Ed Bearss is America's premier battlefield tour guide. Mr.

Bearss is a former Marine, serving in the Pacific in WWII, and

is the Chief Historian Emeritus of the National Park Service.

Author of more than 20 books and numerous articles on the

Civil War, he has been a featured commentator on Ken Burn’s

PBS documentary “The Civil War,” the History Channel, and C-

Span. Mr. Bearss has been a mainstay of the Chambersburg

Civil War Seminars & Tours since our founding in 1989.

Eric Campbell is a 28 year National Park Service employee.

Mr. Campbell is Chief of Interpretation at Cedar Creek and

Belle Grove National Historical Park. He also served as a park

ranger-historian at Gettysburg National Military Park for over 20

years. He has authored over two dozen articles and essays for

scholarly publications and a book, "A Grand Terrible Dramma”:

From Gettysburg to Petersburg, The Civil War Letters of

Charles Wellington Reed, (published by Fordham University

Press in 2000).

Dennis Frye is the Chief Historian at Harpers Ferry National

Historical Park and is an active battlefield preservationist. He

has written eight books including September Suspense:

Lincoln’s Union in Peril.

Clarence R. Geier is professor emeritus of anthropology at

James Madison University and coeditor of Huts and History

and Archaeological Perspectives on the Civil War. He has

directed archaeology projects at Third Winchester and Cedar

Creek battlefields, as well as other Civil War sites in the

Shenandoah Valley.

Jonathan Noyalas is assistant professor of history and director

of the Center for Civil War History at Lord Fairfax Community

College in Middletown, Virginia and is active in battlefield

preservation. He is the author or editor of eight books on Civil

War Era history and has contributed scores of articles, essays,

book chapters, and book reviews to a variety of publications.

Scott Patchan is a director on the board of the Kernstown

Battlefield Association in Winchester, Virginia and is a member

of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation’s Resource

Protection Committee. He is the author of many articles and

books including The Last Battle of Winchester: Phil Sheridan,

Jubal Early, and the Shenandoah Valley Campaign.

Nick Picerno is Chairman Emeritus of the Shenandoah

Valley Battlefields Foundation. He also serves on the board of

trustees of the Lee-Jackson Education Foundation of

Charlottesville. He was appointed by the Secretary of the

Interior to the National Advisory Board of the Cedar Creek-

Belle Grove National Park. He currently serves as chief of

police at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.

Jeffry Wert is the author of a number of books on the Civil

War, including Winchester to Cedar Creek, and Gettysburg

Day Three which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. He is

a frequent speaker at our seminars.

Eric Wittenberg is one of the country’s foremost experts on

Civil War cavalry. He is the author of more than a dozen

books on the subject, including the best-selling Plenty of

Blame to Go Around: Jeb Stuart’s Controversial Ride to

Gettysburg. Mr. Wittenberg has also written Little Phil: A

Reassessment of the Civil War Leadership of Gen. Philip H.

Sheridan.
