PassageManager allows access to ChartCo’s full range of services through an intuitive graphical interface providing ‘at a glance’ monitoring of all update statuses. With minimal ‘clicks’ paper and electronic product catalogues and outfits can be displayed together with any correction or permit status.

PassageManager has been designed to facilitate the easy management of a data library which may consist of paper and electronic products and a bridge that uses ECDIS as well as more traditional methods of managing important navigational data.

ChartCo also recognises that the increasing use of electronic data means that purchasing and updating activity is changing. Using PassageManager allows baskets of product requirements to be automatically generated from the route and sent to either the on-shore office for approval or direct to ChartCo. The supply of permits is then fully automated and takes only a few minutes.

ChartCo’s interest does not stop with data updates. Traditional methods of updating ENC data is through CDs or DVDs which means a ship can never be truly up-to-date. PassageManager allows ENC cells to be downloaded individually or as folios, making sure that a vessel has access to any new cell or new edition as soon as notification has been received whilst still minimising data costs.

DATA IS HIGHLY COMPRESSED ANDMATCHED TO THE VESSELS OUTFIT

ChartManager is the module of PassageManager that enables the management of paper and electronic chart outfits as well as informing the user of all necessary corrections. At the heart of the module lies a comprehensive geo catalogue that is updated on a weekly basis. Using these catalogues, ships outfits can be easily created or modified.

Data is displayed via a graphical interface, providing ‘at a glance’ coverage, licencing and outfit information. All corrections are delivered on a weekly basis as soon as the data has been released by the national authorities. Whilst the complete Notice to Mariner is delivered to the vessel, only those corrections that are applicable to the charts in the outfits are initially displayed. A log of all corrections applied to each chart is maintained within the system and may be viewed at any time. From these logs, ISM compliant reports of the vessel outfit can be produced.

BENEFITS

The ChartManager service provides simple, effective, updates and management of paper and electronic charts from several hydrographic offices, giving vessels the ability to modify their outfits as necessary.

Full catalogues are maintained on-board and as part of the service, ChartCo keeps them fully updated. Through this, users are notified of withdrawn, additional and new edition charts and ENC cells.

Traditionally, chart updates have been delivered via CD or paper, making it almost impossible to keep products up to date. ChartCo makes it possible to receive these updates in a timely manner thus ensuring safe and compliant navigation at all times. Once received, paper corrections can be printed out and applied to charts, while ENC updates can be placed within an ‘exchange set’ and transferred to any ECDIS via CD/DVD or the vessels network. In addition, through ChartManager, the user can download individual ENC cells, such as new editions, from ChartCo’s secure server when necessary.

Through PassageManager, the MetManager service provides comprehensive weather information and computer-based on-board vessel routeing advice.

In an extension of its capabilities, the MetManager forecast can be imported by PassageManager and used as part of the passage plan.

BENEFITS

Up-to-date weather forecasting and routeing capability means that weather damage to the vessel and cargo can be avoided.

ChartCo can also arrange for shore-based routeing services based on the same core data, allowing bespoke voyage instructions to be sent to the vessel, which can be imported into the on-board software to give convenient visual representation of the proposed route.

Forecast data is automatically received on-board the vessel without the need for initiation by the vessels’ crews. All vessels receive highly detailed full ocean region coverage.

Vessel Routeing: following receipt of new forecast data, the user can update the computer-based routeing advice with enhanced route comparison and track details in order to ensure economic passage planning.

All SOLAS vessels are required to receive Maritime Safety Information including NavArea Warnings and often this will be via Navtex.

The world is divided into 21 NavAreas and the warnings for each area are provided by the area coordinator. For individual vessels to obtain all the relevant data and sort it in order of priority is a time consuming task. The ChartCo NavArea service removes all uncertainty and reduces the workload, presenting warnings through the PassageManager graphical interface and then inserting them into the passage plan.

BENEFITS

ChartCo provides NavArea Warnings through a user friendly map-based interface so that navigating officers can easily see warnings affecting their route, both in the planning stage and during their passage. These can also be incorporated into the passage plan if required.

EnviroManager is a location-based system to assist vessels in complying with MARPOL regulations.

Using a GPS feed and a regularly updated geographic database, including all agreed national and international baselines, EnviroManager provides a simple colour coded system to advise the crew what discharges are and are not permitted at any position worldwide including bilge water, sewage, air emissions, garbage, food waste and ballast.

By using symbols for every presented regulation, EnviroManager is very easy to use, helps the vessel plan the handling of waste in an efficient way and minimises the risk of a faulty discharge.

EnviroManager also includes ZET (Zone Entry Time) information for Special Areas (SA), Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSA) and Emission Control Areas (ECA).

ENVIROMANAGER


Vessels are now required by The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) to monitor and record crew work and rest hours. The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) recommends that this be done by way of on-board software and Port State Control authorities have confirmed that they will actively check compliance.

ChartCo’s Work and Rest Hours module enables seafarers to log work or rest periods whilst checking for compliance with international legislations. Any violations are highlighted. A Working Arrangements sheet can be printed in English or a preferred language. Weekly/monthly timesheets can also be printed. Reports are available to the Master and Supervisors so they can monitor and prevent non-compliance. Work and Rest can be installed on one or more PCs synchronising all data with the ChartCo Servers so shore-based staff can also review and interrogate the work and rest data in FleetManager.

The ChartCo service keeps a vessel fully informed regarding piracy attacks, providing that information through an easy to view graphical interface. It is integrated into PassageManager as a Live Piracy Map showing all the piracy and armed robbery incidents reported to the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre.

A further enhancement of this service is the provision of a searchable database of Port State Control information from the Paris and Tokyo MOU ports; so vessels can easily check before arrival what particular operational areas have led to deficiencies and detentions in specific ports in the previous weeks and months.
