Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 1971 2005 Remake

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 1971 2005 ComparisonThe original institution made in 1971 ran off a surreal and imaginative theme. The cinematography flowed and the individual character profiling was less focused on. The 2011 remake however, ran more creative but odd themes throughout the plot. The remake suggested that all of the novels original characters were more obscure. The leading characters in the original were constructed to appear more sinful than is suggested in the remake released in 2005. The remake was directed by Tim Burton and was immersed in direct language that the audience can connote with fantasy and a more magical atmosphere. This therefore meant that the remake targeted a more family orientated audience, creating such a strong message through the use of dialogue and characterisation Burton gave a light hearted feel to the film and therefore created an institution that prompted laughter and joy from its audience as they could sing along.

There is also a difference in the producing technology used between both institutions. The 2005 remake used CGI animation in order to enhance the effect of digital film within the factory, this therefore gave the film a much more animated look and effect meaning that key aspects of mis-en-scene like lighting and colour were enhanced. This therefore made the distinction clearer between the more original set of the film produced in 1971 and the 2005 remake. The use of older technologies in the original made the film an object of imagination where the audience could distinguish the narrative in the film to their own lives. The technologies used in the 2005 remake however turned the narrative into a prospect that its audience believed could possibly happen. The use of film and old technology therefore made for a better performance as the audience could marvel in their imagination considering they could rely on the narrative as means of escapism. The CGI animation used in the remake almost took away from the performance and development of the plot as individual characters were more prioritized considering that the main character casted was Johnny Depp, a very famous actor at the time, many saw the production as more of a vanity project rather than a fascinating heart-warming story enjoyed by many.
