Thank you from Prostate Scotland

Prostate Scotland would like to thank Chris Igoe for his brilliant initiative to so kindly hold

this special charity golf tournament in aid of us —especially for the extra effort he has made

this year. This is the second golf tournament that Chris has organised in aid of our work and

we are thrilled to receive his continuous support. We'd like to extend our thanks to Lodge

Newbattle 1063, the local businesses, individuals, organisations and lodges who are sponsor-

ing tees, fielding teams, and donating prizes as well as to Kings Acre Golf Course for their as-

sistance. We hope you have an enjoyable day.

Current COVID-19 plan

allow you to play in the tournament at Kings Acre in the safest way possible. It is vitally im-

portant that we adhere to the guidelines set out below to ensure we keep the risk of any

hire subject to availability.

Players should aim to arrive at Kings Acre no more than 20 minutes in advance of their allo-

cated tee time.

There should be no socialising in the car park or any other part of the golf course. You must

resist the temptation to mingle and observe social distancing. Please change your shoes and

assemble your trolleys in the car park.

Welcome to the Charity Golf Tournament 2020

I would to thank everyone for taking part in this charity tournament in aid of

Prostate Scotland which is a charity close to my heart.

The reason behind me doing this tournament is most down to the fact my

dad is currently battling prostate cancer. Luckily he got checked and caught

it early but he is one of the few fortunate people that caught it early enough

to treat because he was aware of the possible life threatening problems pros-

tate cancer can bring.

Thanks again and enjoy your day.

Regards

Chris Igoe

1. Lodge St John Fisherrow 112

Brief History of Lodge St John

Lodge St John Fisherrow was Chartered on 15th March 1768.

The original charter is displayed in the Temple today and

was signed by Brother The Right Honourable, 8th Earl of

Dalhousie, Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason.

At this time there were two other lodges active in Mussel-

burgh, Lodge Aitcheson Haven, and Musselburgh Kilwinning.

Lodge Aitcheson Haven, in existence since 1555 had the old-

est known minute book, now displayed in Grand Lodge.

The lodge is unique in that we open in the third degree and

all present are tested before the lodge is opened. Our ritual

is also unique, being an American ritual used only by a few

lodges in Scotland.

2. Lodge Liberton 1201

The Lodge was first formed within a year of the end of the

Great War (1914-18), from Brethren who had become

friendly whilst serving together in the local Volunteer De-

fence Corps. When the war ended, and the platoon faced

disbandment, those who were Freemasons realised that the

formation of a local Lodge would serve to continue their

comradeship.

From 1919 until 1965, Lodge Liberton met in the Anderson

Hall, belonging to Liberton Kirk (whose outline forms the

Lodge crest) The Lodge then acquired a small hall in Mount

Vernon Road Edinburgh, some 200 yards away, and, after

extending the hall, has met there to this day.

Although many of the Lodge members are still drawn from

the former villages of the Liberton and Gilmerton area, just

as those villages are now part of the City of Edinburgh, so

the Lodge has a much wider outlook and welcomes visitors

from far and wide.

17. Lodge Rosslyn St Clair 606

The Lodge is situated in the small town of Roslin some 7.5

miles south from Edinburgh City centre and is so called,

along with six other Lodges in Scotland, after William St.

Clair of Roslin, the first Grand Master Mason of the Grand

Lodge of Scotland.

The Lodge was granted its charter on 7th May 1877 and

held the first meeting in the original Inn, College Hill, adja-

cent to the world famous Rosslyn Chapel. The present

Lodge rooms, having been the public hall, have been owned

by the Lodge since 1920; the previous meeting places en-

joyed by the Brethren have included, the Inn, Rosslyn Castle

and Creelha in Manse Road.

All Brethren are most welcome to visit without making any

prior arrangement or introduction. Various social evenings

are supported by the Brethren and guests but everybody is

welcome to join us.

Also available are items of Lodge memorabilia such as Mil-

lennium Jewels, Mark tokens, ties, bone china mugs, cuff

links, tie pins and lapel pins.

17. Lodge Rosslyn St Clair 606—continued

Assistance is available to Brethren wishing the visit Rosslyn

Chapel.

18. Lodge Gorebridge Dundas 1039

At the turn of the century there seemed to be quite a number

of lodges springing up all over the country. Indeed in our own

Province of Midlothian no fewer than four lodges had peti-

tioned Grand Lodge of Scotland for charters within a com-

paratively short time of one another.

Before the lodge was formed, a number of the brethren, (who

were later to become founder members), attended Lodge

Dalkeith Kilwinning No.10. It may be interesting to note that

Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No.10 applied to Grand Lodge of

Scotland for a dispensation to hold a meeting in Gorebridge

for the purpose of conferring the F.C. degree on 13 local

brethren. Grand Lodge granted permission and the meeting

took place in the Inn at Gorebridge. It was mention, the hold-

ing of this meeting in Gorebridge because of its significance,

for soon after this, Grand Lodge banned Floating Charters

and this was the forerunner of the forming of a Masonic

Lodge in Gorebridge.

The brethren got together soon after this and agreed to peti-

tion Grand Lodge for a Charter and that the name of the

Lodge be Gorebridge Dundas. The reason for this was obvi-

ous, Sir Robert Dundas, First Baronet of Arniston being a

great benefactor to the village and also was a Past Master of

Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No.10.

Sponsor of Practice Area: Lodge Newbattle St Mary 1063

During the year 1909, 32 founder members signed a peti-

tion for a Charter, to erect a new Lodge, to be designated

Lodge Newbattle St. Mary 1063. Some neighbouring Lodg-

es, in the surrounding area, voiced their concern that this

could be detrimental to them, and their membership. How-

ever, Lodge St. Leonards, Loanhead and Lasswade 580, and

Lodge Dalhousie Bonnyrigg 720, sponsored the petition.

At a Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge, held on 4th

November 1909, the petition, proposed by the R.W.P.G.M.

of Midlothian, Bro. Col. Lewis M. Hope CB, ADC, and se-

conded by Bro. Munro Denholm was presented. A large ma-

jority granted a Charter.

The first Master Elect of the Lodge Bro. Mungo Mackay,

(general manager of the Lothian Coal Company, and a

much feared man within the mining community), and the

proposed Office Bearers, met the very next evening, Friday,

5th November, in the United Free Church, when Lodge fur-

niture, clothing, and colours were selected. The following

Tuesday, 9th November, and each Tuesday thereafter, until

the Consecration, Erection, and Installation of Office Bear-

ers, on 1st December 1909. The R.W.P.G.M. and his Officers

performed the ceremony. The R.W.M. Bro. Mungo Mackay

remained in this Office for three years.

About Prostate Scotland

Prostate cancer and disease are unfortunately more prevalent than many people may real-

ise. Nearly one in two men in Scotland is likely to get prostate disease at some stage in

their lives, and one in ten may develop prostate cancer. Prostate Scotland was set up to

create awareness of and provide men and their families with information and support

about prostate cancer and disease. We know how vital it is for men and their families to

receive information and support, especially those coming new to the topic or after a diag-

nosis.

Prostate Scotland is Scotland’s prostate disease charity (Charity No SC037494). We were

founded by a group of people with personal knowledge and experience of prostate dis-

ease, as well as some of the leading medical experts on prostate disease and cancer in

Scotland. In November 2017 we were awarded Health Charity of The Year in the Charity

Champions Awards. We:

- provide a range of information for men and their families and partners,

- hold events and develop awareness materials about prostate cancer and disease.

- promote research and treatment developments on prostate issues across Scotland

Through the support of our kind supporters over the past few years we have developed:

- the first comprehensive website in Scotland providing information for men and their

families about the full range of prostate diseases including prostate cancer which is at

www.prostatescotland.org.uk.

- an award winning range of information about prostate disease and its treatments includ-

ing helpful guides about prostate cancer and disease and their treatments,

- an awareness initiative across Scotland called Pull Your Finger Out—to help encourage

greater awareness and earlier diagnosis

- a Workplace Initiative to reach men and their partners through the workplace

- a successful appeal to help bring about and support robot assisted prostate cancer sur-

gery in the east and west of Scotland

If you or someone you know requires information about prostate cancer and disease then

please go to our website prostatescotland.org.uk, phone us on 0300 666 2036, phone us

at [email protected], or write to us at Prostate Scotland, 14 Torphichen Place,
