All I Can Say IsThank You...

Greetings,

I would like to start by thanking my Officers, Committee Members, Employees, and the members of this Lodge for the hard work and dedication that they put in this year.

Although I am not a person who dwells on the past, I think it is important that we look at some of the achievements this year. As you all know, this building is 27 years old and like any other facility this age, some type of maintenance is always required. I am happy to say that this year, we managed to purchase a new 3 bay sink, a water softener and a brand new dishwasher for the kitchen.

Over the past year Monique has been the Impact Grant Coordinator which funds the Mentoring Program at the Augusta Boys & Girls Club. This grant allows these young men and women to participate in many trips and experience things they normally would not have done.

Monique is a Trustee of the Lodge and has run several functions here at the Lodge. She is always willing to help in any way to make an event successful. She has helped us get donations for our annual Turkey Raffle, donations and volunteers for the Super Bowl Sundays, helped coordinate the adult Christmas Party and found someone to donate t-shirts and raffle items for the Super Bowl.

If you see Monique at the Lodge, be sure to thank her for her enthusiasm & congratulate her on all her efforts for the Augusta Elks Lodge.

The month of March was predominantly spent planning for the upcoming years events. On April 10th there will be a Chili/Chowder cook-off downstairs at the lodge. This will be a part of the over-all fundraising effort to help homeless veterans as part of Togus’ VA2K, which will be May 19th. There is also a bright yellow box upstairs at the lodge to assist in collecting items to donate to this cause – you should be aware that there is a little competition going on between the Lodges on this one! Prize (to be determined) going to the Lodge that raises the most for our homeless vets. I am confident that we will make a great showing and the Vets will be the big winners!! More information on the cook-off and the VA2K can be found on the website at http://augustaelks.org/veteranscommittee/ or please feel free to ask me questions!

In addition to the annual Stand-Down, there are also plans in the works for a Veterans Appreciation event to be held at the Lodge this year and discussions on other events focused on helping our Veterans in other ways. Stay tuned for more information. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated!

Speaking of volunteers, our own Norman Grasse was recognized for all of his efforts on behalf of veterans at the Installation of Officers on March 19th. A veteran himself, Norm has been valuable to our efforts with the VA2K, Stand Down, and any other activity we have. He is always quick to step up and offer assistance and is truly appreciated by everyone who knows him. Congratulations Norm!

Respectfully submitted,

Karen CurtisVeterans Affairs Chairman

A “Big” Thank You to everyone that came out for our annual Sweetheart Dinner! A wonderful evening with a fantastic dinner buffet and the Not-So-New Newly Wed Game!

Thank you, Tim and Vicki Rodrigue for organizing the game, contestants and prizes. Congrats, to all of the Contestants for making it through the intimate questioning and being good sports and participating! Kudos, to Terry and Beth Baker, this year’s winners! Local Lodge Scholarship Applications are available, from the Bartender and School Guidance Offices. Deadline is the close of business hours on May 1st, 2016. These scholarships are open to any high school senior attending the schools, in our jurisdiction: Cony, Hall Dale, Kents Hill, Maranacook and Winthrop. Next Scholarship Event to support these local Scholarships is a Mother’s Day Luncheon on Saturday, May 7th! Tickets are available now! Upcoming Event is the “Ultimate” Elk Indoor/Outdoor Rummage Yard Sale, Saturday, June 11th! Call Shu or Lina at #441-2838 or #485-4710 to reserve your spot. Please consider a donation to our Local Scholarship Fund, when you send in your Annual Dues. We could use your support in building this fund and continuing with the Awesome work that is being done for the children in our communities! Mark your Calendars and Save the Date, as the Scholarship Committee is bringing back the “Miss Ugly” Show, Saturday, September 24th! You won’t want to miss it! The “Early Bird” Holiday Fair is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th, 2016! This will be a One Day Event and has been our biggest

Fundraiser event for the Scholarship Fund. Eileen’s “Pie Raffle” will hopefully be an added bonus to the Turkey Raffle, again this year! Boy, talk about Fun, what a great idea and a full scholarship was funded by this! Thank You, Members for your Support and the Scholarship Committee for your Dedication!

I would like to take this time to thank the House Committee for 2015-2016, Sara Bangs, Ryan Fifield,

John & Aurilla Holt, Eileen Broberg, Jack Thibodeau, Dave Chasse, Vic Guimond, Gil Gagne and last but certainly not least Greg Ruby.

I certainly couldn’t be prouder of the work this group accomplished this year. There was always 100% participation by the Committee at every meeting. We ran very successful events such as October Fest, The Halloween Party and several other lodge functions held throughout the year. The downstairs was re-opened after a 2 year hiatus, we are looking forward to fun and exciting events down at the finest little sports bar in the area.

I would also like to extend a hearty thanks to Nadine, our facility Manager, along with all the employees, and our Bingo Committee for their outstanding dedication, without your hard work the Augusta Elks would not be the success it is today.

I am excited to be continuing for another year as the House Committee Chair, with all of my current members staying on with me. We also will be adding Lina Michaud, Levi Violette, and Larry Lawrence to the committee, their knowledge and insight to the Elks will be very welcome. We are looking forward to another fun and exciting year, so if anybody has ideas for functions please don’t be shy, Present us with a pre-function report at the House Committee meeting (1st & 3rd Tuesdays) and you will receive all the support you need to make your function as successful as it can be.

See you soon at the Lodge.

Well, this is my last newsletter and it is with mixed

emotions that I say good bye to the position of Newsletter Editor. It has been fun and at times challenging but overall a rewarding experience. This opportunity has allowed me to be a bigger part of the Lodge and to use my creative side.

I am moving on to other endeavors but don’t worry, you will still see me at the Lodge. The only difference will be that I will not be asking you for more info about an event, who the 150 Club winner was, or to send that flyer to me as soon as possible.

I look forward to playing a different role at the Lodge & hope that you will be patient with the Newsletter Editor , David Jackson, as he learns the ropes.

Thank you all for your support, understanding & the adventures you have given me in the last 5 years.
