RDA Authority Records Timeline

• March 31, 2013 is “Day One” for RDA authority records– Only RDA authority records will be added to the

LC/NACO Authority File– All access points in bibliographic records (LC and

PCC libraries) must be created under RDA rules– Bibliographic description can still follow AACR2

Page 34: Changes from AACR2 to RDA

Conversion of the Authority File

• Phase 1 – – Identify records that are likely to be incompatible

with RDA– Programmatic addition to the records: THIS 1XX

FIELD CANNOT BE USED UNDER RDA UNTIL THIS RECORD HAS BEEN REVIEWED AND/OR UPDATED

– These headings will be upgraded over time by LC and NACO participants

Page 35: Changes from AACR2 to RDA

Conversion of the Authority File

• Phase 2– Automated revisions will be made to all appropriate

authority records so they can be coded RDA and redistributed• Spelling out abbreviations• Changing “Selections” to “Works. Selections”• Etc.

– 350,000 records
