The Chaos Astartes are but one menace among the countless stars in the heavens that hang over Azyrheim. They know not of Sigmar and his crusade to retake the Realms. For millennia, their fleets have ventured through the Eye of Terror, from the Realm of Chaos to wreak bloody havok on the Imperium of Man. At first a trickle, the denizens of the far reaches of Azyr are becoming awakened to the Realms beneath them. The Realmgates are stirring from their slumber. The highly advanced armies of Azyr have been dragged into Sigmar’s war against the Gods of Chaos. In the grim darkness of Azyr there can be only war!

mong the stars of Azyr, another

emperor wages another war for the soul of mankind.

Battle Traits Armies with the Chaos Astartes allegiance have the following abilities. Eye of the Gods: Chaos Space Marines battle to earn the favor of the dark gods. Any who excel and show their worth in glorious battle may be chosen to ascend to daemonhood. When a Chaos Astartes Hero from your army slays an enemy Hero, roll a dice. On a result of 6 or higher, you may replace them with a Daemon Prince. On a result of 1 or lower, replace they with a Chaos Spawn instead. Chapter Tactics: Most Chaos Space Marines are from one of the traitor legions of the first founding. After set-up, inform your opponent which of the legions yours are from and gain the corresponding abilities.

Emperor’s Children: Your Astartes units gain the Slaanesh keyword and may shoot even if they ran in the same turn. Iron Warriors: Your Astartes units gain the Ferrous keyword and re-roll to hit rolls of 1 while they are in cover. Night Lords: Your Astartes units gain the Chiropteran keyword. When your Astartes units roll to charge, roll an additional dice and drop the lowest one. World Eaters: Your Astartes units gain the Khorne keyword and add 1 to their rolls to wound if they charged in the same turn. Death Guard: Your Astartes units gain the Nurgle keyword. When your Astartes unit would suffer a non-mortal wound, roll a dice. On a result of 6, that wound is ignored.

Thousand Sons: Your Astartes units gain the Tzeentch keyword. Your Astartes Heroes gain the Psyker and Wizard keywords and the ability to cast the Psychic Bolt and Mystic Shield psychic powers. Black Legion: Your Astartes units gain the Black Crusaders keyword and add 1 to their rolls for the Eye of the Gods ability. Word Bearers: Your Astartes units gain the Iconoclast keyword. Enemy units within 3” of your Astartes units subtract 1 from their Bravery. Alpha Legion: Your Astartes units gain the Legionnaire keyword. During set-up, you may place one of your units anywhere on the battlefield that is not within 3” of an enemy unit.

Command Traits In addition to their command abilities, the general of a Chaos Astartes army can have a command trait from the list below. Pick the trait that best suits your general’s personality. Alternatively, you can roll a dice to randomly determine a trait. If, for any reason, you must select a new general during a battle, immediately generate a trait for them. D6 Command Trait 1 Dark Heretic: Many Chaos Space

Marines are still tortured by the events of the Heresy.

Your General and your Chaos Astartes

units within 10” add 1 to their rolls to hit enemies with the Imperium keyword.

2 Corpulence: Their bulk grants them

added defense.

Add 1 to the general’s Wounds characteristic.

D6 Command Trait 3 Coruscating Warp Flames: The

general is wreathed in chaotic flames that scorch the flesh of nearby enemies.

At the start of your hero phase, roll a dice for each enemy unit within 3” of your general. If the result is 6 or higher, the unit suffers D3 mortal wounds.

4 Unfettered Rage: The general is

fueled by an unholy rage and the need for bloodshed.

The general and your units within 10” add 3 to their charge rolls.

D6 Command Trait 5 Merciless Slaughter: The Chaos

Astartes have been marauding for thousands of years; if they ever had a conscience, it is long dead now.

After the first time one of your units piles in and attacks during the combat phase each turn roll a dice. If the result is 6 or higher, they may immediately pile in and attack again.

6 Daemonic Possession: One of the

many ways daemons travel from the realm of Chaos into Azyr is through possession of a willing host.

When your general rolls a 6 or higher for the Eye of the Gods ability, you may replace them with any Daemon Hero model instead of a Daemon Prince.

Bio-Artefacts Any Chaos Astartes Hero may be given one of the following Cursed Artefacts. D6 Artefact 1 Daemon Eye Bolter: These strange

boltguns have grown grotesque eyes that guide the shots for greater accuracy.

When the bearer rolls a 6 or higher

on a ranged weapon attack with their Bolter or Bolt Pistol, the target suffers a single mortal wound before rolling to wound.

2 Trophy Rack: Many champions of

chaos wear the skulls of their enemies into battle on a trophy rack.

Whenever an enemy unit tests for battleshock within 6” of the bearer, they roll two dice and discard the lower roll.

D6 Artefact 3 The Murdersword: The

Murdersword’s unquenchable thirst for killing has made it a legend among the dark gods’ followers.

At the start of the battle, choose one enemy Hero. The bearer may re-roll failed rolls to hit and to wound against the chosen Hero.

4 Axe of Blind Fury: While the rage

inducing enchantments placed on this venerable axe do not help attacks find their targets, they do help them cut deeper.

Choose one of the bearer’s melee weapons to be the Axe of Blind Fury. Add 1 to wound rolls made for the chosen weapon.

D6 Artefact 5 Scrolls of Magnus: These scrolls were

written by Magnus the Red, primarch of the Thousand Sons.

During the hero phase, the bearer casts a randomly selected psychic power from the Hereticus Discipline. It is cast automatically without a casting roll and cannot be unbound.

6 Brand of Skalathrax: Kharn the

Betrayer used this very flamer during Horus Heresy.

During the shooting phase, you may choose an enemy unit within 6” of the bearer and roll a dice. On a result of 4 or higher, the unit suffers D3 mortal wounds.

Cursed Artefacts Chaos Astartes

Hereticus Discipline Each Psyker in an Chaos Astartes army knows one additional psychic power chosen from the Hereticus Discipline. Pick one that best matches the background of your psyker or warband. Alternatively, you can roll a dice to randomly determine which extra power is known to the psyker. Note that each Psyker model in an Chaos Astartes army can know a different spell. If you prefer, you can instead generate (pick or roll) one spell that will be known by all your Chaos Astartes Psykers. D6 Psychic Power 1 Diabolic Strength 2 Profane Ruination 3 Worldwrithe 4 Soulswitch 5 Fleshmetal Hide 6 Dark Summoning

1 Diabolic Strength Diabolic Strength has a casting value of 5. If successfully cast, choose a unit from within 18” of the caster. The chosen unit adds 1 to their rolls to wound until your next hero phase. However, each time the unit rolls a 6 or higher to wound, it suffers a single mortal wound.

2 Profane Ruination Profane Ruination has a casting value of 8. If successfully cast, choose a piece of terrain within 18” of the caster. Each unit with at least one model in the terrain piece suffers D3 mortal wounds. Then, the terrain piece is removed (or you could replace it with a pile or rubble or crater if you have one).

3 Worldwrithe Worldwrithe has a casting value of 7. If successfully cast, tentacles sprout from the earth, writhing to catch their prey. Place a marker on the battlefield within 18”. The area within 6” of the marker is Deadly terrain until your next hero phase.

4 Soulswitch Soulswitch has a casting value of 6. If successfully cast, choose a Hero model within 18” of the caster. The caster and the chosen Hero model switch positions.

5 Fleshmetal Hide Fleshmetal Hide has a casting value of 5. If successfully cast, choose one unit within 18”. The chosen unit adds 1 to its save rolls, but may not move in any way until your next hero phase.

6 Dark Summoning Dark Summoning has a casting value of 7. If successfully cast, each unit (friend or foe) within 6” of the caster suffers D3 mortal wounds. Then, you may place any Daemon Hero onto the battlefield as long as it has a Wounds characteristic lower than the total number of mortal wounds inflicted by this psychic power. The Daemon Hero must be placed within 18” of the caster, but not within 3” of any enemy models.
