Maryland Science Content Standards

• Students will gather and organize data to defend or argue the proposition that all living things are cellular (composed of cells) and that cells carry out the basic life functions.

Objective

• Students will examine the chemical content of cells in order to communicate their importance during cellular processes.

Assignment

• Go to CyberEd on your computer • Open Cells: Chemistry of Living Cells• Go through the lesson, answering questions in

the outline as you go.– Click here for a copy of the outline

• All answers will be found in the lesson

Follow Up

• Answer these questions in your notebook when you are finished– The inorganic compound salt regulates the amount of

water in a cell. Read pages 32-35 in the Cells and Heredity book to explain how this happens.

– Lipids and carbohydrates were important for energy formation. They are also important organic compounds for cell structure. Explain using information found in the lesson. (Page 27 in Cells and Heredity will help as well)

• Both questions will be graded for accuracy.
