have to ask myself, what use is February? It’s too cold to ride, there’s no motorcycle racing to watch on TV except

re-runs. I serviced the Wing before I parked it so there’s nothing going on there. I guess I’ll have to count my thumbs for 29 days. (This being a leap year) But an old proverb says that every cloud has a silver lining. Our challenge then is: a) Find a good size cloud b) Get inside and see if there IS a silver lining c) Make the best use of all that Sterling Silver! Allen and Gwen and probably Mickey and Nancy, Mike and Neci will all probably have lots to say about WinterThing. Barbara and I didn’t make that event as we had to go up to BWI and meet Sally on the 18th of January; she spent Christmas and New Years in UK with her fiancée’s family. So I think my cloud (and probably yours too) has been the cold, cold weather we’ve been having. Several of our Chapter Member went to the PARR Polar Bear Ride in VA New Years Day and had a great time there. I have a long-standing friendship with a fellow sidecar rider in PA and went to meet him at a Christian Motorcycle Association Polar Bear ride in Lewiston PA. I got up at 5 and rode about 175 miles, only to find that the venue had been changed! Naturally I didn’t know where it had been changed to. It wouldn't have been too bad except that when I put the Wing away last time I rode it, it was very low on gas. After I ran out of gas on I97 I remembered that I meant to stop at the very first gas station next time I rode it!! Just for the record a 97 Wing tank holds 6.3 gallons from bone dry to full!! I rode home down some nice back roads in PA so it wasn’t a total waste of time.

My search for a silver lining consisted of taking over the reigns of the Chapter again after a 2-year lay off. I don’t have any problem at all being “CD”. The whole Chapter consists of fun, friendly and helpful families, so how can associating with you guys be anything but “Silver” even in a GOLD Wing group? So how can I make use of the Silver? I expect it will be meeting everyone, calling as many Chapter Members as I can, while trying my best to make Chapter events happen as we all planned and making sure they are fun for everyone (and me too!). And of course making it through to March when the weather warms up and I can ride again. Don’t forget to check out the calendar at the back of this newsletter. We have a bunch of dinner rides, day trips, two-day rides, ice cream nights and tons of other things for you to enjoy. So come on and join in. Oh yes, I just remembered, my garage is full of old motorcycles waiting to be restored or rebuilt. If I put the heater on out there I can work undisturbed all winter and have some new bikes to ride in the spring. I don’t know how I’ll manage with only 29 days to work in February. Thank goodness for February. Without it the summer would be one long boring ride on the same old motorcycle! How’s that for a silver lining? See Ya, Brian

Assistant Chapter Directors

I Chapter J: I hope this month’s newsletter finds everyone well. The Maryland State

Rally in Ocean City on Jan. 15-16-17-18, 2004 was the biggest yet. There were 348 full registration and 25 day passes for Winter

Thing 2004. The ones that went, Gwen & I hoped you had a good time, at the new location which was Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel, because Gwen & I sure had a good time, but it was a little cold. This time I signed my wife up for some training classes, CPR & First Aid certification. So if something happens to me Gwen may try to HELP ME????. While Gwen was in the class on Saturday I took Mike Mangum & Kathy over to Chrome World Inc. in Selbyville, DE. It was Mike's first time at Chrome World; it was bad because they were sold out of almost everything, because they just had an open house on Friday Jan. 16th. Mike Mangum went to get some chrome to try to catch up with Mr. Jim Lehr. In the State we had five chapters that had NEW Chapter Directors sworn in as CD's at Winter Thing. Well to let the chapter know that Chapter J received first place for total number of visits in the 2003 year with 29. Then the Chapter received the Special Achievement ward for visiting all the chapters in Maryland. Then there was a mistake on the Traveler's Plaque captures they said that Chapter J & C were tried with six each. The chapter pointed out to James & Lillian Bradford the District Membership Coordinators that Chapter C had captured the plaque 7 times,

so we gave the plaque back to the District to have it changed to show Chapter C came in first place on that one. Gwen & I would like to THANK ALL of chapter J for all of their support with the Chapter visits for the year of 2003. See you all soon Allen & Gwen
