First Speaker

Fossil fuels are running out, we have to look for alternatives

Motor sports can lead the way to alternatives. Motor sports is a media window to the public.

This should be showing people the way forward.

Second Speaker

Motor sports has a large investment of money, this can be used to try out and promote alternative forms of energy for vehicles.

The large investment could allow alternative energy sources to be experimented with.

There are a large number of technical people involved with motor sport that can help.

Misc Ideas If Motorsport went to alternative power supplies

it would create an increased pace of clean and sustainable engine development that would feed down to standard production cars etc. This would benefit all.

Fuel derived from oil is not sustainable as its a finite resource.

The usual environmental arguments Developments could reduce oil dependance

and reduce the worlds problems wars ect. created by oil production and exploration.

Misc Ideas The amount of fuel consumed by a formula one car

(preferably energy, in joules, as this can be converted between fuels) to travel 100 miles (or something similar).

The equivalent amount of fuel needed to move Rotary Racer this distance.

The amount of energy available through solar power (could we charge the batteries with Terry's roof alone? :P )

The volume (sound level) of a formula one car The volume of Rotary racer. The volume (amount) of fossil fuels needed to charge

the car batteries.

Against Items

The sound of fossil fuel engines make the events exciting

There are non fossil fuels that can be used, such as BIO diesel or gas based on hydrogen. These can be used in internal combustion engines and thus create the same sounds as fossil fuels.
