Book Your Holiday Gathering Now
3 PCA P IPEL INE NEWS, OCTOBER 2020
It may not be a big party this year, but you can still recognize your hard-working team this holiday season for a job well-done. Consider an intimate dinner for the stars in your network, close family members, or with good friends in your social bubble to celebrate the season.
Our staff can help you plan your event from start to finish while adhering to current health protocols to keep you and your guests comfortable and safe. Dates are already booking up from Thanksgiving through the New Year, so contact us today at [email protected] to plan your evening.
Dear Members,
It appears I often start my message with a comment about the weather and this one will be no different. At the time of this writing, as I look out my window, the yellow-orange birch leaves brighten the horizon and one can watch as the leaves tumble to the ground to cover the landscape. The view reminds me of one of my favorite Van Morrison songs, “When the leaves come falling down.” The fall season is now definitely here, and soon, by the end of October we will be in full blown winter. We usually receive our first snowfall in mid-October and at least Covid-19 can’t have any effect on that event.
We were able to raise $58K for the Club with the online auction in September of the many fine wines which were on the PCA’s Captains List. There were 491 lots of wine and 364 bidders. This definitely helps fill a financial gap which we have endured from the Covid-19 impact and all the restrictive mandates, but it is still rough sailing. Many thanks to Dan Newman of Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals. The Little Red Dress event on September 23rd with Paula Bradison was a great success
and all the ladies safely in attendance enjoyed their evening. Thank you, Paula.
Upcoming events include luxury cellar tastings for wine locker members of Domaine Serene on October 1st and Alaska Fine Wines on October 28th. The Ron Allen Memorial Sporting Clays Shoot is on Saturday October 17th at Birchwood Shooting Park in Chugiak and the annual meeting and board election will be on October 21st.
The annual meeting this year on Wednesday October 21st will be a combination of in-house and online venues to accommodate the rules for social distancing. Seating will be very limited to accommodate the current mandates. Eric Imig of Imig Audio/Video will be providing a Zoom meeting of the event for those that cannot attend in person. Members will have to register for the Video Teleconference (VTC) at least several days prior to the meeting and provide their email addresses. Those members that do register will receive a code on the day of the event to attend. The VTC will start at 7:00 p.m. when the annual
meeting commences. Stay tuned to the regular communications from Tracy in Marketing as we get the details on how to register for the VTC. You should soon be receiving your Ballot in the mail to vote for this year’s Board of Directors.
Covid-19 is still with us as a health hazard and restrictive nuisance. The required directives are still in effect with regard to what we can do at the Club, but Sheri and the Staff are managing it with the utmost care and attention. Information will be supplied to members via email and Facebook with any updated changes. Also remember that take-out and curbside service are always available to enjoy the fine cuisine of Chef John.
Please “Vote No on 1” this November. This ballot measure is a bad deal for the future of Alaska. It’s merciless to the Oil Industry and threatens our economy. For more information go to www.OneAlaska.com.
All the best,
- Tom Redmond, President

PCA P IPEL INE NEWS, OCTOBER 2020
● We still want human connections. Working from home, like many of us are now doing, can be isolating (even if you have a spouse or kids at home too). Reaching out to someone with a quick email, phone call, or even a Facetime, offers a social break from the monotony of Zoom meetings.
● Don’t fret about small talk. We’re all living through this pandemic, so a common link is how we’re handling work. Ask questions or share the challenges of conducting business from a distance like how to effectively cement a deal, holding productive meetings with your team, or collaborating on a new project. You might learn something new or offer an idea that someone had not considered before.
NETWORKING ● Get to “Like” social media. This is not about posting
a picture of what you ate for lunch today, but rather using social media to promote yourself. Update your profile with new achievements, a fresh headshot, or career changes. If you’re a business owner, consider updating your logo, offering a promotion, or increasing your advertising reach.
● Explore online classes or virtual meetups in your industry. Whether you are looking to improve your existing career or thinking about taking an entirely new path, working from home has granted a lot of us extra time. Make the most of it by learning new skills, offering your expertise to others, or checking out new prospects.
● Look to the PCA. You may have become a Member to increase your networking opportunities which notably look different right now, but they do still exist. Turn to our Member Directory on the PCA website. Each PCA member is listed there with contact information. We encourage you to reach out to a fellow member this month to say hello and share the common bond of your PCA Membership. Remember, this is temporary, and we’ll all get through it together – even if we’re not physically in the same space.

8PCA P IPEL INE NEWS, OCTOBER 2020
In a normal October, the PCA would be hosting Thursday Night Sponsor Networking Events. But as we know, these are not normal times. So, what can you do to build your network even while working from home? Plenty.
Warm Up this Fall with Premium Scotch
Distilled and matured in Scotland, Scotch is a whisky made mostly of malted barley. It delivers a trademark bite that some say tastes like fire or leather, but in a good way! It’s an acquired taste for sure so start sipping with some of the best Scotch in the world available at the Club this month while supplies last.
Flights include Scotch from Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, and Macallan; prices vary. Enjoy alone or with food suggestions from our menus.
You may not be traveling to Scotland this year, but you can at least get a taste of it with premium flights of Scotch this October at the PCA.

October 21 at 7:00 p.m.Members will receive their ballots soon. If you don’t get a ballot by mid-October, please email the Club at [email protected] or call us during business hours at 563-5090 and we will send one to you. Please complete your ballot and return it to the Club by October 21.
Due to our limited seating capacity with Covid-19 mandates, there will be a Zoom option for those who wish to participate virtually. To get the Zoom meeting number, please email our General Manager, Sheri Underwood at [email protected] no later than October 18. Those who register with Sheri will receive the Zoom invite by the early morning of October 21. Thank you to PCA Member Eric Imig of Imig Audio/Video for helping to set this up for the Club.
You will also need to email or call Sheri at the Club if you’d like to attend the in-person meeting, however, space is limited.
The dining room will be restricted to both current and nominated board members, vote counters, Eric Imig, and the Club’s CPA Chris Lallish. All other members wishing to attend in person will be seated in the lounge. Again, seating is limited and will be available on a first come first served basis to members only (no guests) and is limited exclusively to those who plan to participate in the meeting. Those permitted to attend the in-person meeting will get a confirmation email from Sheri. The Club will provide a plated dinner (alcohol not included) for those attending in-person. The regular dinner menu will not be available.
An unusual Annual Meeting for sure, but we are grateful to offer a virtual option and look forward to your participation in this yearly discussion about the past, present, and future of your Club.
Networking at the Club is a great way to extend your professional reach and expand your network. But during a pandemic, making new contacts can be challenging. Consider a distanced approach to networking by advertising your business in the PCA Pipeline.
The Club’s newsletter reaches more than 700 Members, their families, and colleagues and is posted on both the private and public PCA websites.
For as low as $150 (no annual commitment) you can run an ad in the newsletter promoting your business, personal message, or even an event that’s open to the whole membership.

clubs we have in that state, along with their websites and specific location. To visit, please contact Tracy
Dumas at [email protected] for your letter of introduction at least 7 days prior to travel.

The River Club
The Governors Club The Tampa Club
Fischer Island Club
The chill in the air reminds us that colder days are coming, which is the time many of us like to head to warmer climates for vacation. The COVID pandemic has brought changes to several of our reciprocal clubs, including the closure of the popular Plaza Club in Honolulu. Our other Hawaiian reciprocal club, The Pacific Club, just recently re-opened its doors with limited capacity and at this time, is only allowing local members to use the club, not reciprocal members. The Pacific Club’s staff anticipates that could change sometime after the New Year and will keep us updated on its status.
If you’re willing to venture across the country, our reciprocal clubs in Florida are open and ready for guests. Choices include Epping Forest Yacht Club and The River Club, both in Jacksonville, Fischer Island Club in Fischer Island (near Miami), The Governors Club in Tallahassee, and The Tampa Club in Tampa.
Each club is operating under current state health mandates and encourage guests to check their website before traveling. You can find a link to the websites of more than 100 of the PCA’s reciprocal clubs on our website, www.petroclub.net. Go to the Our Club tab and click on Reciprocal Clubs. There, you’ll find a state by state listing along with contact information. Reciprocal club visits require a letter of introduction from the PCA. You can obtain your letter by contacting Tracy Dumas at [email protected] at least 7 days prior to travel. Travel may look different these days, but many of our reciprocal clubs are ready to welcome you when you are ready to travel.
Headed South this Fall? You’ll find a home at some of our reciprocal clubs.
Aim High for a Fall ClassicFellow PCA Members, we want to highlight the Annual Ronnie Allen Memorial Shoot coming up on Saturday October 17, 2020. The Sporting Clays Shoot is held at Birchwood Recreational and Shooting Park in Chugiak, Alaska. Registration will begin at 9:30 AM and shooting stars at 10:30 AM.
For Members that might not have participated before or that do not have a squad, we are encouraging you to sign up as a single and we can place you on a team or build teams the day of the event. This is a fantastic event to network and meet other folks in the industry. We have plenty of experienced shooters to assist in getting less experienced shooters squared away.
Items that you will want to bring are eye and ear protection, a backpack or carry bag that can carry 5 boxes of shot shells and a shotgun. Shot shells are not included in the pricing for the shoot but are available the day of the event at Birchwood. Should you need to rent a shotgun, they are available for rent for $10 at Birchwood. Please contact Birchwood in advance of the event at (907) 688-2809 to reserve.
Dress in layers, we have had sunny, rainy and snowy events, so be prepared. Coffee and doughnuts are provided, as is a PCA-catered lunch following the event. The fees are charged to the PCA member’s account on your monthly bill and if you bring a guest or sponsor a team, we can apply charges to your account.
The Shoot is named in memory of our friend and past long-time member and PCA Director, Ronnie Allen who passed away August 31, 2011. For those of you that did not have the pleasure of meeting Ronnie, he was an avid shooter, fisherman and scuba diver. There was never a dull moment when Ronnie was around. He was also a star softball player the year the PCA D League Coed Softball team took first place in State Competition in 1994.
If you have questions regarding the shoot, please contact Tom Hendrix (907) 632-2436 or [email protected] . We hope that you will join us for a fun day to honor Ronnie’s memory.
