• In 1086, William the Conqueror took a survey of the land to tax people correctly.
• To keep this information he published a book called the Doomsday Book.
• After he died Henry the second ruled. • He set up a central royal court. • Circuit judges brought the land together by giving
everyone equal laws.• When Henry died in 1189 his oldest son Richard
became king.

• When Richard died John, his brother, became king.
• He ignored the law and the nobles started to get mad.
• The nobles were so angry they forced him to sign the Magna Carta.
• The Magna Carta took away some of the kings power and increased the nobles power.
