National Conference: 50th Jubilee of the Charismatic Renewal

Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD, (fourth from left) and Fr. George Montague, SM, (fourth from right) are among those honored at the 50th Jubilee National Conference in Pittsburgh, July 2017. The theme of the Conference was “Rivers of Living Water”.

According to PittsburghCatholic.org, there were some 7000 people who attended July 20-23! One of the highlights of the gathering was a Holy Hour and a candlelight, Eucharistic procession from the Convention Center, across the Roberto Clemente Bridge, to Allegheny Landing Park on the North Shore that included thousands of participants.

Between conference sessions July 22, Bishop Sam Jacobs called the gathering “a celebration of what God has done over 50 years. But it’s also a time to look forward to the future, to renew that vision that God has given us as the renewal. And that’s to bring this grace of Pentecost into the heart of the church.”

Can I get an “AMEN!!”??

National Charismatic Renewal Jubilee Conference: July 2017 The National Conference in Pittsburgh brought together around 7,000 people with English, Spanish, Haitian and Filipi-

no Tracks. It was a great time to give thanks for all the blessings of Charismatic Renewal over 50 years, and to look

ahead to what God will continue to do. We heard about the amazing graces at the beginning of the Renewal, and we

were encouraged by a prophetically led healing service to learn how to operate more fully in the spiritual gifts so that

the proclamation of Jesus’ Good News will be confirmed by signs and wonders. We were encouraged by Pope Francis’

strong support of Charismatic Renewal, especially his words that baptism in the Spirit is meant for everyone. At one

session recognition was given to outstanding leaders in Charismatic Renewal in the United States. Fr. George Monta-

gue, SM and Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD were two of the people who were recognized.

Important Fall Training Dates We have 2 important Saturday training days coming up. See the information sheets on the September 23 Spanish

Day, and the September 16 English Day. These are very important events for our ongoing growth, and for praying and

working in unity, which leads to greater fruitfulness. Please get this information to all your prayer group members. The

English Day has the theme, ‘Evangelizing Prayer Groups with Evangelizing Individuals, Empowered by the Gifts of the

Holy Spirit.” We want to have strong evangelizing prayer groups, and individuals who can testify and share the Good

News of Jesus, and learn to do this using the spiritual gifts. We can expect an outpouring of the Spirit, bringing us

greater wisdom and empowerment as we continue to celebrate this Jubilee Year!

Spring Conference, March 2-3, 2018

Our yearly Spanish and English Conference will at St. Mary Magdalen Church and Hall. The theme is, Strong Disciples,

YES! Controlled by the Culture, NO! We want to learn how to become strong disciples of Jesus, and through the power

and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, stand strong against the anti-Christian (Catholic) influences in our society and culture.

Jesse Romero from Catholic Radio will be giving 2 presentations in English and 2 in Spanish. Jesse spoke at our con-

ference a few years ago. He is a dynamic, Spirit-led preacher and teacher. He has spoken and written about this topic

frequently. You will be getting more information about the conference in the near future, including one of the sessions

that will focus on the pressures on young adults today.
