The diagram attached shows our new shape of the school day. This is slightly different for students of different ages. KS2 children are in Year 5 and 6 and KS3 – 5 students are in Years 7 to 13. KS2 children will start the day with Tutor time They can arrive on the school site from 8.00am where they will have access to a special breakfast club designed just for them, before moving to their Tutor base for registration. The vast majority of lessons for KS2 will take place in their own bespoke nurturing learning environment in one of four new classrooms specially built to house these year groups. They will be taught by a specialist primary team of teachers who will teach a creative curriculum which places great emphasis upon improving their literacy and numeracy skills. Students will come out of this environment for Technology, Science and PE lessons where they will be able to take advantage of the specialist facilities that exist on the site. KS2 students will return to their base for break where they will have their own play facilities and will be supervised by the Primary Team. Lunch for KS2 students is earlier than the rest of the school(s) and it is also longer at one hour rather than 40 minutes. This will ensure that younger students are able to eat in the school canteen on their own and can then play in complete safety as the older students will still be in lessons.

The school day for all students ends at 3.00pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A special homework club will be available in the KS2 area until 4.00pm for parents who wish to pick up their children a little later in the day. KS3 to KS5 students have a different shape to their day Students in these year groups should arrive at school at 8.35am every day.

Once a term individual students will also be asked to attend a mentoring session on a Thursday or Friday

morning with their Tutor. They will need to arrive for this appointment at 8.30am sharp.

Morning break for these students is 15 minutes long – slightly shorter than existing students are used to. However, lunchtime at 1.20pm is slightly longer at 40 minutes. Years 7 to 13 will have access to two canteens. One canteen will be reserved for Year 7 – 9 and the other for Year 10 through to the sixth form. The really exciting part of our new day will be reserved for our Challenger diploma sessions. These will take place on a Monday or Wednesday from 3pm until 4pm. Every year group will be required to attend on at least one of these days each week where they will be asked to sign up to a particular activity from a menu of different activities. At this stage in our planning we will be asking Years 5, 6, 7,8 and 9 to attend on a Monday and Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 on a Wednesday. Details of the menu of activities will be available shortly but they are likely to include:

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Sports leadership Award

Coaching awards

Expressive arts experiences leading to a performance for parents and the community

Mandarin Chinese

Robotics

Sailing / canoeing

Hair and beauty

Chess / Bridge

And many more. We hope that we are able to match a number of the experiences on offer to student’s current interests.

Uniform changes We are currently in the process of ordering exciting new items of uniform and PE wear. The new designs will be available very shortly. The predominant colour will be black, including a black blazer (with logo) and trousers, with an optional black and white tartan skirt for girls. We are also looking at a brand new tie that will incorporate a new logo which is currently being designed by students of Hastingsbury and Robert Bruce. The Challenger Multi Academy Trust have stated that they will help parents with the cost of changing uniform for Years 6, 7 and 8. This subsidy would be for the cost of the blazer and tie. The parents / carers of students in the new Year 5 and 9 in September would be asked to purchase the new uniform. The new uniform will be optional for the new Years 10 and 11. Details of our supplier(s) will be published soon. Admission Packs – Year 5 and Year 9 Admission packs for the new Years 5 and 9 will be posted to parents shortly. This information will include further details for all our new students joining Hastingsbury and Robert Bruce respectively. We look forward to welcoming you all in September 2016. If you have any queries or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact either School; Hastingsbury 01234 290900, Robert Bruce 01234 301222. Tours of the current Hastingsbury site are very welcome, please contact the School office to arrange. With kind regards, Yours sincerely
