GPC “Open” Chess Tournament GPC students Tulsi Bhandari and Jose Hernandez competed in a campus wide chess tournament on Wednesday, January 31st at the Clarkston campus. They played 3 rounds against 10 parcipants. Tulsi Bhandari won 1st place & Jose won a round. Congratulaons Tulsi and Jose! Hernandez Bhandari Chess Training Schedule Nick’s Barber Shop Chess – Saturday 10:am–12:am Greenforest Chrisan Academy Chess- Wednesday 3:30pm–5:30pm Harvestlodge Home Chess – Wednesday 6:pm–8:pm Georgia Perimeter College – Tuesday 4:pm–6:pm Decatur Checkmate Academy Chess Headquarters - TBA Chess spells STRATEGY S – Safe Environment: Chess provides a safe environment to pracce decision making, problem solving skills. T – Thinking Skills: Chess teaches efficient methods in thinking by managing impulsivity and acng with forethought. R – Rules: Chess teaches respect for rules of behavior. A – ‘Adaptability’: Chess gives opportunies to demonstrate competence. This builds confidence in ability to correct mistakes and improve performance. T – Taking Risks: Chess gives occasions to risk and the consequences of choices. Chess provides opportunies for courageous decision making. E – Everyday Applicaons: Chess applies habits of many everyday acvies such as planning ahead, decision-making, seng priories, and dealing with people with different goals. G – Gracefulness: Chess teaches sportsmanship. Chess gives opportunity for winning and losing gracefully. Y – Yardsck: Chess enables children to experience the gap between what they think they know and what really is accurate. Chess acts as a yardsck to measure this self-discovery. In this way, Chess spells STRATEGY and teaches students how to think. BECOME a Stakeholder support a student (s) in the Checkmate Academy!
