Your Channel Master Tape Recorder isa highly sensitive, precision-quality, battery-operated instrument that can be carried and playedanywhere. It is designed to give you a lifetime of fun, pleasure, andpractical use.

You (and your family) can (1) talk, sing, or play an instrumentinto it ... (2) pick up your favorite radio or TV (audio) programs ... (3)eveh reproduee hi-fi records from your own phonograph; then playeverything back, loud and clear, at your convenience.

You can play back this same recorded tape as often as you Wish,or you can -automatically erase the tape and start clean and fresh.You can get up to 60 minutes of playing time on a single tape (bothsides). See section on tapes.

Using this tape recorder is literally child's play-even a youngstercan play it with pushbutton ease.

O_PERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Your unit will operate off of either of the following power supplies:

• Channel Master .AC adapier (ava ilabl e option al eq uiprnent)

• 6 C size catteries

TO LNSERT BATTERIES:1.Tu rn recorder upside down.

2, With a coin leosen battery cover lock (lf4 turn)

3. Pla_ee3·C sIj!e batteries in each plastic tu be, followin g the dIagra In on the

printed sheet in the bottom of the battery case.

4. Insert the loaded tubes as Indicated, on top of plastis tab, leaving a portion 81

excess tab out for subsequent easy removal of batteries.

5. Replace battery cover and lock,

6. To check battery condition:

A. Turn recorder right side up.

B. Press "Play" button

C.. Note "Indicator" on left side o f Control Panel. Needle should be in blue

area () f line marked j'BArr'. If need Ie is in "Red" area a battery or bat-teries may have been inserted impl'operly (reversed), or the batteries

are weak.

TO THREAD TAPE:

1. Open tape cover (Black section hinges)

2. Place empty reel 0 1 1 right hai'1d side

with Side # 1 facln.g up. The numbers

are molded- ln the ree-l and are a con-

venience for identifying you r record-

ings. Place full reel on left side with

# 1 faclng up.

3. Thread as p,er Fig #14. Make one or two turns by hand on the

take up reel to insure- tension. Shiny

TO RECORD BY MICROPHONE:

1 . Plug mike into socket marked mie 011eorrtrol panel of recorder,

2. Set Volume Control on #4 (Temporary setting).

3. To set recordlng level (volume): Depress Remote-Control Button located on

mike and push toward posltlen m_ar-ked OFF. This wilil prevent tape from

recording while setting level (volume) of recording. With the button in the

off position press down Play and Recorrl buttons on control panel srrnulta-

neously. Then check the needle reading on the level Indicator located on the

extreme left of the Control Panel If, with the mike placed in the position you

desire, the voice or music is at the approximate volume at which you wish

to record the need Ie shou Id rerna in in the blue a rea. If It is in red area, correct

by doing one (or a combination) of the following:

A. Adjust volume control knob on front panel.

B . Move mike further away from source.

c. Reduce volume of source,

With a little experience yo u Will become proficient with this adjustment,

4. Release Remote Control button on mike by sliding switch away from "off"

position. The tape will start to move and you are now recording.

5. To stop recording temporarily press Remote Control button as pe r #3. When

finished recording press "Stop" button.

TO PLAY BACK~

Push Rewind button to rewind the amount of tape you wis,h to play back, thenpress "Stop" button. Then press "Play" button. Machine wil l now play back

reeordlng. If private listening Is desired simply plug [n Earphone (provided) to

"Monitor" socket. This will automatically cut out tape recorder speaker,

CAUTION: When recording, you automatically erase what has been previously

recorded on that portion of the tape on which you are currently recording.

Therefore-unless it is your intention to erase previously recorded material-

keep pushing "Rew"(rewihd)and "Play" buttons alternately, to find exact

point on tape at which you desire to record. While using Play and ReWind

buttons be sure to press "Stop" button between changes of direction.

FWD-(Forward) button rapidly advances tape in same direction as "Play"

but without sound.

TO RECORD DIRECTLY:

(Radio, Phonograph, Television, HiFi) Re-

move microphone if connected. Put plug

from Audio Cable (pr.ovided) in "Radio"

socket located on Control Panel of tape re o

corder. Attach other end to speaker terminals

(as per Fig 2) of Radio, TV etc. Push down

trol to obtain proper leveL Playback on dired recording is same as previously-

described.

TO RECORD FROM TELEPHONE:

To record both ends of a telephone con-

versation place plug from telephone pick-

up (provided) In socket marked Mic,

place suction cup 01 pickup coil on ear-

piece of telephone and follow normal

recarding procedure. FIG.3

TO CHANGE TAPES:

Your tape recorder is equipped with a two track recording head, therefore you

are using one-half of the tapa width at a time. After recortling one side, the reels

can be turned over to side #2, rethreaded and further recording made. The

system is similar to spool type 8mm movie cameras.

T APE T YPES:

1. Your tape recorder is designed to Use (and is provided with two) 31 4 " reels.

2. Tapes for use with this machine are available in various thicknesses and

materials. Generally speaking t hee t h lcker the tape, the fewer amount of

feet on a reel, and thus less playing time per reel. The chart below will

provide a guide in selecting tape thickness.

Tapes are played on both halves, therefore doubling above playing time of

tape.

T AP E SP EE D

Your tape recorder is designed for two speeds: 3 % inches per second (IPS)

and 17'8 IPS. The faster speed (3%) is primarily used in recording music.

The slower speed is primarily used tG pick up lectures, conversations, etc.

TO CHANGE TAP'ESPE.ED:

Lift panel covering reels" Remove meta I sleeve from capstan (Fi~ I) to

change speed to 1% IPS. Replace metal sleeve on capstan for 3 % IPS. The

metal sleeve is removed by simply pulling straight up. The split-pin lecsted

above the reels (FIg. 1) is ftlr storing the metal sleeve when recording at

1 a IPS.

TO MEND A BROKEN TAPE:

FOOTAGE INDICATOR:

on reels. The markings are in percentage of a fun reel-thu·s 10 squals a

full reel and 6 equals 60%, etc.

TO ATTACH CARRYING STRAP:

1. Place large section of hole in clasp of strap over protrudihg stud in

recorder. (Fig 5).

2. Use force to press in and slide toward small end of hole. (Fig 6).

OPERATING HINTS

L TO CHECK BAT TERY CONDITION

Press "Play" button and read "Bate' section of level' Indicator. The

needle should be in the blue- area tor correct operation. Nee<lle in red

The Channel Mast,er #15592 AC. adapter ls. recommended. This will

enable the machine to run on normal house current. This optional piece

of equipment is available at your Channel Master Dealer.

3. FO R B EST F IDELITY

Erase pre_viously recorded ta pes before 'record ing. Remove rni ke, tu rI1

volume off. P'l"ess Play and Record buttons, run tape completely thru

machine. Tape is now absolutely clear.

4. When storing recorder for a long period of time or u~ing ACadapter

c:ontinuously-remove batteries, as even the best batterles will deteri-

orate in t ime and cause damage to the recorder,

5. It is a good practice to clean the tape heads occasionally with "Tape

head cleaner' av a ilable at you r dee ler (see Fig 1).

6.To prevent damage to the

motor,always use

"Stop"button before

changing direction of tapes-thus USe "Stop" before changihg from

"FWD" to dREW" etc.

7. Whenever listening to a recording be sure: you do not have the silver

"Rsc" button depressed as this will automatic::ally erase the current

recorotng,
