In Rio it was hot and sunny. Linda and Blu were in

Tulio’s car. There were a lot of people. Some of

the people danced.

‘It’s OK, Linda, ’ laughed Tulio. ‘It’s the start of

Carnival.’

Tulio opened the door to a big room. ‘Come

on, Blu!’ he said. ‘This is Jewel.’

‘Wow,’ thought Blu. ‘She’s beautiful!’

‘Hi,’ he said. ‘I’m Blu.’

But Jewel did not want to talk.

That night, Blu waited for Linda by the door.

‘Soon I can go home,’ he thought.

Suddenly the door opened. Blu was frightened.

‘Jewel!’ shouted Blu. ‘Are you OK?’

Jewel didn’t answer.

Then someone put them in a cage.

A man and a white bird looked into the cage.

‘Two Spix’s Macaws,’ said the man. He put

a chain on their legs. ‘We’re going to be rich,

Nigel.’

‘Very good, Marcel!’ laughed the white bird.

Nigel and Marcel went out. There were lots of

birds in the room.

‘What are we going to do now?’ said Jewel.

‘I know,’ said Blu. He opened the cage. ‘I have

a cage like this at home.’

‘Great,’ said Jewel. ‘Let’s fly!’

Jewel flew out of the cage. She pulled Blu

behind her on the chain.

‘No!’ shouted Blu. ‘I can’t fly!’

They fell down and down.

That night, Linda and Tulio looked for Blu and

Jewel. Nigel and Marcel looked too. They didn’t

find them.
