At HAS, we believe every person is deserving of respect, dignity and care.Come witness how HAS delivers high-quality healthcare to those most in need.
Y ou are cordially invited to experience the rich culture of Haiti and to learn how
Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti (HAS), one of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world, is saving and changing lives.
The founders of HAS, the late Dr. Larry Mellon and Mrs. Gwen Mellon, were so inspired by the work of Nobel Peace Prize-winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer that they determined to devote their lives to helping the world’s most vulnerable improve their health and their lives. Since 1956, HAS has served as a beacon of hope for the community it serves—and indeed for all of Haiti.
Today, HAS provides an integrated network of community-based and hospital-based care in the Lower Artibonite Valley, a rural, impoverished region of Haiti, where subsistence farming drives much of the local economy. Long dedicated to preventive medicine, HAS runs community health initiatives that address the root causes of poor health, through water and sanitation projects, vaccination and nutrition programs, and community health education. Our integrated approach ensures that HAS can positively impact even the most remote, mountainous communities of the Artibonite.
Come and stay at the Mellons’ historic, gracious home, designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, and immerse yourself in the work of HAS—one of the most effective, community-based healthcare systems operating in Haiti.
An itinerary will be developed by your host, customized to
your interests, and will feature dialogue with key HAS leaders
and experts each evening at Mellon House. Following is a
sample itinerary:
Our Hospital, Our History, Our Home
Hospital: A director-led tour of the hospital, including the nutrition
stabilization and neonatal units.

Garden and the orchard, with a chance to spot rare birds and to sample in-
