Chamber Testing Power Applications_v1.1 Page: 1/6 Environmental Test Chambers/ Rooms Power Solution An environmental chamber, also called a climatic chamber or climate chamber, is an enclosure used to test the effects of specified environmental conditions on biological items, industrial products, materials, and electronic devices and components. There are different types of chambers for different testing purposes and to simulate different environmental conditions. For example, the thermal testing chamber is used to simulate how materials will react when exposed to changes in extreme climatic conditions, such as going from extremely cold to extremely hot conditions in a very short period of time. Here are some common test chambers. Temperature / Humidity Test Chambers (Benchtop, Reach-in, Walk-in types) Vacuum Chambers Altitude Test Chambers Thermal Shock Test Chambers EMC Test Chambers Dust Test Chambers Salt Spray Test Chambers Light Test Chambers For testing electronic devices, the unit under test (UUT) needs to be energized by an AC power source or DC power supply. For a UUT with an AC input, they may require single phase voltage input 100V/110V/120V/220V/240V… or three phase input 208V/220V/240V/480V… and frequency of 50Hz or 60Hz, for industrial and commercial applications. For military and aerospace applications, they may need 400Hz or 800Hz. For a UUT with DC input, they may need different DC voltage input (ex: 24V/48V/500V/1000Vdc…etc). During performance testing and burn-in testing, they may require to do a boundary test of the voltage and frequency (ex: +/-15% of the input voltage, 47~63Hz input frequency) and adjust the voltage automatically with changing the voltage for a period of time for cycling test. In these cases, an adjustable AC or DC power source will be a very idea tool for providing the clean and adjustable power based on the UUT’s voltage and current requirements. Traditionally, test engineers adjust the voltage by using variable transformer and use motor generator to change the frequency. Due to the fact that there is no regulation on the variable transformer, the output may fluctuate due to grid system fluctuation or the load change. Here is the comparison for the three different types of equipment and applications:

Single Phase Rack Mount AC Power Source – AFV-P Series AFV-P Series is ideal for single phase testing, it delivers an output voltage of 0-310 V and frequency of 40-500 Hz (opt. 15-1000 Hz). It can also option with 150% overload capability and 620V output voltage. It is ideal for commercial, defense and aerospace test applications like (motors, appliances, electronic products…etc) from design verification, quality assurance, ATE, to production test.

Single/Three Phase Stand Alone AC Power Source – AFV Series AFV product series is also a programmable AC source and it is ideal for single phase and three phase UUTs from 10kVA to 2000kVA. It has built-in output isolation transformer for providing isolation between the grid system and UUT. For three phase machines, it can adjust each phase voltage independently and the phase angle. It can provide 45~500Hz frequency output and 0~520VL-L output (option with 690VL-L or other voltage output range). It has a built-in programming steps to do sweep and ramp up/down cycling test. For three machines, they can support 100% unbalanced load and can be used for single phase UUT on each phase.

Frequency Converter /Clean AC Power Source – AFC Series The AFC Series is great substation for variable transformer and motor generator set. Comparing it to the AFV series, it is user friendly and more economical than AFV series. It is an ideal power source for those who need regulated output voltage, clean power source, and adjustable V, Hz. The low output EMI conductivity noise makes it ideal for EMC chamber power as well. Some applications may also use it for powering up 50Hz equipment or isolating the harmonic noise in their grid system and solve the grid problems. AFC Series is coupled with output voltage range of 5~300V and output frequency of 47~63Hz, 50/60Hz fixed. Users can select optional frequency output of 2- or 4-times standard frequency and 400Hz. Programmable DC Power Supply– ADG Family (ADG-L and ADG-P series) ADG Family series DC power supplies include ADG-L series from 4kW to 12kW rack mount type and ADG-P series 30kW to 100kW stand alone type. The DC voltage range is from 0~40VDC to 0~1600VDC. All ADG family series models have parallel connection capability for expanding power needs. With CV/CC/CP modes and its high voltage and high-power features, the ADG-L series is an ideal DC power supply for applications on photovoltaic (PV), electric vehicle (EV), battery charge simulation, fuse, and contactors.
