Charles F. Dolan School of Business Master of Science in Accounting Program Overview The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program is a full- time cohort program beginning each May that is designed to be completed in just one year. The program provides advanced knowledge in the field of accounting, so individuals can succeed in an environment that increasingly requires grounding in ethical, legal, and regulatory matters, as well as knowledge of technology’s role in accounting, financial reporting, auditing, and tax. The MSA also addresses the educational requirements of most states for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification. Due to the limited number of spaces available each year and the competitiveness of the application pool, candidates are advised to apply early. Coursework The curriculum includes 30 credits of coursework consisting of 10, three-credit courses. Students are strongly encouraged to specialize in a specific area such as assurance, business analytics, or taxation. Foundation Courses (15 Credits) Accounting for Governments, Hospitals, and Universities Issues in Accounting Ethics Financial Statement Analysis Entity Taxation Choose one: Accounting Information Systems and Technology Audit Issues in a Global Environment Tax Planning International Courses (3 Credits) Choose one: International Taxation Audit Issues in a Global Environment Designated Research Course (3 Credits) Choose one: Research on Contemporary Issues in Accounting Tax Research ELECTIVE COURSES (9 CREDITS) Specializations include: Assurance Business Analytics Taxation Admission Requirements Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or the international equivalent) and have completed Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Advanced Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Auditing and Taxation I. In addition, applicants are required to have completed the following undergraduate courses: College-level Mathematics, Statistics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. Admission Process Applications to the graduate program are accepted on a rolling basis and require the following: A completed online graduate application at ga.fairfield.edu/apply A non-refundable $60 application fee A professional resume A personal statement approximately one page including reasons for pursuing the program and career objectives Official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended. (All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved evaluating service) Two letters of recommendation Official score for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) can be substituted for the GMAT. For information regarding our GMAT/GRE waiver policy, please contact Rev. Gregory Konz, S.J. at gkonz@fairfield.edu All international students whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by taking either the TOEFL or IELTS exam.
