5 NOTES from you, to you We wish to thank you, our friends and family for the wonderful acts of kindness . The food, phone calls, cards and letters along with the concern shown to us all has helped us during this difficult time. Che-beague meant everything to Gerry and she was very proud to live here and to be part of this caring com-munity.

Sincerely, The family of Gerry Ross

The girls and I would like to thank all of you for giving us a great farewell send off at the boat. We are blessed to have so many friends on the island. The girls and I (along with Surfer Girl) made it to Virginia August 1st. Anna was able to meet her pen pal of 2 years when we stopped to visit her and her family in upper Vermont. What a beautiful ride. The girls will start school just after Labor Day. Anna is in a 4 week teen camp and has already visited Virginia Beach and Yorktown Beach. Trisha will start her camp next week and will visit an Italian Ice business. She has been busy with Vacation Bible School at our local church. I have been enjoying taking care of my granddaughter Annabelle. We also took a trip to Delaware to see Sarah and my other granddaughter Marlo. The weather is hot and humid here so we have gone to the swimming pool several times. The girls love it because it has a 146 foot curly slide and a whirlpool. Thanks again for the great send off. We will miss the wonderful people of the island. Sincerely, Karen, Anna and Trisha Hamilton

Most sincere thanks to the Chebeague Rescue crew and the CTC boat crew, who were so wonderful getting me off the Island to Maine Medical on Sat-urday, 25 July. I felt very well taken care of - eve-rybody was gentle, concerned, beautifully compe-tent and effective. Mystery lingers, but the system sure works! Grateful to all, Irene Winter

Many thanks to all the volunteer firefighters who responded to a malfunctioning alarm in my house on the morning of august 11. What a surprise to come home from the beach to find the fire trucks, and what seemed like all of the Chebeague fire fighters in my driveway! Special thanks to Nancy Earnest for hearing the alarm sounding and making the call. We can all be proud of, and grateful for this dedicated group of well trained volunteers.

Ellen Maher

Now it is my turn. Having to call the rescue twice in one week,

the responders without a doubt were caring and professional. Being a first responder my-self, I understand some of the lingo and knew I was in good hands. We are truly blessed to have these people in our midst.

To the boat crew, family and friends who stepped up to help run Camp Chaos that day, Regina and I send our love and thanks!

Ed and Regina Leonard

The Kids’ Place The Chebeague childcare program, affection-

ately known as "Kids' Place”, has been a grand success attracting as many as 30 children ages 4 months to 12 years. The program has been a vital support to young, working parents and has the po-tential to attract families with young children to the Island. It also will become a feeder to the Island School.

Currently, Kids’ Place depends upon borrowed space, either from the Rec Center or the Island School. Kids’ Place urgently needs its own space, to be located in a separate building near to the School and the Rec. Planning has been going on

since June. The Steering Committee members are Kelley Rich, Vicki Todd, Paige Boisvert, Leila Bis-harat and Dave Hinchman. Fund Raising chair is Eldon Mayer and Building Committee chair is Bob Earnest.

The new Kids' Place will be designed to meet our specific needs as well as meet all the code re-quirements for a day care facility. There will be ap-propriate space for activities, play areas, child-friendly bathrooms, storage and a separate, quiet napping room for infants and toddlers.

A capital campaign is being planned, and will swing into action soon.

ToCI – FireFighter Footnotes This summer there have been several fire calls where the fire engines literally had trouble get-ting to the call. If you are having a party or meeting at your house, please have your com-pany PARK ON ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD

ONLY. Also, ask them to pull off the road as much as they can. This will allow the fire trucks to pass them and get to the call in a timely manner.

Thanks for your help!

All “open burning” fires require a permit. The permit is FREE. “Open burning” means any type of combustible material ie brush, wood, leaves, etc, that is out of doors in the open. Fires must be at-tended at ALL TIMES. State law determines if the wind speed is appropriate for burning permits. To get a burning permit call: Dianne Calder at 846-4176 any time Tom Calder at 846- 8758 any time The Town Office at 846-3148 during business hours.

You do NOT need a permit to cook on your outdoor grill or outdoor fireplace.
