Breeding GuaranteeWe guarantee all livestock sold as sound breeders. However, if we feel that the heifer has been fed to an extreme level of obesity for the show ring, we will hold the feeder responsible for any reproductive problems and no longer guarantee that individual animal. In the rare case that this should occur, we will still try and help get the heifer bred for six months. Spring heifer calves must be AI’d or exposed to a bull by July 15th.

Sale TermsTerms are cash. The cattle will sell under the standard terms and conditions as recommended by the American Hereford Association.

Pasture & Embryo Rights½ Interest Option: The buyer will own one-half of the animal and agrees to pay one-half of all expenses during a show career. Upon completion of the animal’s show career, the animal will reside in C&M’s possession. C&M will retain all natural calves with the exception of her first natural calf, which will be split 50/50 to help the buyer gain a quicker return on their investment. There will be no expenses to the buyer for cow maintenance throughout her donor career while in C&M possession.

Dr. Clay Breiner of Cross Country Genetics will be used for 90% of the flushing. If mating decisions are agreed upon, the flush will be split 50/50 with the buyer receiving odd embryos. If a mating decision cannot be agreed upon the buyer will receive the first flush and the following flushes until buyer receives six grade one eggs. Flushes and expenses will be split according to flush percentage.

For the heifers safety and the longevity of her career, C&M will select three qualified bulls that all ½ interest heifers will be bred to.

Show Expenses If you elect to have C&M Herefords exhibit your purchase at Kansas City, Louisville, Denver or Ft. Worth the following terms and expenses apply:

• Animal must be insured while in C&M’s care.

• Buyer pays 100% of expenses on 100% owned animal. Partnership animal’s expenses are split 50/50.

• Buyer will take possession after the respective show and will arrange and pay for travel expenses.

• Show expenses will be calculated at cost and divided by owned percentage and the number of animals in the showstring.

• $6.50/day feed costs

• $1,300.00/show expenses. (This is an estimate and prices may vary.)

The Bidding ProcessAll bids will be taken on LiveAuctions.TV. Be sure to register early to guarantee no delays in buyer registration.

The auction will run from 9:00 AM MST Friday, October 12, 2012 with the first lot selling at 5:00 PM MST Sunday, October 14, 2012. The auction will be closed out LIVE online (live video and audio) The starting bid will be the highest bid when the auction closes. If you don’t have computer access, phone in bids are welcomed.

It’s hard to believe we are preparing to host our second heifer sale. With each sale comes excite-ment about the new offering. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the success that our buyers had with their purchases in 2011.

As breeders, we all say this year’s calf crop is the best set ever. Without reservation, I hon-estly think this offering will be hard to top in years to come. This set of heifers is diverse in both age and pedigree, and offers the best of both horned and polled genetics.

As I traveled the country this fall, I saw breeders stricken by drought, worrying about the highest fuel, labor and feed costs this country has ever seen. I can say without hesitation that times will get better and it will rain again just as it did here in Nara Visa. My only advice to get you through these trying times is to trust in the Lord and always remember he will not burden you with more than you can handle. Stay strong in your faith, your family values and always step out with a positive attitude like my grandfather Ernest did his entire life—good things will come.

The economy may be unsettling, and the drought has more than likely dampened your spirit, but don’t forgo a Junior National or the purchase of a key breeding piece. Look down the road. Don’t dwell on today. I speak from experience, forgoing a few Junior Nationals was one regret I will always live with. You can never get those years back.

Folks, it is time to get excited as we approach 2013. We have seen record female and bull sale averages, unmatched Junior National Show entries, and unprecedented breed excitement across the country. The commercial cattleman and feedlot industries are finally seeing that red-hided cattle do perform, grade and make money in all segments of the industry. The time has never been more perfect to get excited about what quality Hereford cattle can do for you, your neighbors and your customers.
