 CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Here is the summary of findings based on the analysis of data.

Summary of Findings

Table 1 show that, there are 155 females for 77.50 % as compared

to males of 45 for 22.50. This indicates that there are more females than

male in the College of Business and Commerce as the course tends to be

more attractive for female than male.

As to age distribution male and female have the same mean ages of

almost 18 years old showing that majority of students are also of age

having parents or guardians with stable job that are able to send them to

school. Furthermore, the 15 to 17 years of age got a total of 131 for 65.50

% as the highest signifying the normal age for a college student in the

Philippines.

Conclusion

Strongly related to family social class: the higher the class the more the

paternal involvement.

Page 10: Chapters 4 & 5 of Impact of Parental Involvement

Strongly related to the level of parents’ educational attainment: the Higher

the level of parental educational qualification the greater the extent of

involvement.

Paternal Involvement diminishes and changes form as children get older.

Strongly influenced by the child’s attainment: the greater the attainment,

the greater the degree of involvement.

Parental involvement continues to have a significant effect through the

age range although the impact for older children becomes more evident in

staying on rates and educational aspirations than as measured achievement.

Involvement works indirectly on school outcomes by helping the child

build a pro-social, pro-learning self concept and high educational aspirations.

In conclusion, a greater academic progress can be achieved by students if

their parents becomes conscious of the fact that there is a lot they can do to

bring to reality their goals and aspiration for their children. Indeed the attitude and

performance in science subjects is a function of the level of parental involvement.

In view of the importance of parental involvement to academic progress, it

is important that school authorities should seek for means of ensuring that the

attitude of parent and guidance are influenced positively towards assisting the

students, so that they in turn can put in their best into their school work
