• Watson is interrogating Mrs. Lyons about the letter “ And why are you so pressing that Sir Charles should destroy your letter ”( Conan Doyle 106). Watson is feeling suspicious towards Mrs. Lyons.

• Laura Lyons is telling Doctor Watson why she would have written the letter because, “ I knew Sir Charles’s generosity, and I thought that if he heard the story from my own lips he would help me” ( Conan Doyle 107).
