CHAIR MESSAGE

Annette Loritz, Chair

Happy spring to you! It seems as if we have finally

turned the seasonal corner and are able to welcome

spring in all its beautiful glory! I love the promise of

spring and this annual time of renewal; it is a time to

evaluate our efforts both personally and profession-

ally and dust off the cobwebs for a fresh focus.

Whether its spring-cleaning or a renewed set of purpose, it is a

time to reset areas that may have been let go or that were in

hibernation over the last several months. This is a great time to

explore your community for new activities, opportunities for

learning or networking with a refreshed look at what may

already seem familiar. For some inspiration, visit downtown Lisle,

try a new restaurant, volunteer for a local cause or stop in and

support your local chamber businesses to find out what is new.

The Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce has many events to help

you refresh your spring, get involved in your community and

attend the Downtown Business Council, Government Affairs,

LINCT-Leadership In Networking Committee Team, Ambassa-

dor or Golf Committee meetings this month. Stop by the Ribbon

Cutting and Grand Opening of the new location of TORG

Realty, Inc. or the Business After Hours at Green Trails

Apartments. Join area wide chamber members and attend the

Multi-Chamber Luncheon – Spring Into Health at Central

DuPage Hospital. For those of you with a graduating high school

student, do not miss the April 5th deadline to apply for the Lisle

Area Chamber of Commerce 2019 scholarship.

Enjoy the month and the fresh start that spring brings to each of

us.

CHAMBER NEWS

I attended the Illinois Chamber’s 2nd Annual Women

In Business Conference in March. At the event the

Lisle Area Chamber had an expo table and I met

many women business owners and employees of

small and large companies. The stories are similar

but also so different. There were so many inspiring

stories of survival, starting over and recreating their

goals for the future.

At the Women’s Conference, I was asked to speak for a couple of

minutes about our Chamber to 150+ professional women from all

industries: media, marketing and communications, engineers, bankers,

manufacturing, emergency management, chamber leaders, and

nonprofits. I was so proud to talk about the Lisle Area Chamber of

Commerce and our benefits including the Benedictine University

tuition discount for members and spouses as well as the National

Louis University tuition discount. These highly educated women

appreciated that there are ways to help educate others with some

financial help.

The technology aspect we have now has evolved to more texting,

e-mailing, and use of social media. Is networking in person not as

effective? I believe that all aspects are needed, but meeting in

person helps businesses give that personal touch and it is an

extra value to your Chamber Membership. You can find leadership,

direction, motivation, vision, inspiration, and support at a Chamber

event.

Don’t forget to have your high school senior apply for the Chamber

scholarships. The deadline for the scholarship application is Friday,

April 5, 2019. To be eligible you must live in Lisle, attend a High

School in District 202, 203 or 99 or Benet Academy, or be a child of a

parent that works for a Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce member.

Our Scholarship Committee will meet shortly after that to select the

students that will receive the scholarships. For more details, please

visit our website, www.lislechamber.com.

ILLINOIS CHAMBER’S SECOND ANNUAL WOMEN’S CONFERENCE

STRONG WOMEN. STRONGER ILLINOIS.

The Illinois Chamber of Commerce presented the

Second Annual Women’s Conference on March 15,

2019. There were many different speakers that

spoke on various panels, like It Matters: Inclusion and

Diversity, Strength in Leadership, and My Journey

Here. They also had featured speakers, Amanda

Young, who spoke on the topic of Clean Up Your

Energy; Sally Washlow, who spoke on the topic of

Bringing It All Together; Elaine Hand, who spoke

about Networking and Start Making Connections.

In addition to the panels and speakers, there was a Business Expo that the Lisle Area Chamber had an

expo table at.

This event drew over 150 attendees including both men and women in the business community.

It was a great way to network with other Chamber members and businesses that one might not have

otherwise been able to meet. Make sure and keep a look out in your email inbox for upcoming

networking luncheons and opportunities. Also, check out the Chamber website for details on the

upcoming events. You never know what connections you might make at one of these events.
