Chapter 27

It was the weekend before examination week and I know I have to do something to make myself at least half prepared for the series of tests. Especially my majors. I know I’ve been doing the best that I could but I got this feeling that our teacher (one of the most boring teacher, so said my seatmate) was also the type that would not let you pass if you got a bad score in her major exam, even if you’re the most participative one in class – but I am not that one so I know I’ve got to double my efforts even more.

I was seating on a soft pillow while my books are ready to be harassed any second from now. The small round table now looked very useful at the sight of my books and pens on it. Just as I moved my hands in order to get the ritual started, Alissa’s voice came in.

“Gabrielle, we have to go at Millie’s,” she shouted, her head peeping from inside the bedroom. I saw her made a reaction when she saw me. “Oh not now, Gab. You have to go with me.”

I sighed. “You must be kidding, Liss.” I call her Liss, cause now we’re best buddies. And that’s because I also miss calling someone by that name – remember I used to call my grandma Mama Liz? “Exams? Grades?”

She laughed as if she just remembered something and that she doesn’t care at all. That’s just one thing I find amusing in her but I don’t wanna have such kind of arrogance, though.

“Y….yeah, so? It’ll just take a bit of like…. fifteen minutes.”

“All right.” I could use some break. Great, cause now I’m asking for a break when I haven’t even started anything. Sorry, can’t help it though.

I began to fix myself and ushered her to get walking towards the door. When I passed by our new mirror (Alissa bought it because she’s not contented with the other one in the bedroom), I was satisfied with my blue turtleneck like I’m some walking towel and with my white pants. Still makes me look like a walking towel -_- But I guess there’s no time to change.

I forgot to ask Alissa about Millie’s because I never heard of it before. But before I could have the chance to butt in the topic, I saw the newly opened flower shop just around the corner of the second street from our apartment. So, that’s why Alissa was so tempted to go. She’s the type who’s very updated on new things especially here in the city where news can get to her and I don’t even have a single clue how or where.

“Yeeeeiiiii, we’re here!” she clasped both her hands as if a child who just saw for the first time the entire landscape of Enchanted Kingdom. I haven’t even been there and so

Page 2: Chapter 27

I would probably do the same thing. She dragged me until we arrived at the entrance where there are people piling over.

“Excuses… please, let us through!” Alissa said.

“Watch your step, ladies,” said one of the male customer with little hair on his shiny round head.

“I’m sorry,” the walking towel – I mean, I said.

“Hey! Can’t you see there’s a line?” it was a blonde middle-aged lady with a sexy fitting spaghetti and short shorts.

“Ouch. Watch where you’re stepping at!” I guess that was a man’s voice but she sounded like a hurt damsel at that.

“Go back and wait for your turn!”, “Shit, ladies. Get the hell away from this f*ckin store!”

Alissa’s determination made me embarrass as others who arrived there first watched us as if we’re some disturbing fellas – one beautiful and sexy fella while the other was her assistant walking towel. I should’ve worn something else!

“Uhm, Alissa.” I whispered through her ear while she was busy making ninja moves to get us inside the store. “Alissa!” I shouted when she heard nothing.

“Yeah, what?” she asked annoyingly without looking at me.

“You get in. I’ll just stay outside.”

Without waiting for her answer, I let go of her grasp and made my way out before I melted from the stares of the angry mob. I felt a deep breathe involuntarily enter into my mouth and filled my lungs as I straighten my back with my right hand supporting my lower spine. As soon as I opened my eyes, a familiar figure registered into my sight and he was standing a few feet away from the entrance door. My heart raised and suddenly butterflies went wild that twitched my stomach but that didn’t prevent me from taking a step towards him.

“Hello sir,” I greeted him, sounding as normal as if I’m talking with… well a professor.

He didn’t look at me but I know he knows I’m right there standing beside him.

“I see you’re interested with the new shop, too,” I wiggled like a child asking for a coin. Do I look like I’m forcing to be cute? Eew. I stopped and locked all my muscles from moving.

“I am.”

Okay. Can this man ever have a longer answer?

“You’ve just arrived.” I noticed that he still didn’t have flowers with him.

Page 3: Chapter 27

“No. I came here with the peaceful atmosphere of the shop when two robbers came in and caused some commotion.”

I covered my mouth in surprise. “Really?! Are you hurt?” I blurted out as I searched him for some scratches or maybe some of the buttons of his polo were missing because one of the robbers hit him or something.

“Why didn’t the police come?” I knew it, cops are always so- urgh!

“Are you being serious, Miss Corbin? I meant you and your friend.”

The realization came to me two seconds after and my blood rushed to my cheeks making it a shade darker than its usual pinkish skin. I was staring dumbly out of nowhere until I heard him cleared his throat and his jaw clenched as if trying to prevent a sigh. Was he embarrassed again? I was sure I saw the same reaction just like in the mansion.

“Oh,” was all I managed and it came out like a sigh. Suddenly, a group of questions came inside my head making my hearing noisier than the beeping cars.

Was he with the mob inside?

Did I step on his foot or maybe hit him with my head?

Was he one of those who shouted at us? (I remembered the bald guy, LOL of course he’s not that!)

“Hey!”

I noticed the waving hand in my front and I found out Sir Dean was distracting me from my dilution. We locked gaze for a while and I know I was blushing but he was just standing with his usual gaze who makes me think that he’s thinking deep and lost in thought but we snapped out from the stare immediately. He looked behind me while I look down.

“Wait, are these rose petals?” I said as I moved my slippers (and I noticed I was wearing my rabbit slippers I usually used inside the apartment) on the ground trying to move the petals with it.

Sir Dean didn’t answer and from his looks, I knew right away – this was from him. What was he doing with the roses? I traced the possible whereabouts of the stem and I was correct when I found it just in front of where he was standing and it ran out of petals already.

Could it be… but I thought he was uninterested?

I was pulled back when Alissa’s voice called me. She has with her a cute ceramic vase and a variety of colorful flowers. Sir Dean was nowhere beside me and when I tried to search for him, he was already on the other side of the street walking towards the

parked cars and before I could even lose sight, his dark yet alluring eyes looked at me. Surprised at the sudden moment, I looked away.

I survived the first day of exams. Two down and five more to go and it seems like eternity while I sit on my now favorite pillow, because it serves a different purpose than the usual sleeping tool, and my neck aching from not making a single move for two or three hours. I lost count. It was still one in the afternoon when I went home because my exams are luckily the ones scheduled in the mornings. I looked at my watch and it says it’s already past fifteen minutes after three. I suddenly felt tired.

The next thing I knew, I was on the library with a thick book laid on the long table. I was planning on taking a stroll outside the apartment and maybe grab some candies on the store but when I saw the long gates of the school, I changed my direction and headed there instead. Now my candies are transformed into a history book and the library was then the store that I wanted to go to.

Just because I went inside the library doesn’t mean I have to study for my exams again. What would happen to the “taking a break” plan if I would just be doing the same thing but only with a different venue?

I was now on the time of the World War I and I was amazed on how the city fought for their independence of not wanting to be a part of the uprising. In the process, I learned to like the city a little more.

Miss Corbin.

I thought I heard a voice. But I was alone in that part of the library, or so I thought. I continued to read. Now my focus is now hundred percent in the words of the book that I don’t want any disturbance as of the moment.

The war lasted for many months, killing with it more than half of the soldiers stationed in the field which is now the city park…

Someone cleared their throat.

How about a trivia… I continued reading. …about the person who blocked a tank’s way that could’ve killed a thousand civilians? Who is it? See page 555.

I hurriedly skipped some pages to go to the said page when the voice called me again, this time it was obvious that he wanted to talk to me.

“What?!” I was shouting in my most hushed voice.

Page 5: Chapter 27

And the annoying voice was none other than Genesis, the narcissist. He raised his hands trying to tell me that he’s not gonna fight back.

“Chill. I’m just hear to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk, sist,” it was a shorter name for narcissist but he could’ve thought of it as an epithet of his real name or maybe you could refer to it as a shorter term for “sister”. Whatever it is, he didn’t react so it’s no big deal.

He sighed and closed his eyes while controlling himself before staring back at me. He had a boy’s stare, any girl who’s romantically determined would fall for that stare because it’s how romantic books describe a perfect man staring at the lady. But I prefer a stare that will not just froze you down but would take your breath away, you’d forget your real name.

Just like Dean Walker.

I shook my head when I saw his face appearing like some medieval paintings of handsome kings enclosed in a curvy wooden frame.

“Well, I know that you’re avoiding me.”

I am and I bet you know by now as to why.

“I don’t know why,” he said shaking his head a little.

Oh c’mon. Are you that pathetic? I don’t want to do anything with you!

“Maybe you still don’t know me that much but I swear I could be a great companion. Trust me!”

You’re an MVP! Of course, I know you’ll be a hot companion and so as the eyes of the jealous ladies – flaming! The last thing I would do is to be your girlfriend and act sweet with you.

“I really wanna change your perception, Gabrielle. This past few days that I’ve been distracting you and following you, I came to know a lot about you.”

So what? That won’t change my mind.

“Look,” I sighed. I’m done with the mental answers. “You are a good person, I believe that. You are famous, and I know that you know, too.” Yeah cause you’re a narcissist.

“I know.” He sounds so innocent like he’s done something bad and I’m telling him some good advices. His eyes closing for a while before blinking them again.

Narcissist!

“But forcing me to become your girlfriend is too much. I know it was my mistake that I acted in front of the class about us but I asked for forgiveness and you said you’d accepted it. I believed you!”

Page 6: Chapter 27

“I know. I’m not asking you to be my girlfriend right now.”

There was a pause and I swear I can hear my own breathing.

“The thing is, I came here to be your friend.”

Huh? Sometimes, I believe that he has a major mood swings disorder.

“A friend? Aren’t we?”

He nodded and smiled. Well, I liked his smile than Sir Dean’s. Does that professor even smile?

“Let’s forget about you and me being a couple or whatever. Just start over.”

I nodded as I try to understand what he’s trying to let me know.

“Sure.”

And just like that he was gone with a happy smile while I was there left alone with a confused face. I didn’t really get the bearing of such conversation when all he ever wanted was to make friends.

Hey there. Thanks for reading the 27th chapter. SO what do you think about Genesis the narcissist’s sudden moves? Think there’s some motives behind it?
