Resort InformationChamonix is just one hour from Geneva and 15km from Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel. It is one ofthe easiest resorts to access so is perfect for a long weekend. At an altitude of 1035m but with glacier skiing at 3300m, Chamonix is snow sure, with 115km ofchallengingslopesandgreatoff-pistemaking itoneofthetopresortsintheAlps.Itisapropertownandapleasant place to visit atanytimeofyear.Aspopularin summer as it is in winter, and with great après ski, Chamonixtownisexcitingratherthanpeaceful.

Argentière is a picturesque village just a ten minute drive from Chamonix. At an altitude of 1252m, thevillage ismorepeacefulthanChamonix. Ithassomecosy bars and restaurants, but if you want a bit more actionChamonix is easily accessible. TheArgentièreGlacier lies above the old village and creates a dramatic backdrop, while Les Grand Montets ski area is one of thebestintheChamonixarea.

Getting thereChamonixiseasilyaccessiblebyair,roadorrail.Itisonly 1 hour from Geneva airport making it ideal for a weekend getaway. TheMont Blanc Express railroadruns though Argentière on its way from Chamonix, and is a relaxing way to travel through the most impressive scenery in the French Alps. This is oneof the shortest and easiest transfers in the Alps so Chamonix is an excellent choice if you are looking for somethingweekendable.

Winter Chamonix is a beautiful alpine townwith 250 yearsof mountaineering history, and traditional villages andhamletsscatteredalongthevalley.Thereareicefalls and glaciers, as well as one of Europe’s highest cable cars. Cog railways give access to exceptionalviewpointsandmountainrestaurants.

Although the ski area has slopes for skiers and boarders of all ability levels Chamonix is particularly good for experts, with challenging blacks and arguably the best off-pisteskiingintheworld.Withhighaltitudeskiing,theresortissnowsureandenjoysalongseason.

From long rolling blue runs to freeride terrain and snowparks, Chamonixhas something for everyone.The lift pass, Chamonix le Pass, provides access tothe 3 main ski areas and to all the beginners slopes, while a larger pass that includes Les Houches and St Germainisavailable.

Après SkiChamonix offers a tremendous selection of restaurants that widely reflect the town’s international community, from Michelin starred establishments to localSavoyardbistros.Equallythebars inChamonixguaranteeexcellentaprès-skientertainment.Thereisalsoacasinoandacoupleofnightclubs.

Restaurants: AnnapurnaIndian food might not be the first thing you think about when it comes to Alpine food, but the Annapurna in Chamonix offers fantastically authentic indian food (none of it overwhelmingly spicy) in a cosy spot not rightinthecentreofChamonixitself.

The restaurant is very busy, so it’s probably worthbookingatpeaktimesofyear.

Restaurants: Satsuki

Chamonix is home to a host of excellent Savoyarde spots, but we at IIP like to draw attention to themore unusual features, like Satsuki. It’s a Japaneserestaurant, selling everything from sushi to teriyaki alongwithasakiandawarmingmisosoup.

SummerChamonix is a vibrant alpine town with a wonderful architectural heritage where traditional and modern stylesrubshoulders.ThePriory,alpinefarms,baroquechurchesandartdecobuildingsfromthe“GoldenEra”givethecentreofthetownanold-worldcharm.

Thesportscentrehasfacilitiesforallthefamily,withitsswimmingpoolsandwatertoboggan.Thereisalsoa new state of the art wellness centre in Chamonix MontBlancbeingbuiltfor2016.ThefacilityislocatedintheLePrazareaoftheresort,andwillhaveindoorand outdoor infinity pools, treatment rooms and

guestsuites.

Thevalleyoffers350kmofsuperblymaintainedhikingtrails, from lower walks through the forest to high altitudeglacierwalks.Thevalleyoffersalargenumberof mountain bike trails for all abilities, and there is a summer lift system available if you’re primarily interestedindownhill.

Thereareplentyofparaglidingschoolsofferingnoviceflights,orindividualandgroupcoursesatalllevels.If

you’re experienced in paragliding, you will appreciate the valley’s lift system which provides easy access to thevarioustakeoffpoints.

GolfThe 18 hole golf course at Chamonix was designedby theworld famousRobert Trent Jones Senior in asettingbetweentheMont-BlancrangeandthemassifoftheAiguillesrouges.
