A FAMOUS WRITER.

Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic. He

created some of the world's best-known fictional characters

and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the

Victorian era. He was born in Portsmouth on 7 february

1812.

VICTORIAN ERA

As is quite evident from the title the kind of literature that evolved during the reign of Queen Victoria is

famously known as the Victorian era literature. The literature of the Victorian age (1837-1901) entered a

new period after the romantic revival. The literature of this era was preceded by romanticism and was

followed by modernism or realism. Hence, it can also be called a fusion of romantic and realist style of

writing. Though the Victorian age is also remarkable for the excellence of its prose.

„A Christmas Carol” The holiday season is now upon us which means people will

be reading and watching A Christmas Carol, the Charles Dickens novella written

in 1843. An immediate commercial and critical success, it remains immensely

popular to this day. And, perhaps most importantly, the story is popular because

many of us NEED A Christmas Carol, not just at Christmas, but all the year

round, because, like Scrooge, we have a tendency to become disconnected

from our own pasts as we get older and immersed in our work and family lives.

We forget the people and things that were most important to us when we were

younger. We shield ourselves from the needs of others because those needs

can be so overwhelming. We get compassion-fatigue from all the requests for

charitable donations we’re subjected to, particularly at this time of year.

Charles Dickens face was used on ten pounds banknotes.

He had ten babies with his wife Catherine, but they divorced beacuse he

fall in love with famous actress.

His full name is Charles John Huffam Dickens.

Dickens’s Zodiac Sign was Aquarius.

When Dickens was 31 years old he had massive debts, it inspired him to

write „A Christmas Carol”

PERSONALITY OF CHARLES DICKENS

He is the foremost representative of the Victorian novel. One side of his genius

was his natural sense of humour, a quality which has kept alive the characters of

his novels up to the present time, when his attacks on the systems of Victorian

life have lost their topicality. His humour can be found in character drawing, in

dialogue and in whole episodes. The sequence of events that we find in his

novels, was partly due to their serial form, and it is to be found particularly in his

first great comic novel, The Pickwick Papers. Here each episode is pure humour,

and Dickens rejoices in his ability to create character after character to put them

in funny situations.
