Tiered Technical SupportDuring the project design phase or planning a field chemical
transition the involvement and integration of the Regional and
Global Technical Support Teams will be relatively intense in their
interactions with the Local Team activities.
As activities stabilize into an ongoing steady state supply/service
there will be a phased handover to the dedicated Local Team
and the Regional and Global Team’s degree of involvement will
decrease. However, these project specific expertise/resources
will always be available for troubleshooting systems and process
optimization.

The team’s vast experience base brings a deepened level of support to your subsea assets. Our
extensive deepwater experience includes production in some of the world’s most challenging
locations. The Depth Team is responsible for project management until steady state conditions are
achieved and then ongoing technical support of production operations. Such involvement not
only maintains the proper support services throughout, but also allows for our regional resources
to concentrate on day-to-day operational activities without impacting the resources and long-term
needs of CAPEX work.

STAgE 1 FEED
This stage is critically important to the design of the overall chemical treating program. Once these design criteria are established, it is extremely difficult and costly to make changes.

STAgE 2 Project Detailed Design
During this stage a thorough review of the detailed design of the project is conducted. This review is performed prior to final design approval.

STAgE 4 Commissioning/Startup
The goal of this phase is to complete the first oil phase of the project with no chemical-related delays or downtime. The startup team offers specialized expertise in start-up operations. The start-up lead is usually a member of the Depth Team.

Champion Technologies’ technical services support stays integrated with your operations during
the four main stages of a typical major project. The objective of this level of integration is to
ensure that you receive the level of attention needed to avoid costly changes and to develop the
necessary training and documentation for a sustainable chemical management program

Situation: FPSO in 120 meters of water depth using advanced horizontal well technology to maximize recovery of the field’s low-gravity crude (13 – 14 API).
Challenge: The project was technically challenging due to regulations and compliance concerns. In addition, the operator commissioned Champion Technologies with developing an effective demulsifier product that met BS&W content requirements reduced to less than 0.5 percent, and also mandated that qualified local manpower be dedicated to manage and operate the program.
Achievement: Champion was able to fulfill its commitments under the CMS contract, received a very high rating on the operators’ scorecard, and is providing all of the oil-, water-, and gas-treating chemistries, including an advanced demulsifier formulated specifically for the production field to break the water-oil emulsions and help coalesce the separated water. This was a critical step in upgrading oil for sale. To meet chemical obligations, we also set up and operate a self-contained mobile laboratory aboard the FPSO, manned by locally-hired technicians. Due to the technical complexity of the project, finding acceptably qualified and experienced
technicians was very difficult. To ensure that the integrity of the project was maintained, we sent the technicians through rigorous training co-developed and administered by PUC University in Brazil. The local account manager was led through Champion’s EDGEucation program, an intensive 18-month course for account managers. Furthermore, to ensure that our objectives were aligned with the operator’s during each phase of the project through first-oil, we implemented an operational and technical excellence program, which establishes standard methods for managing projects.
Value: Champion’s early involvement in the project allowed for upfront chemical program design work that was very successful at start-up. Best-in-class technology and molecules were developed in treating Brazilian oil and developed a unique demulsifier specifically for the heavy oil present. In addition to sustainable chemistries, collaboration between us and the operator improved many areas of the development of the project, including QHSSE gaps. In addition, our proactive behavior in training and communication enhanced the competence of the local workforce to effectively manage the operators’ assets within the local regulatory requirements.

Situation: During the FEED stage of a major deepwater project, the customer was considering tie-backs to topsides processing system at the host facility.
Challenge: Incompatible fluids of the tie-back and host fluids.
Recommendation: Champion was able to test and analyze various scenarios and generate recommended modifications to the system’s treatment design and treatment strategy before the P&IDs and other key project documents were finalized. Our investigation and discussions with key project personnel regarding the potential tie-backs and the risks associated with them were the driving factors in taking all the necessary precautions to mitigate the
risks associated with commingling the various fluids. Champion performed a thorough evaluation using production chemical testing, fluids analysis, and flow and fluid equilibrium modeling to validate the recommendations for the system. The final recommendations were additional injection points at key locations in the system and adjustments to the Technical Strategy for Scale Mitigation.
Value: Champion’s involvement in the FEED stage improved the efficiency of the asset development process. Our proactive behavior allowed for key modifications to the systems’ treatment design and treatment strategy prior to finalizing the P&IDs and other key project documents.

document that can educate and help reduce the risks associated
with contaminated chemical products or improper chemical
injection system operation. The four primary operational phases
of the CapAssure™
Programs are: Phase 1 Chemical Design and Subsea Umbilical Product Qualification
Phase 2 Manufacture / Blending of Umbilical Rated Chemical Products
Phase 3 Chemical Handling and Transportation
Phase 4 InjectionSystemMaintenance
Our CapAssure™ Program was the industry’s first program for deepwater chemical products to encompass
the entire stewardship of Design-to-Platform Product QA/QC Management. The program employs mature
and field-proven best practices for deepwater product design, manufacture, transportation/handling of
chemicals, and injection system surveillance/maintenance.
