Rizal as Student
The education of Rizal started at home with his mother his first teacher. He started his formal education in Binan and later to Manila and abroad. The educational system of the Philippines during the Spanish period was different. From what we have now. The Bachelor of Arts during the time of Rizal is equivalent to the four year secondary or High School level. Our education today is complicated than during the time of Rizal.
ENROLLMENT AT ATENEO
When Rizal Enters Ateneo… June 10, 1872-accompanied by
paciano He took the entrance examinations
at the College of San Juan de Letran which was first wish by his father but change to Ateneo instead.

LATE REGISTRATION SICKLY AND UNDERSIZED FOR HIS
AGE
JESUIT SYSTEM OF EDUCATION More advance than that of other
colleges in that period. Trained the students by rigid
discipline and religious instruction, promoted physical culture, humanities and scientific studies.
Years in Ateneo… 1st year in Ateneo (1872-1873) Fr. Bech- His first professor. Won religious picture as a prize and it was
his first prize. Took spanish language in Sta. Isabel
Collage Second place at the end of the year.
2nd year in Ateneo Received excellent grades and a gold
medal. Returned to Calamba in March 1874 for his
summer vacation.
3rd year (1874-1875) His grade remain excellent in all
subjects but he won only 1 medal- in Latin.
4rth year in Ateneo(1875-1876) Rizal went back to manila for his 4th
year course. On june 14, 1875, he became an internee in the Ateneo. One of his professors this time was Fr. Francisco Sanchez, who inspired him to study harder and write poetry. Rizal considered Fr. Sanchez his most beloved professor in Ateneo. Rizal won 5 gold medals at the end of the year.
Rizal wasted no single moment as a student. While taking course Philosophy and Letters at UST he crossed enrolled at the Sta. Isabel Collage. His grade were excellent and he finishes his studies at a young age. Rizal is something extraordinary.

Dapitan he constructed a water system that supplied the whole town with potable water.
NaturalistHe collects and studies specimens like
plats and animals. ArcheologistHe discovered several relics that
belonged to the Chinese merchant of the Sung Dynasty in Dapitan.
Agriculturist PhilologistHe skilled 22 languages. InventorInvented a cigarette lighter called
sulpukan. And he manufacture 6,000 bricks daily.
SportsmanRizal was expert in swimming, fencing, and
wrestling and rowing. MagicianRizal was good in magic he amuse his
sisters and friends and with his skillful tricks. He continued his interest in magic in Europe.
