    AB OUT THE COU RSE : This course offers students the opportunity to tap theircreative potential by building pathways that develop strengthsin professional and creative writing, blogs and writing for theweb, broadcast and multimedia production. Students areencouraged to broaden their studies through elective choicesfrom the creative courses being offered at Charles DarwinUniversity in New Media Design, Fine Arts and Music.

    ABO UT TH E C OU RSE : This degree provides students with knowledge and skillsin a range of disciplines drawn from the Humanities, SocialSciences and Education that will enable graduates to applyfor registration as a teacher of Humanities curriculum areas(including the option of second languages), in addition toa second teaching area drawn from another field of study.Students can select a second teaching area from a range ofspecialist electives to suit their interests.

    The education studies component is practice-focused withstudents undertaking professional experience in schools andother learning sites generally from the third year of their course.Students are also encouraged to undertake field/professionalexperience in remote schools. *See Note on page 38

    CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: The course prepares graduates to teach Humanities andSocial Sciences in Secondary School.

    PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION: Although CDU are currently seeking national accreditationthrough the Australian Institute of Teaching and SchoolLeadership (AITSL) accreditation process, prospectivestudents are advised to check with the teacher registrationauthority in their state or territory regarding the suitability ofthe course for the purpose of teaching registration in that

    jurisdiction. Students will need to meet the English languageentry requirements for registration.
