According to multiple architect rm, who areredesigning oice space for clients, organisations have started adopting newstandards in designing.

“In present times, there is an imminent needto reinvent the workspace for enhancedproductivity and organizational resiliencywhile ensuring exibility to meet the demandsof the future,” said Sachin Rastogi, FoundingDirector and Principal, ZED Lab.

Firms said that the situation requires practicalsteps such as physical distancing, contactlessapplications and perhaps Work From Home toprotect the employees at oices.

“The aim is to upgrade the existing workplaceinfrastructure to maximize eiciency withminimum employee discomfort, both physicaland psychological,” said Sabarno De, vertical

head, corporate Interiors, Edice ConsultantsPvt. Ltd.

The ‘new normal’ has generated a shift in theway employees are coping with improvisedworkspaces at their homes.

“It is crucial to register that globally corporatedesign will forever be transformed.Interventions such as staggered layouts,sensor-controlled sanitization, foot pedal-controlled doorways, UV-enabled sanitizersand automatic thermal scanning at the entryand exit points etc. are provisions that oicesshould incorporate in their infrastructure,”said Ankura Patel - Co-Founder, Director, ANADesigns Pvt Ltd.

The contemporary era of social-distancing hasseen a drastic decrease in the number ofpeople who work in an oice or corporatespace, with most employees working remotely.

This phenomenon will lead to a sharp declinein the physical infrastructure required forworkspaces and create a demand for a moredistributed model across cities — replacingth t li d i

the centralized oice.

“When you become conscious of somethinglike this pandemic, there will be a change inthe way you program a space. Reducedphysical interaction in oices, touch-freedoors, faucets and WCs will become the norm,”

said Akshat Bhatt, Principal Architect,Architecture Discipline.

Bhatt said that gadgets and devices that werepreviously shared, such as keyboards, mice etc.may not be shared anymore.

“Having worked a full year in the comforts ofhome in this year of pandemic, people havebegun to get habituated to a certain lifestyle.Their workspaces have been an extension oftheir own comfort zone, where everything fromthe desks to the lighting and the seating is setup by them. This will dene a lot of changes inhow the workspaces in the future will be,” saidRachna Agarwal, Founder and Design Ideator,Studio IAAD.
