Are you wondering what to turn in for the December 13–January 23 AWR “Fine
Arts” student work sample? On page 3 of this newsletter, you will find a sheet
that reviews what “Fine Arts” includes. Ideas for projects in each category are
shown. If there was ever a time to be creative, this is it! Think outside the box!
Since limited HRCS filing cabinet space requires a flat 8 1/2 x 11” (or smaller)
student sample, consider bringing in a photo, CD, DVD or program of your
student’s art or performance. Don’t forget to have your child write a description
of his or her sample. Your goal throughout the year should be to have your
student apply the following in each of the four “Arts” categories:
- Observe and respond to that art form
-Apply (DO!) that art form
-Analyze that art form throughout different cultures and time periods
-Assess and derive meaning from that art form
-Relate that art form to other subject areas and careers
*Dance* *Music* *Theatre* *Visual Arts*
Dear Parents, The upcoming standardized STAR (CST) test is scheduled for April 29th - May 3th, 2013 for grades K-8 and April 23-25th, 2013 for High School. Please mark your calendars now. CST released questions for test preparation are available online at:
http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/css05rtq.asp If you need a pre-printed copy of the CST released questions, please contact your Advisory Teacher by Friday, January 18, 2013. Orders will be ready by Curriculum Fair, February 25th, 2013. If you choose to order a pre-printed copy, a sample from each subject will be required with your May AWR. Second and Third grade students attending the Test Prep Class will be provided with all the test prep materials.

Writing Corner In January, our focus will be on report writing. As you may be aware, report writing is a California State Standard for 2nd-8th grade students.
You may ask, “What type of report should my child do?” Here are a few suggestions: Animal report Country report (6-7th grade focus) Biography Ancient civilizations (6-7th grade) Mission report (4th grade focus) A period in history (7th grade) State report (5th grade focus) US History (8th grade focus)
We love to see students prepared for high school and this is one of the crucial ways to be ready. Older students should include a table of contents and a Bibliography or Works Cited page. Information can come from a variety of sources including books, encyclopedias or the internet.
FYI-A project as large as a report should be spread out over a number of weeks, and would make an excellent Spring Festival project.
If you have concerns or questions, your AT is available to assist you.
Please Note: 2013 Report Writing Packet will be available on our website beginning January 14, 2013.
We would like to thank
each of you who supported
and helped with our
Poinsettia Fundraiser. The
monies that were raised
will be used for
future field trips
and/or assemblies!
Thanks again!
