialaddress gave a briefing on the topic. Amongthousands of engineering colleges in India lakhsof engineers are churned out to seekemployment. All cannot get immediateemployment. Our nation is growing as thetechnical hub of the world. Our technical
acumen is now recognized by every country. This is the golden opportunity for nativeengineers to become entrepreneurs for that firstwe should become good and talented executives. The executive training and entrepreneur skillshould go hand in hand. Many countries turntowards our nation for finishing their products. This opportunity should be tactfully utilizedby domestic engineers to become entrepreneurs,he said.
Dr R.Venkatapathy, Director, School ofManagement Studies and EntrepreneurDevelopment, Bharathiyar University,Coimbatore was the chief guest and inauguratedthe function. In his opening remarks, he saidthat there are more than 400 engineering collegesin our state and half of our engineering graduatesget some Software and Information Technologyjobs. The graduates should develop theirattitude as primary goal, while qualification issecondary. Attitude must be nurtured as thatonly leads to growth of revel nature to developentrepreneurship. Attitude means to thinkdifferently. Core engineering was lacking in allthese years while IT industries and jobopportunities are not consistent. Our countryhas the best of best in many things. We havegood natural resources, vegetation, climate andother facilities. We have to come out of the
mindset and ride on creativity and innovation.
We have to think differently to become
entrepreneur. Practice when coupled withconfidence will give us success.
In the afternoon one expert Dr. S.
Karthikeyan, Director, Coimbatore Capitals Ltd
conducted an intensive workshop on
Entrepreneurship Development. He saidacquiring entrepreneurial skill is the only
solution for India to reach prosperity becausewe have adequate man power.
The one day programme was interwoven
with technical games to keep the participantsin good spirit. In the morning after inauguration
Robomania games was conducted. Theparticipants used the technical skill to win the
robo war. There were paper presentations in 4
sessions conducted in different seminar halls.
The programme was fine turned with technicalquiz where prelims were conducted to churn

Call for ParticipationIEEE Robotics and Automation Society Study Groups
The IEEE Robotics and AutomationSociety’s Standing Committee for StandardsActivities is seeking participants for two studygroups that have been formed.
Map Data Representation andFundamental Data Types: This Study Groupaims to develop a consensus on the needs forcommon representation for robot map data, including metric, topological, and semanticmaps. The Study Group will investigate thepotential for standardizing fundamental datatypes for mapping and study existing map datarepresentations from other SDOs including theOGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) and theISO. As part of its work, it will determine howdetailed the standardized data types used in maprepresentation need to be. The study group willset up a long-term roadmap for developingspecifications for map data representation anddiscuss how to represent, encode, and exchangemap data for robot navigation. The leads forthis Study Group are Wonpil Yu (Electronicsand Telecommunications Research Institute,Korea) and Geoffrey Biggs (National Instituteof Advanced Industrial Science and Technology,Japan).
Glossary/Ontology for Robotics andAutomation: The objective of this Study Groupis to identify, develop, and document salientterms and their definition so that they canserve as a common reference for the robotics
and automation community. A core issue thatwill be addressed as part of this effort is how to represent the definition of the terms. Unlikeprevious efforts which have attempted toperform similar activities in more specificdomains, this study group will take a more all-encompassing approach, focusing on terms thatrelate not only to the more traditionalmobile robotics domain (e.g., service robotics, healthcare robotics, military robotics) butextending it into the automation fieldwhich could include terms related to domainssuch as automated manufacturing shop floor. The exact scope of this effort and thedomains that will be addressed will be one ofthe first orders of business of this study group. The leads for this Study Group are CraigSchlenoff and Hui-Min Huang (NationalInstitute of Standards and Technology, USA).
The outcome of these two study groupswill lead to a project authorization request (PAR)which will initiate a standardization processwithin the IEEE Standards Association.
For more information about these studygroups or to express interest in joining, pleasecontact:
