In 2000, voters approved Proposition 301, which created the Arizona Character Education Matching Grant Program.
The Arizona State Legislature allocates $200,000 annually for grant awards.
History
Character Education Matching Grant Program
§15-154.01Duration of Grant:
Awarded yearly, up to Three (3) Years
Minimum Grant Award: $1,000/ year/ school site
Maximum Grant Award: $10,000,year/school site
Who Is Eligible for the Grant?Any public or charter school that teaches a character
education curriculum pursuant to section 15-719 is eligible for a state matching grant.
The character education program shall be an age specific, stand-alone character education
curriculum that includes at least five of the following attributes:

enhances the academic goals of the schools.

In spring of 2004 the Arizona State Legislature approved legislation for the development of the first Character Education License plate in the United States. The proceeds from the license plate will support
the Arizona character education initiative. The license plate is available for purchase through the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division.
