The Big Fish Grille opened in 2009 by owner John Mathias. John grew up on the east coast and moved to Chi-cago in the 1980’s. He opened the Big Fish to bring some of those favorite eastern delicacies to the midwest.

Fresh seafood is flown in daily. They specialize is Fish, Seafood, Crabs, Lobster, Oysters, Australian Wagyu, Maryland Crab Cakes, Gumbo, Jumbalaya, Steaks and Chops. The menu continually changes with seasonal ingredients. Big Fish offers classic cocktails, martini’s and wine. The Big Fish Late

Night features live music during the summer. They offer custom catering services and host parties at the restaurant.

The Big Fish Grille is located at the Harborside Marina at 27425 South Will Road. From Channahon or Minooka take 55 south to Lorenzo Road west to Will Road (or as many know it the old covered bridge road) and take a right. Follow South Will Road to the end and there you are.

Recently remodeled and landscaped with a new expanded patio, Big Fish opens daily at 11:30 am and is closed on Mondays.

The saying at the Big Fish Grille is “where everyone is a big fish.”

Back in 2006, former gymnast and current owner Julie Tkaczuk wanted to create a facility that would focus on teaching gymnastics, while promoting an active, healthy lifestyle for kids.

So she decided to open I&M Gymnastics in Channa-hon.

From those early beginnings of gymnastics and tum-bling, I&M now offers parent/tot classes, preschool and school age gymnastics and tumbling, cheer, handspring clinics, competitive gymnastics and tumbling, open gym, birthday parties and field trips.

You can also find a fully stocked pro shop at our Chan-nahon location, featuring I&M apparel, leotards, shorts and more.

I&M Gymnastics is located at 24232 Northern Illinois Drive in Channahon. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 4pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 6pm. For additional information, contact Julie at the facility, 815-521-0100 or find them on the web at www.imgymnastics.com

The Village of Minooka is a charming community founded in 1869 along the route of the Rock Island Railroad. Minooka is Pottawatomie for “Good Land.” Transportation has played an important role in the development of the community. More convenient access was made available when Interstate 80 was built in the 1960’s with access ramps to Minooka. According to the 2010 census, the population of Minooka is 10,924. However, residential growth is not the only growth, the commercial and industrial growth has followed the residential boom, providing necessary services, jobs, and a balanced tax base.

In 2006 Nick and Sophia Gkotsis opened Gippers II Sports Club. The former “Power Station” was remodeled and became a beautiful restaurant. Nick and Sophia continued to improve Gippers II with the addition of a banquet room, pavilion and an outdoor patio.

The club now has 11 plasma screen TVs, 3 large screen projectors, 2 pool tables, darts and a very popular DJ booth and dance floor. Karaoke and acoustic solos during the week and live bands or a live DJ every Friday and Saturday provide just some of the entertainment.

Nick and Sophia continue to expand and improve Gippers II, and this summer will have a new outdoor tiki bar and remodeled patio. The restaurant will be opening for breakfast and a new menu is also on the way with gourmet burgers, a larger selection of seafood and specialty sandwiches!

Gippers II Sports Club Restaurant and Banquets is located at 8455 E. Pine Bluff Road in Coal City (from Channahon or Minooka, take I-55 south to Lorenzo Road, exit 240 west for 3 ½ miles and Gippers II is on the left—you can’t miss them). Gippers II is open Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 1am and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2am. For information call (815) 942-8135.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers has been serving the health care needs of Grundy County residents since 1906. Located ap-proximately 10 miles west of Channahon and Minooka, the 89-bed Morris Hospital is known for its compassionate and personal-ized approach to healthcare. This is attributed to the outstanding work of 950 employees, 560 fundraising and service volunteers, and a medical staff of more than 180 physicians representing most medical specialties.

The Emergency Department at Morris Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center, with board-certified emergency medicine physi-cians who are specially trained to evaluate and treat patients during the early, and often most critical stages of an illness or injury.

The Family Birthing Suites at Morris Hos-pital provides the perfect setting for welcom-ing a new baby into your life. As a Level II obstetrical unit, we offer a well-baby nursery, as well as an intermediate care nursery for

infants who need additional medical care.At the Radiation Therapy Center of Mor-

ris Hospital, patients find comfort in having expert cancer care and the very latest tech-nologies close to home.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is also home to a number of skilled heart and vascular specialists who are experts at detect-ing early signs of trouble. Whether a cardio-vascular problem is caused by artery blockages or abnormal heart rhythms, the heart care experts at Morris Hospital offer a wide range of treatment options to help patients regain their health and return to full, productive lives. And when it’s time to start down the road to recovery, patients never have to travel far for an exceptional cardiac rehabilitation program.

Along with these services, Morris Hospital provides a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, a dedicated pediatric unit, advanced diagnos-tic imaging services including a 64-slice CT

scanner, advanced vascular MRI studies and digital mammography, occupational medicine services, pulmonary rehabilitation, and physi-cal, occupational and speech therapy.

Just north of the intersection of Ridge Road and Route 6, residents of Channahon and Minooka have convenient access to the Morris Hospital Ridge Road Campus. Services include immediate care seven days a week, along with laboratory, x-ray, digital mammography, ultrasound, occupational medicine, and pediatric, internal medicine, and family practice physician services.

The Channahon Healthcare Center of Morris Hospital is located just a few miles to the east of the Ridge Road Campus at 25259 Reed Street. Family practice physicians are available at the Channahon Healthcare Center, along with an endocrinologist and rheumatologist.

The office, at 25445 S. Pheasant Lane, Suite I, Channahon, was designed with comfort and modern technology in mind. Instead of having to fill out paperwork in the waiting room, patients have the convenience of completing paperwork online at home or work.

All rooms are equipped with ultra-plush leather massaging chairs so patients can feel as comfortable as possible. All rooms are also equipped with Netflix to keep the patient’s mind off of being at the dentist.

With the use of digital X-rays, the patient is less exposed to radiation and the image quality is far superior to traditional X-rays. In 2013, Dr. Eric Salud plans to continue momentum from 2012 and grow the dental practice’s patient base. It is a family-based dental office managed by Shane Fay and offering services for children to the elderly.

Complete Comfort Dental offers evening hours so the patient does not have to lose time at work or school. It is also one of the only dental offices in town that is in network with most PPO insur-ances, including most of the local union insurances.

For patients who have a dental phobia, the office offers nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas. It also offers Invisalign, which is invisible braces for teenagers and adults.

Also available is Zoom Whitening, the one-hour in-office whitening procedure that can whiten teeth up to seven shades whiter.

With the increased prevalence of oral cancer, Complete Comfort offers an advanced screening to locate oral cancer at its smallest.

“Most importantly, we give individualized care to each of our patients.,” said Dr. Salud. “Each member of our team is trained in lis-tening to the needs of the patient and offering them personalized care using the latest advancements in dental technology.”

For additional information about available services, or to make an appointment, call (815) 828-5355.

CHANNAHON & MINOOKA COMMUNITY GUIDE 27

When Dr. Craig Fox was looking for a community in which to open an office, he felt he could provide a service that wasn’t available to the people of Morris, Channahon/Minooka and the surrounding communities.

He also really liked the people he was meeting there, and thought he would enjoy being a part of the community.

After opening Fox Foot & Ankle in 2008, he moved the practice location in 2009, basically out the back door and across the street!

The move was from 25520 Pheasant Lane, Unit C, to 2081 Ridge Road, Suite 113, both virtually at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Ridge Road.

Fox Foot & Ankle also has offices in Coal City, at 810 E. Divi-sion St., phone (815) 634-2324, and Oswego, at 3963 U.S. 34, phone (630) 551-3338.

Fox’s goals for the upcoming year include continuing to ensure that services are state-of-the-art. Part of his annual education is to attend industry seminars, such as the AAPPM (American As-sociation of Podiatric Practice Management) and IPMA (Illinois Podiatric Medical Association), where emerging techniques and technology in foot care are introduced.

Due to his efforts, Dr. Fox has even been a featured speaker at AAPPM functions.

Dr. Fox’s ongoing shoe drive for the community to collect new and gently used shoes, “Shoe Share,” has been greatly successful to date, with literally hundreds of pairs of shoes being redistributed for those who are struggling to make ends meet.

“Shoe Share” collection boxes are available at each office loca-tion, as well as throughout the community. Contributions being shared with the Kendall County Food Pantry and, as seasonally open, PADS of Illinois Valley.

Another significant change for Fox Foot & Ankle is the addi-tion of new and improved footwear options that provide the best of both worlds - truly appropriate, comfortable support combined with fashionable looks that patients are excited about wearing.

Dr. Fox graduated with his DPM degree (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) from Des Moines University. He completed his residency at Michigan Hospital Medical Center, encompassing back-to-back rotating (through all specialties) and surgical rotations.

He is currently a member of the APMA (American Podiatric Medical Asociation), IPMA (Illinois Podiatric Medical Associa-tion), and the AAPPM (American Association of Podiatric Practice Management).
