Our School Vision
“Cheltenham East students are empowered learners who are flexible thinkers with the skills and knowledge to respond critically to their world.”
Early Finish Friday April 4th
A reminder to all parents that next Friday is an early
finish for all children. A special assembly will be held at 2.15 pm with a 2.30 pm dismissal from the outside stage area. Please make sure you make arrangements for the children to be picked up on time. The first day back at school is on Tuesday 23rd April (after Easter Monday).
Armistice Project
A huge thank you to Dads Army who came into the school last Sunday and dug a new pathway for our
ceramic tiles produced by the children, dug the foundations for the stage area and put in four new seats and three new flag poles for our armistice ceremonies. This area will look fantastic once a new garden has been established and it will be a great place to come and reflect on our history.
National Ride2School Day
It was great to see so many students and families riding, scooting, skating or walking to school. Like all our walk or ride to school days, it is a wonderful opportunity to promote the many benefits of active transport for our community. Well done everyone for making the effort – even if it wasn’t the best weather.
Year 4 Camp
The Year 4 children had a great time at the Lady Northcote Camp this week attempting a variety of

activities including the high rope swing, canoeing, archery, yabbying and much more. Thank you to the following staff for giving up their time to take the children on camp: Mrs Apostolopoulos, Mrs Beaton, Mr Crebbin, Miss Boucher, Miss Pang, Mr Muldridge, Miss Bickham and Mr Bach. It was great to see so many of the children step outside their comfort zone and attempt activities that were extremely challenging and demanding for them.
NAPLAN Practice
Our Year 3 and 5 students have completed a NAPLAN practice test on Thursday as part of the preparation for the on line testing coming up in May. The computer system seemed to cope well with the technology load. All testing this year will be conducted on computers except the Year 3 writing test, which will be completed on paper.
Achievements
We have had many fantastic achievements at Cheltenham East PS this term including:
Presentation of the Annual Report
School Council Elections
House Swimming Sports
District Swimming Sports
Year 4 Camp
School Disco
CHATS information session
Special Food Day
Tim Richardson and Meng Tak Visit
State members Tim Richardson (Mordialloc) and Meng Tak (Clarinda) will visit next Thursday to chat about school improvements.
School Values
The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
Group Tours
Wednesday saw a number of prospective parents come to the school and go on a group tour of the school with Mr Bourke. They looked at the types of programs we run and observed the children working in their classrooms to get a feel for the school and its culture. It is a big decision on where to send your children for their first year of schooling and this is the first step in the process for parents with young
children heading into Foundation in 2020. We hope they enjoyed the experience.
Contact Details
Have your contact details changed? We have already tried to phone parents and emergency contacts only to find that the phone number is no longer valid. It is absolutely vital that we can contact parents/carers at all times. Please let us know if any details have changed as soon as possible.

CEPS KIDS ARE FRIENDLY KIDS
This term we are working on
COURTESY
and next week we are looking at
Punctuality
There are many important social skills we need to think about in the CEPS Kids
are Friendly Kids program, but perhaps there are none more relevant than punctuality. Being punctual simply means being on time. And unfortunately there are too many times
when we are not as punctual as necessary. Being on time is important.
At school it is important to be on time, ready and organised to begin learning whether it is at the beginning of the day or after lunch and recess. Being on time shows that you are courteous and aware of the needs of those around you by not making them wait for you to
arrive.
Children who are late for school or late for classes during school often miss important information and this can leave them feeling left out for the whole of the lesson, as well as disrupting classmates and teachers. If you are late for class it is hard to settle down
and concentrate.
It is everyone’s responsibility to be on time – mums, dads, kids and teachers. So make a special effort next week and throughout the year.

Such information will also be collected when required to fulfil a legal obligation, including duty of care, anti-discrimination law and occupational health and safety law.
