  • King Slayer detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries Deceptive guise When using other detachments or formations, you may treat Armies of the Imperium as allies of convenience. Models in this detachment gain Stealth. The many-headed If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ Alpha legion are pretty much impossible to do properly within the chaos codex we have. So, it would be nice to play with other factions more or less normally without causing too much of a headache. Army wide stealth isnt that big of a deal when your average save is 3+. But it suits them well enough and I guess its a buff for tanks. Then again, it has somehow saved me a few times during night fighting. _________ Masters of Deception - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord, Chaos Sorcerer or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Seed of Rebellion After deployment, but before Scout redeployments and Infiltrate deployment, you may redeploy up to d3 units, including your opponents. They must retain their facing. Restriction: Unless they are your own units, you may not place them in or out of reserve. _________ I feel like Ive seen this rule before , but I cant find it. Weaker than the other formations in combat but you get to mess with your opponents head. _________ Unseen Defilers- Core (1+)

Its a trap! Chaos Space Marines in this formation may consolidate d6 in any direction instead of firing Overwatch. Restrictions: none _________ My group doesnt use fortifications, but many people do. And with the new plasma obliterator I can see Master of Sabotage causing some nasty surprises. Darkstrider-light for Marines. Get some difficult terrain in between you and a potential assaulter and light them up next turn or assault yourself. It just helps to control the battle that little bit more. Warpsmith tax. I didnt know what else to give them but he at least has some sabotage flair built in already. _________ Perfidious Scalpel - auxiliary 2-4 units of Chaos Chosen 0-2 units of Chaos Havocs Vicious Blow Models in this formation gain Sniper.

    none _________ I cant give extra ammo and the likes but sniper sort of emulates that. But its as much a buff as it is a curse. Autocannons become hilariously overly manly sniper rifles, but theyre only going to wound on a 4+. Melta and plasma become ...weird, flamers are suddenly poisonous(4+), heavy bolters...well..you get the picture. I have honestly no idea how this will impact the game, but it REALLY changes how these units play. _________ Executioners Hand - auxiliary 2-3 units of Chaos Chosen 0-2 units of Chaos Raptors Treachery Abound Chaos Chosen in this formation gain Infiltrate. Restrictions: Only up to three units of Chaos Chosen may gain Infiltrate, regardless of how many Executioners Hand formations you are using. _________ I cant mess with the warlord trait, but I can give chosen old school infiltrate. I limit it to three, because thats how it used to be and if I dont you would see entire armies of infiltrating chosen. You could still get up 3 more with the trait. Forgeworld alpha legion can infiltrate their entire army but I dont see GW doing that. Im also not sure how I feel about that lol. _________ Poisoned Blade- auxiliary 1-3 Units of Chaos Space Marines 0-2 units of Chaos Bikes Enemy Unseen Models in this formation may accept challenges. Restrictions: none. _________ You never know who youre dealing with when fighting alpha legion and theyre all self sufficient.

  • Black Crusade detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries The Long War

    Models in this detachment gain preferred enemy( Space Marines ) Models in this detachment gain Hatred( Space Marines) Blackest Heart If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Black Legion warlord trait table. _________ Might be a bit strong against marines, especially in combinations with the Warmaster's Chosen buffs.But then youre mostly going to bring footslogging marines and chosen so maybe it has its place. Your also losing ObSec. The Black Legion table since these guys actually have a supplement. Hatred is still useful, since now your vehicles also get it. _________ Bringers of Despair - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord (this may be Abaddon the Despoiler) or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Death incarnate Models in this formation wearing terminator armour may perform a sweeping advance. Chaos Terminators in this formation have +1 WS and +1 BS. restriction: Chaos Terminators in this formation must be upgraded at the cost of +6 points per model. _________ Bringers of despair are expensive, but it's what the supplement gave us. They would cut down the enemy completely even pre heresy, so sweeping advance makes sense and helps when not going against marines. _________

  • Warmaster's Chosen - Core (1+) 1 HQ from this list - Chaos Lord - Chaos Sorcerer - Dark Apostle - Daemon prince 2-8 units of Chaos Space Marines or Chosen in any combination 1-3 units of Chaos Terminators 0-2 units of Chaos Bikers 0-2 units of Chaos Raptors Merciless As long as a unit from this formation has more friendly models than enemy models locked in combat (including unengaged models) at the beginning of the fight sub-phase,that unit gains +1A. Hell Fire As long as units from this formation do not move in their movement phase, Boltguns in that unit gain 1 additional shot at either full or half range. (including combi-bolters and the boltgun part of combi weapons). Blackest Heart If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Black Legion warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ Merciless and Hell Fire, together will promote bringing large blobs of marines. Hell Fire helps to mitigate that you have 20 marines just sitting on an objective. Maybe that should be minimum 4 units, but hopefully Merciless is tempting enough to forgo MSU shenanigans. Terminator Tax. I think they fit the legion, but you have better termies in the Dark Heart formation and the Marines will outshine these termies if used in the same role. _________ Dark Heart - auxiliary 1-4 units of Chaos Terminators 2 Chaos Sorcerers

  • Cut out the Heart Terminator units in this formation roll one die for arriving from reserves. As long as both sorcerers are on the table, units from this formation arriving via via deepstrike may re-roll the scatter dice. Restrictions: none _________ One of their things is deepstrike assaults, cutting of the head. This seems fluffy and we already use terminators in a similar fashion. This just makes them better at it.Safe Deepstriking is not going to happen imho, so that's the next best thing. _________ Harbingers - auxiliary 1-2 Defilers 0-1 Helbrute Units in this formation gain Rage. Restrictions: none _________ Black legion probably has the oldest Defilers around, and more older Helbrutes than other warbands. Makes sense that they would be insane with Rage. Plus its nice to have some certainty with helbrutes. _________ Tyrant's grip - auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Bikers 0-2 units of Chaos Raptors 0-1 Heldrake Units from this formation gain Outflank. Restrictions: none _________ The sons of horus rite of battle, promoted having more fast attack than heavies. This gives them some extra flexibility _________

  • Destruction Cult - auxiliary 0-2 units of Obliterators 0-2 units of Mutilators _________ For no other reason than that they should be available. _________ War Machines - auxiliary 1 of the following list - Chaos Land Raider - Chaos Predator - Chaos Vindicator - Forgefiend - Maulerfiend - Helbrute - Heldrake - Chaos Havocs _________ To fill up any remaining slots with vehicles of your choice. And Havocs because I didn't know where else to put them. _________

  • Nurgles Embrace detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries Virulent Characters in this detachment may take Blight Grenades...5 pts. Weapons that use the flamer template gain poisoned(4+). Pallid Death If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ Instead of flamers they would spray some kind of flesh dissolving bile, that seeps into the crevices of armour. Nobody does grisly trophies quite like the Death Guard, but too few can actually take blight grenades by default. _________ Emissaries of Pestilence - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord, Chaos Sorcerer (this may be Typhus) or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Avatar of Death Characters in this Formation gain It Will Not Die. Restriction: none _________ Instant kill is still the main threat, but for everything else IWND should really give off that nurgle vibe along with the mark. Might make the palanquin an interesting choice too. _________ Plaguebringers - Core (1+) 1 HQ from this list - Chaos Lord - Chaos Sorcerer - Warpsmith - Daemon prince

Sons of Barbarus Plague Marines in this formation gain Feel No Pain(4+). Pallid Death If this Formation is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ Old school feel no pain. I think it suits plague marines better. Terminator tax. From what I gathered Death Guard seem to use a lot of terminators too, so this makes them useful outside of a land raider. Not sure how useful exactly though, considering most things will move faster. Except for other termies and plague marines. We dont get storm shields but a 3+ cover save might be nice for creeping death termies. Plaguewing? :O _________ Remorseless Assault - auxiliary 2-4 units of Chaos Chosen 0-2 units of Chaos Havocs Eternal Warfare Models in this formation firing weapons with the Gets Hot special rule re-roll failed saving throws for Wounds inflicted upon themselves as a result of the Gets Hots special rule. Restrictions:

  • Using mostly special weapons their havocs were pretty much reduced to plasma, flamer and melta and with their increased toughness plasma seems like the next best choice if you cant use all the cool heresy era toys. Though I fail to see how nurgle cant come up with chem/rad weapon equivalents. forge worlds or not. _________ Creeping Death - auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Terminators 0-2 units of Mutilators Aura of Pestilence Models in base contact with Chaos Terminators in this Formation are treated as having their toughness decreased by 1. Restrictions: none. _________ This will cause power mauls to instagib T4 models, but then theyre only AP4 and there aren't really that many models that would suffer too much from this.I think. Not sure how rad grenades are written but it should probably be the same rule. _________ Nurgles Blight - auxiliary 2-3 Chaos Sorcerers. 0-2 Daemon Princes Gifts of Contagion Psykers in this Formation may generate their powers from the Discipline of Nurgle instead of any other discipline. Restrictions: none _________ Nurgle isnt stingy like that. Anybody is free to join the club. _________ Poison Storm - auxiliary

  • Voracious Host detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries Sensory Overload Models in this detachment gain Crusader. Models in this detachment gain Night Vision. Cacophony If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ I would have preferred acute Senses for obvious reasons. Too bad it's completely useless for chaos Space marines since nothing can outflank. Counter Attack was a contender, since youre not likely to get the jump on a space marine with vastly improved senses. Don't know how to balance that though, it would be really strong given the overall high initiative. And so it became crusader, being high as a kite and generally pushing their bodies to the limit. And night vision as an alternative to acute senses. _________ Lords of PLeasure - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord (this may be Lucius the Eternal), Chaos Sorcerer or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Sinister Glee Models in this Formation gain Precision Strike. Restriction: none _________ They were excellent fighters, which I now see as toying with their prey. _________ Ravenous pack - Core (1+)

Booming Wails Sonic blasters and Blastmasters in this Formation gain Strikedown. Cacophony If this Formation is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ Giving Sonic blasters pinning seemed a bit much. Strikedown works quite well for sound though as it hits even through armour saves. Crusader should offer somewhat reliable run moves. Maybe they could get fleet on top of run and charge. I see them running before sitting empty in a transport. Crusader and high initiative should go along well in combat. Run and Shoot might be cool too, getting their auditory fix lol. And then run and charge for world eaters? Possessed tax. Daemons offer a whole new world of sensations...I imagine. _________ Aberrant Seekers - auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Spawns 0-3 units of Chaos Possessed Twisted Rapture Chaos Possessed in this Formation gain Daemon of Slaanesh.

  • Restrictions: Chaos Possessed in this formation may only take a Mark of Slaanesh instead of any other Mark. _________ I felt I had to put a tax on that with chaos spawn. When they do it in the inevitable Slaanesh Daemonkin they will get a small tax too. Rending and extra 3" run as well as crusader, on top of 5 initiative and the buffs....seems pretty nasty to me. Not to mention feel no pain if you get the banner. _________ Prowler Pack - auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Bikers 0-2 units of Chaos Spawn Imminent Feast Chaos Bikers in this Formation gain Skilled Rider. Restrictions: none. _________ They always had a thing for bikes, so I figured they'd be pretty good at driving them. _________ Rising Horrors - auxiliary 0-3 units of Chaos Raptors 0-2 units of Warp Talons Restrictions: none _________ I imagine they have a bunch of marines that would seek a different perspective. _________

  • Black Maidens - auxiliary 1-2 Chaos Sorcerers Profane Allure Chaos Sorcerers in this formation may re-roll one roll on the Discipline of Slaanesh. Restrictions: none _________ I can't give Havocs blast masters but I can allow more symphony of pain to make noise marines hit like a truck. _________ War Machines - auxiliary 1 of the following list - any Heavy Support - Heldrake - Helbrute - Chaos Terminators - Chaos Mutilator _________ To fill up any remaining slots with vehicles of your choice. _________

  • Siege Breaker detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries The Bitter End Models in this detachment gain Stubborn. Unless they have the Daemonic Possession Special rule, models in this detachment gain Slow and Purposeful . They may still fire Overwatch if they would normally be able to do so. Iron Within If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ Army wide slow and purposeful might be too strong, but on the flip side youre not going anywhere. Every other unit can catch up with your stuff and it could be a real handicap in maelstrom missions. (which I play exclusively)You also can't sweep with anything short of daemon engines. Not being able to overwatch either seemed a bit harsh. Not sure about that. _________ Lords of Ruin - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord or 1 Daemon Prince 1 Chaos Sorcerer 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Unholy Vigour The Chaos Sorcerer may re-roll once on the Biomancy Table. restriction: The Chaos Sorcerer must roll at least once on the Biomancy Table. _________ Not sure what to do with the command slot. Straight up feel no pain seems too good. This is still good but really expensive. Especially if you want to mark them. _________

  • Cold Warriors - Core (1+) 1 HQ from this list - Chaos Lord - Chaos Sorcerer - Warp Smith - Daemon prince 2-8 units of Chaos Space Marines or Chaos Cultists in any combination 1-3 Helbrutes 0-2 units of Chaos Havocs 0-2 units of Chaos Chosen Cannon Fodder When a unit of Chaos Cultists loses its last model, roll a die. On a 4+, at the beginning of your next turn, a new unit of Cultists comes in from your board edge exactly as though it had been in reserve. It has the same options and number of models as the unit that was destroyed. Slow Death All Rhinos in this formation gain Extra Armour and passengers may reroll any leadership test they are forced to take as a result from their transport taking damage. Iron Within If this Formation is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ I don't actually know how cannon fodder works for other armies, so if this is too convoluted, let me know. I was thinking of what conscripts(?) did for IG. Slow Death ensures your marines keep firing even when the vehicle is shaken. I'm sure there are better ways to represent the constant pounding of (heavy) guns though. Helbrute tax. Slow and purposeful makes them even worse than usual, so you kinda want to make them ranged. (bonus points if you house rule these and the cultists to use the Helcult formation rules ) _________ Spite cult - auxiliary 2-4 units of Chaos Havocs 0-1 Predators Malefic Ammunition

  • When rolling to wound, heavy bolters in this formation gain Rending. Units in this Formation gain Tank hunter Restrictions: none _________ Straight from forge world. If anybody should get malefic ammo its these guys. When rolling to wound only, since that prevents using rending on vehicles. Rending plus Tank hunter is too strong on havocs. _________ Fiery End - auxiliary 1-3 Vindicators 1-2 Warpsmiths Coward's End One piece of terrain may be shattered twice. Restrictions: Only one piece of terrain may be chosen, regardless of how many Fiery End formations you are using. _________ My group rarely if ever uses paid terrain, so this is relevant. Not sure how this holds up in the wild. _________ Blood Pack - auxiliary 0-3 Forgefiends 0-3 Maulerfiends 0-2 Heldrake Restrictions: none _________ Nothing Special here. They simply have a lot of them. Unless you can think of an appropriate bonus. _________ Destruction Cult - auxiliary

  • 0-2 units of Obliterators 0-2 units of Mutilators Curse of Iron Units in this Formation gain Feel No Pain. _________ Not sure what else to give them. I never use them. _________ War Machines - auxiliary 1 of the following list - Chaos Land Raider - Chaos Predator - Chaos Vindicator - Defiler - Helbrute - Chaos Terminators _________ To fill up any remaining slots with vehicles of your choice. And Terminators because I didn't know where else to put them. _________

  • Terror Assault detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries Born of Darkness Non-Vehicle Models in this detachment gain Hit and Run. Models in this detachment gain Night Vision. Ave Dominus Nox If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ Seemed like appropriate rules for the army to have. I chose Hit and Run over Fear because I think it better represents how they fight. _________ Lords of Darkness- Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord or 1 Chaos Sorcerer 1 unit of Chaos Terminators or Chaos Raptors Fear made Flesh Models in this Formation gain Fear. Characters in this Formation may purchase a Doom Siren for 15 points in addition to any other equipment they have. Restriction: none _________ Lots of their fluff has them using vox channels and such to hurt or kill people with scary sounds. Doom sirens fit the bill. _________ Night Stalkers - Core (1+)

Lurking Dread Chaos Cultists in this Formation gain Scout. Ave Dominus Nox If this Formation is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ There are lots of pictures featuring raptors with bolters. And it goes well with hit n run. Saw some fluff about them flushing out all the cults n prisoners before attacking so I gave cultists scout. Should help tie up the scary stuff while you hunt down the weaker troops with the bolter raptors. Warp Talon tax. Good but soooo expensive. _________ Terror Gang - auxiliary 2-4 units of Chaos Raptors 0-2 units of Warp Talons 0-2 units of Terminators On the hunt

  • Units in this Formation that deepstrike within 6" of a unit that is locked in combat do not scatter. Restrictions: none _________ Remember the scouting cultists. Locked in combat stops you from deepstriking behind tanks. Unit allows you to deepstrike behind the enemy unit. I thought 6" of a friendly unit would be too tight for that. _________ Swift Hunters- auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Bikers 0-2 units of Chaos Chosen No Prisoners Units in this Formation gain Outflank. Restrictions: none. _________ Figured if everybody is looking for threats from the skies, the specialists and bikes could sneak in unnoticed. Take out anybody trying to flee. _________ Biting Shadows - auxiliary 1-3 units of Chaos Havocs 0-2 Predators Shadows of Death Units in this Formation gain Stealth. Restrictions: none _________ I would have preferred Shrouded, but I feel that might be a bit much. Especially on Havocs.

And Terminators because I didn't know where else to put them. _________

  • Dark Harbingers detachment 1 core 0-1 command 1-10 auxiliaries Ghostly Demise Models in this detachment gain Soulblaze on all attacks. Models in this detachment gain Adamantium Will. All is Dust If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ Ghostly fire is pervasive in their lore in one form or another, therefore Soulblaze. They should be dominating the psychic phase, so Adamantium Will. _________ Lords of Change- Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord, Ahriman or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators The Rubric of Ahriman Chaos Lords in this Formation are Psykers (Mastery Level 1).

    They may take up to 2 additional Mastery Levels..25 pts/level. Psykers in this Formation generate their powers from the Biomancy,

    Pyromancy,Telepathy, Divination, Daemonology and Telekinesis disciplines. Restriction: Psykers in this formation may only take a Mark of Tzeentch instead of any other Mark. Daemon Princes instead may only be upgraded to be a daemon of Tzeentch instead of any other daemon. _________ TSons lords should have mastered combat as well as psychic powers by now. Alternatively, Ahriman/prince finally gets divination. _________ Rubricae - Core (1+)

    Aspiring Sorcerers in this Formation may generate their powers from the Pyromancy discipline instead of any other discipline. Unholy Spectres Thousand Sons in this Formation gain Shrouded. All is Dust If this Formation is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. Restrictions: none _________ Apparently TSons Raptors is a thing Oo. Shrouded because they are hard to damage, but once the armour is shattered theyre toast. Also I like how some artwork gives them a ghost like flickering. Lots of people complain about the tzeentch powers, so I let them pick pyromancy, also because of Pyrae libbies. And fireshield isnt wasted with shrouded. Cultist tax. As far as i can tell thousand sons would still use spire guard equivalents. poor excuse for chaos guard but its the closest thing we have. You could always come up with house rules here to use the forgeworld renegades instead. _________ Malevolent Ravens - auxiliary 1-3 units of Thousand Sons 0-3 units of Chaos Chosen Dark Pact Aspiring Sorcerers in this Formation may generate their powers from the Divination or Telekinesis discipline instead of any other discipline.

The air is literally filled with daemons. Old school icons to encourage demon spam, its what they do. And no renegades because the supplement is nice for word bearers, except for that stupid rule. Fear suits them better than night lords imho. Night lords invoke terror by their actions, these guys are certified crazy marching up, flesh-warping daemons in their ranks, whispers on the air and the certainty that theres nothing you can do to stop them short of their complete annihilation, lest you be sacrificed to the dark gods body and soul. _________ Scions of Chaos - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord, Dark Apostle or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Possessed Gal Vorbak Units in this detachment may re-roll the result on the Slaves to the Voices table or the Vessels of Chaos Table.

  • It was either re-roll or turn the lord into a dark apostle. Re-rolling kinda fits that role too, as it represents a lord so steeped in daemonology/sermons that he can redirect their mutations/focus to better suit the needs at hand. _________ Zealous Host- Core (1+) 1 HQ from this list - Chaos Lord - Chaos Sorcerer - Dark Apostle - Daemon prince 2-8 units of Chaos Cultists or Possessed in any combination 1-3 units of Warp Talons 0-2 units of Chaos Space Marines 0-2 units of Chaos Spawn Rabble Rouser At the beginning of the psychic phase, Dark apostles in this formation generate two warp charges per friendly cultist squad still on the table. No turning back Each time a unit of Chaos Cultists in this formation fails a Pinning, Fear, Regroup test or Morale check, they instead pass that test or check and take d3 casualties randomly allocated with no saves of any kind allowed. Restrictions: none _________ They may treat their cultists as cannon fodder, but they are nonetheless fanatically devoted to chaos. The sheer amount of chanting will weaken the borders between reality and the warp. 1 charge was not enough 2 seems a lot until you realize you still need a sorcerer with high level and cant actually cast more spells with all the warp charges. Still encourages lots of cultists though as its slightly cheaper and you get free bodies along with the levels. And your apostle

  • Loyalists only have ATSKNF because of Lorgar. The word bearers elite worship VERY real gods. And they have seen the consequences of failure first hand. Testing their faith only results in : HERESY! *BLAM*. When allocating wounds from overwatch, you may allocate to models from the back instead of the front. Martial Pride If this is your primary detachment, you may reroll the result when rolling on the Chaos space Marine warlord trait table. _________ The lore always has them jumping over barricades and all kinds of stuff while charging at the enemy. Move through cover seemed fitting and helps get into assault. Allocating to the back means you can have your characters fittingly leading the charge without risk of them eating a bullet to the face and helps you make that charge again. Fluff wise they might be throwing their comrades aside or going right through/over them. World Eaters arent the most brotherly of bands. _________ Warlords of Butchery - Command (0-1) 1 Chaos Lord(this may be Kharn the Betrayer) or Daemon Prince 1 unit of Chaos Terminators Pact of Blood Characters in this Formation gain Rampage. Doesnt replace a proper codex entry, but it works. Since GW decided not to include vets into the daemonkin codex they cant afford to just loose units. Maulerfiend tax.
