Context Focus of South Tees CCG is to provide care closer to home, improving choice and

involvement for patients in their treatment Issues with the long term viability of two community hospitals and condition of larger

assets that had maintenance backlog and required significant capital investment Estate across South Tees needed to be reconfigured to consolidate and enhance

clinical services and enable services to operate from modern facilities

Approach and delivery• Centralisation of services, redevelopment of

properties and the utilisation of empty or underused spaces to make efficiencies and invest savings back into the local NHS system

• Key strategic estate support to the South Tees health economy provides £1.9m saving

Client – NHS Property Services’ 2,500 customersFM Rationalisation Context• Establishment of NHS Property Services in 2013 saw the merging of 160 local

NHS organisations bringing together over 2,300 FM contracts and agreements• Aim to save millions each year across the whole NHS system by reducing

number of contracts and suppliers, whilst ensuring continuation of efficient, consistent FM services for customers and patients

Approach and delivery• Rationalisation has reduced 2,300 outsourced contracts

down to 249 and 1,000’s of suppliers to under 20• 2015/16 target saving of £15m – Actual saving of £22m

which is passed back to the NHS to improve patient care• 900 previously outsourced staff have been brought

directly under the employment of NHSPS
